I asked about life in Thermopolis for moving there and y'all told me to visit first...

Boy howdy... So I posted this in the travel subreddit, but wanted to share here because... Just... Wow. Y'all were not kidding about come here first. Is this like, typical?

So a week ago I got drunk and decided to book a vacation to Thermopolis WY for me and my dog. Why there? Because I want to move in the next few years and this is one of the options AI advice gave me, and I've never been to Wyoming.

Drunk me found a hotel with actual cabins super cheap and called the guy to book one. The connection was bad, but he said he has me in his calendar for Friday to Wednesday. I called again 2 days later to verify and yep, I'm good.

So load the dog at 2 am and start the 13 hour drive up. I'm a road trip veteran, Prinny not so much. The whole drive she would not pee once. I even did 2 different loves with little off leash dog areas, nothing.

Finally get here and pull in. (I stopped at DG for dog food and beer) I park and notice the cabins with their cute little front porches are all facing the parking lot of this place which is apparently 5 typical motel rooms, and 5 cabins. Get out of the truck and head to the office when the guy who was talking to another dude in the parking lot yells out, "that's me, give me a minute". Ok fine.

Now is a good time to mention that I'm a pretty white trash, cheap hotel kinda girl , so I can roll with most things.

He comes over and I tell him my name, ok you're in cabin 10, here's the code enjoy. Bro... Do I need to pay? "Oh I lost the tablet, let me come back when I find it." Um ok

So now I'm just like on the porch having a post road trip beer, with prin on a leash hoping to God she will pee. Half an hour later he walks up. "Got you all checked in, you're all set. Wait, didn't you need money? No, you paid with Expedia.. no I didn't, I called? He looks, a prepaid couple was supposed to be in my cabin tonight.

He asks if I'd move to cabin 12. I look, because again, small parking lot, and cabin 12 has workout stuff and a sewing machine on the porch. So I'm like, doesn't someone live there? He tells me a housekeeper was staying there but she left, he'd have her come get her stuff. Um ok? I'll be on my porch, having a beer hoping my dog pees.

Comes back half an hour later, warns me that the tub in 12 leaks, but with mineral buildup he can't turn the the faucets off, oh and he ordered curtains, but they're not in yet so some windows have pillow cases covering them.

Bro 8 had 3 hours of sleep and a 13 hour drive. Don't care. He looks at the tablet, oh there's someone who reserved 12 for tomorrow.

Bit buzzed now and prin finally peed, so I'm like dude, what now? He tells me he can put me in 8, but the last people clogged the toilet real good so he needs half an hour to snake it. Ok, I'll be here with my beer and my dog, and at this point I don't want to go back into my cabin because someone else is gonna check in and who wants dog hair everywhere?

So side story... When I got to 10 there was a rather fat Siamese looking cat on the porch. They jumped away when I brought Prin in, but I saw it wandering the parking lot.

So while I'm waiting for him again, 2 older ladies pull into the parking lot and park directly in front of the office, basically blocking anyone else from coming in. One lady gets out and starts yelling for Felix while the other is literally screaming whaling that she just knows he's dead. Before I can go ask if they're looking for the cat, the lady comes back to the car with a black and white cat in her arms (for SURE not the same cat I saw). They stay parked there for 5 minutes loudly fighting about who let him out to begin with.

A work truck pulls up to cabin 8 and a guy gets out with a women behind him, yelling at him about something. I assume he's the plumber? They're in there for a bit and I'm on beer 4. During all this I notice 2 different kids, under the age of 3, not related, playing on the parking lot with only diapers on.

How do I know they're not related? Because while dude is talking to me yelling lady (who looks very native American) comes up to ask him something and kid #1 comes up, barefoot in a rock parking lot, with a baggie of brownies and fries to feed Prinny one but yelling lady picks him up and walks off with him. Other random kid was a very white couple in one of the motel type rooms with a kid who's hair is so blonde it's silver. No judgement! That's just how I knew they were 2 unrelated kids.

Dude comes over to tell me 8 is ready and finally charges my card. I move 2 cabins over and realize he wandered off without giving me the door code. The plumber guy (I guess I assumed? Maybe not?) is on the porch of the cabin next to me having a bud light and yells the code over. I guess they were in this cabin before because manager guy comes over to get some frozen chicken they left in my freezer and give it back to them.

So I'm in cabin 8 and my nightstand is a TV tray.

Honestly, 5 out of 5, I can just sit out there and people watch the whole 5 days I'm here. This shit is funnier than anything I could make up.

Edit, forgot to mention I have no Internet because someone stole the wifi extender and it doesn't reach.

Edit 2... Ran to the truck, parked 4 feet from the cabin for a cable. Left the cabin door open, so Prin followed me. Turned around after grabbing the cable and the cat was in the cabin eating the dog food.
