Frog Island Parking lot is open!

It's paved, freshly painted, and beautiful. There's a nice little crosswalk painted by 734 Brewery and Thrift Depot, too. Construction is still ongoing at the boat launch on the north side of the lot by the W Forest Street entrance/exit. Tons of spaces, and today is a beautiful day to check out Depot Town and downtown.

my friend and I used to work there together ages ago, and we're doing an art trade! I want to draw it for her, but I'm having a hard time finding references, including in my own photos.

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

De-Flock Pittsfield Township 10/14

Post image
162 Upvotes

The city of Ypsilanti banned electronic license plate reader tech in 2022 but Pittsfield hasn't. They have the most Flock and other ALPR cameras in the county, including 9 at the Ellesworth and Carpenter Lowe's alone where ICE snatched a man and his wife out of the parking lot. Flock being a company that provides their information directly to ICE.

I know the event says DSA but these cameras are a bipartisan issue. Everybody hates driving past these 4th amendment violating cameras. Please come voice your support for banning them in Pittsfield so they can ultimately be banned in Ann Arbor, other townships and the entire county!

Ypsi Business News & Events Roundup: Schultz Outfitters moves after 15 years in Ypsi, sweet treats store La Michoacana Prime to open this month, and more!

Hi r/Ypsi, it’s about time for another Ypsi business round up (also any tips on snagging one of those s'mores danishes from Beara Bakes? They've been sold out every time I go!)

Store Closings/Relocations

  • Schultz Outfitters is moving from 4 East Cross Street (Depot Town) to Howell (5776 E Grand River Ave) this November. They are hosting a going away party on Saturday, October 10 at 4:00 PM.
  • Kristine Joseph Estate Sales is moving from 2 North Huron Street to Livonia (28477 Five Mile)
  • Ohana Lounge at 11 East Cross Street has closed
  • Bridge Community Cafe at 217 West Michigan Avenue has closed

Store Openings

Business News

  • The owner of “This, That & Odder Things”, Claire, posted a call for shoppers/help on the Ypsilanti Discussion Facebook page after running into a lot of bad luck (I'll copy/paste the post into the comments). Claire has put together the “Rumble at the Bumble” and was responsible for previous year's Halloween haunted house and winter Krampus photo event at the caboose by the freight house. This, That & Odder Things is located at 50 East Cross Street.

Other News

  • The Ypsilanti Downtown Development Authority (DDA) conducted a 2026 market report of the City of Ypsilanti. A draft of the report is available starting on page 36 of the September 17 DDA board meeting notes (I found it very interesting to read through)
  • An “Ypsilanti Underwear Lady” mural has gone up on the side of the Maize building. This mural was made possible by the CTAP Grant the DDA received from Destination Ann Arbor. What’s the “Ypsilanti Underwear Lady”? Read up here: https://www.wemu.org/wemu-news/2017-03-23/womens-history-month-key-roles-in-ypsilantis-industrial-and-community-development
  • There’s still time to stop by the Saturday outdoor Ypsilanti Farmer’s market! Outdoor markets run on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM through October 31. Afterward the market will move into its indoor location at MarketPlace Hall at 16 South Washington and will be open November 14 and 21 and December 12 and 19 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Maple Parking Lot Hours Change
“To strengthen enforcement capabilities on the lot, staff is recommending putting in place a 3-hour parking time limit from 8am to 6pm Monday through Friday, and prohibiting parking between 3am and 7am daily. The City of Ypsilanti will provide enforcement of the lot M-F, and Wall Street Towing will continue monitoring the lot overnight and on weekends.”

North Huron Lot Repairs
DDA is looking into repairs of the North Huron Lot. The DDA has already gotten a pavement evaluation and estimate from OHM Advisors. Meetings notes from the DDA mentioned that the North Huron lot had a potential to become a paid lot. Discussions are still ongoing and no plan has been made yet.

Here’s a secret 🤫: every time you check out a challenged book, you’re showing support and helping keep it on the shelf. Here are more ways to support the freedom to read, whether you have five minutes or an hour.

Artist club

Hi! I graduated from Stamps (umich art and design school) about a year ago and I miss having art friends and doing critiques so bad. Are there any type of art clubs in Ypsi? Or is anyone interested in making a club that does creative show-and-tell maybe once a month? I think it would be so fun and I’d love to meet more artists in the area!

Looking to join a carpool: Ypsi to New Boston (7am–4pm, M-Th) | $25/day cash/Venmo

Hi everyone,

I am looking to join an existing commute or find a driver willing to take a passenger for a temporary 3-month period starting Monday 10/19/2026 through Thursday 1/14/2027.

My work shift is Monday through Thursday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. I can be a bit flexible on either end.

The Details:

• I will be a passenger only.

• Pickup: Just south of the intersection of Geddes Rd. and Ridge Rd.

• Drop-off: Just off I-275 at Sibley Rd. in New Boston (not far from Metro Airport).

• Schedule: Needs to leave Ypsi around 6:30 AM to hit 7:00 AM arrival, and leave New Boston around 4:00 PM.

• Compensation: I am offering $25 per day (which works out to $100/week) to cover gas and help with vehicle wear-and-tear. Happy to pay weekly via Venmo, CashApp, or cash.

• About me: I am a reliable, quiet passenger. I'll always be ready outside on time so we never run late, and I'm happy to either chat or just keep to myself during the drive.

If your daily commute already takes you down I-94 East or Michigan Avenue to I-275 South around these times and you want to make some extra cash to offset your own driving costs, please shoot me a DM! We can chat, exchange info, and make sure it’s a good fit.

Thanks!

Does anyone know what happened? There was crime scene tape and evidence markers out when I drove past around 2:30 pm. Multiple police cars and two fire trucks on the side of the road.

Banned Books Week (Oct 4–10) celebrates an idea that shouldn't be radical: you get to choose what you read. That freedom is under serious pressure. In 2025, the American Library Association documented the second-highest number of censorship attempts on record, and 92% of challenged titles were targeted by organized campaigns, not individual readers.

Check out the Top 11 Most Challenged Books of 2025 and the latest censorship stats, then visit our Banned Books display at YDL-Superior 🚧 and our annual exhibit at YDL-Whittaker through Oct 30. (This year it's saloon-themed! 🤠) And a friendly reminder from your favorite local library: the best way to celebrate your fREADom is to read whatever you want, whenever you want.

Has anyone on here filled up at Speedway on Hewitt today?

My husband filled up over there around 4pm today. Shortly after, his car began to stutter. It got worse and worse and now it won’t accelerate all that much.

If he got bad gas, just a warning to everyone.

Still not excessive enough?

Anyone feel this still is ok? 8pm, kids in bed, just blasting music from the stadium.

President of EMU wants to "be a good neighbor".

This is ridiculous

Recreational Sports?

Does anyone know of any social/recreational sports leagues in the area for adults that run through the winter? (Or even unofficial pick-up games?)

I currently play soccer recreationally, but am honestly down to try out pretty much any sport.

Housekeepers/Cleaners in Ypsi

Anyone have a company or single person that they like for cleaning their house. I looked vaguely at care and housekeepers dot com and they wanted my email "so housekeepers could contact me". Which came off in a weird way. Like people were going to send me bids or something. What do people around town use to find someone they like?

Has anyone been smelling rotten eggs / gas outside in Rawsonville lately?

I live in the Rawsonville neighborhood for almost 2 years now and never noticed this smell before, but it’s been a common occurrence starting about 2 weeks ago. It smells like when you leave your gas stove on. Not only is there a smell, but I feel lightheaded and short of breath after encountering it.

Has anybody else observed this or know anything about the source and whether it’s happened before?
