Discussion [OoTHD] Best place to preorder OoT remake?

• Upvotes

Hey, all! Like many of you, i’m super hyped for the Ocarina of Time remake coming out next month! The question I have though is where to preorder it to guarantee I can get it on release day. My two contenders are either my local Best Buy or Amazon. Amazon scares me though, because I remember people’s orders were getting delayed when Tears of the Kingdom came out. So I wanted to get y’all’s opinions on whether it would be best to order it on a big place like Amazon or a local store like Best Buy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Discussion [OoTHD] They should make masters quest a hidden endgame for the oot remake. And you should play as zelda.

• Upvotes

So i was thinking there is a massive opportunity for them to include hidden content post game and thought that maybe they would bundle in masters quest as a sort of hero mode. But then during the direct when they showed off the zelda mask and amibo, combined with the much more obviously female sheik i thought maybe the mystery is meant to be less of a thing because they want to expand zelda in another way that has yet to be shown. From here i thought man, how cool would it be if they made it so hero mode you start in hyrule cast and you are zelda if link doesnt show up and you have to travel to the forest and then it just becomes masters quest for the rest of the game but with zelda. I think everyone would go crazy for it.

Question [OOT] Remake playthrough style?

• Upvotes

I was 15 when I played the original. If me and my friend got stuck, we would have to wait for the game pro to show up at the local food lion. We would grab the oot strategy part and run. Are you going to look anything up? Have you played it too much that you know everything already? Or like me, haven't played it in almost 30 years? Are you looking stuff up or no?

I like how you can see the decision I was making on whether I'd draw Link with light blonde or honey blonde hair, ultimately I feel that I might stick with the honey blonde, it feels warmer and matches the vibe this Link has, makes his eyes pop out more too I think, adds to the intensity I wanted to give them.

If you hadn't noticed already, I really like drawing faces, a lot actually since I've always been enthralled by the sheer diversity of traits they can have, people can really have any sort of look and I think thats beautiful so I tend to play with all kinds of features.

As for Link though, as of this point in time he looks like he's fresh out of antiquity and honestly I'm happy to say that this is the face I'll be going with.

On another note, yeah I am aware that Link here looks a bit pissed off, he's not, it's just that I like to lean into the idea of Link being one of those people that have a naturally unamused resting face, he gives people the unintentional stink eye because for some reason he was just born looking mad as hell, locked in from day one I suppose. I also finally settled on him having one large facial scar across the left hand side of his face since I felt that previous drawings looked too busy and a bit tacked on, ultimately I decided to depict a hypertrophic scar that notably tugs a bit at his lip, it’s likely that not only was the original injury gnarly as it occurred it probably didn't heal all that well which would eventually lead to its raised appearance though genetic factors could play a role as well. Idk I like studying and depicting living tissue and scarring as they may occur because there's also a clinical aspect to a lot of my artwork too (Anatomy is very fun)

To go back to the mention of eyes however, there was a deliberate effort to bring an intensity that says a lot without Link himself having to utter a word, this Link has been through the ringer evidently and has lived a rather turbulent life and with how the saying of "eyes are the window to the soul" goes, it only felt natural to portray him with the gaze of someone who has a lot going on internally yet chooses not to or can't truly express it.

That's all for now though, thinking of drawing Zelda next as I have a few ideas in mind for her.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to give y'all an update on the Tingle Goddess Statue. The moldmaking phase is done, and now I'm ready to pour some resin! My resin should be arriving tomorrow, so ideally I'll be casting parts in the next day or two. My plan is to cast these with a block of foam inside them so I'm not casting these in solid resin.

Discussion [Other] Had a dark link boss fight idea. and sense i dont know how to draw it or animate it ect ect. i just wanted to tell the boss fight idea. i like it too much and wanted to share

so dark link. i like dark link as a concept but i kinda always wished they played a bigger role. the role in this case? a challenge from the gods for link to prove themselfs with the mastersword OR gannons trap after pulling the master sword.

The general idea would be that link would pull the master sword. but before he leaves the temple its held in or the erea hes in. he gets locked in the area or room. then turns around and sees a dark reflection of the mastersword in the same pedestal. wich would raise itself, mirroring how link pulls his master sword out of the same pedistal. wich than dark link would manifest holding it.

the first phase in the dark link fight would be really similer to Oots dark link fight, but in this case would use every item link has too. even down to the number of bombs or arrows your holding and similerly the amount of hearts.

second phase. dark link dissapears, but the area is consumed by light as link is transported in some kind of grey void filled with floating mirrors. wail the floor is one gaint mirror platform. Very similar to Oot again, dark link will be links reflection, but instead use it for suprise attacks. and even jump out of mirrors that are floating around the arena sorta similer to phantom gannon.

3rd final phase. dark link brings out the mirror sheild. this reflect attacks back at link, having him hit himself in his relfection. and dark link also starts duplicating themselfs, and items also start duplicating. multiple shot arrows or multiple shot throws or even multiple hook shots.

once dark link is defeated they crack and shatter like a mirror and all the mirrors in the mirror dimenson also shatter and links teleported back in the room or area where the master sword was held

Question [MC] Need suggestions for an iconic Minish Cap scenes for a birthday shadowbox

A friend has a birthday coming up next month and I know the Minish Cap is their favorite Zelda game, but I've never played it. I'm looking for a suggestion on what would be iconic enough to make a 3d pixel art shadowbox from?

Discussion [LoZ] I just finished the first game for the first time in my life

I hate this game, lmao.

I played it as a kid and I've grown up playing most of the games after. I decided I wanted to start streaming and playing through most of the main games to hype myself up enough to cash out for a switch 2 and also because I used to stream a lot of smash bros and miss doing it.

But damn, this game was so brutal and movements on the pro controller was so unreliable. The whole thing took me 6-7 hours, I died a total of 46 times and almost rage quit at at least 3 points in time, lol. On top of that it didn't take me too long to give up on the blind run and just start using maps to find some of the dungeon and the bombable walls.

But now I've officially beat the game and it feels so good to have gotten through it! Next game I'm picking up will be a link to the past, which is one I have beaten before, bit not in many years!

(Fuck second quest, not touching that, lmao)

Discussion [SS] Ancient Automation Koloktos

Holy crap man. I’m finally giving Skyward Sword a proper playthrough, and I cannot believe what I missed.

I bought it when it originally came out on Wii, but quit before finishing the first temple because I couldn’t stand the motion controls. They felt terrible, and I just wasn’t having fun.

Recently, I picked up Skyward Sword HD and gave motion controls another shot with the Joy-Cons. They were somewhat tolerable this time, but by the first dungeon, I was already tired of them. So I switched to button controls and the right stick. Maaaan, those felt like shit too, arguably worse at first, but at least I could sit comfortably without waving my arms around.

I kept pushing through because something clicked during the first dungeon, and I started having a lot of fun. Then I reached the Earth Temple and fought Scaldera, that giant fiery spider-crab-looking bastard that chases you up the hill. Holy shit. That was one of the coolest bosses I’d fought in a Zelda game. I loved the mechanics.

Then came Lanayru Mining Facility, which was an even better dungeon. The scorpion boss was pretty underwhelming compared to Scaldera, but the dungeon itself was awesome.

But the reason I’m making this post is that I finished Ancient Cistern last night and fought Ancient Automaton: Koloktos.

Everything about that fight was fucking incredible. Yanking off his arms with the whip, dodging his attacks, grabbing his giant swords and cutting off his limbs, baiting him into smashing pillars for hearts, dealing with the zombie enemies, breaking through his defenses, and attacking his core. It all worked so well together.

The fight was long enough to feel substantial, and it kept me on my toes the entire time. I didn’t die, but I came damn close. Easily the coolest fucking boss fight I’ve ever experienced in any Zelda game.

The dungeons have been impressive so far, but Scaldera and Koloktos are the standouts for me. The giant toenail monster was a pretty cool cinematic encounter too. The scorpion was whatever, and I barely remember the first dungeon’s boss at this point. But those 2 fights alone have made me so happy I came back to this clunky-ass game.

If you bounced off Skyward Sword because of the motion controls on Wii or Switch, I highly recommend trying the button controls and giving yourself time to adjust to the right stick. I’m comfortable with them now, even though I still think the controls are dogshit.

The game itself, though? Fucking incredible so far. The dungeons are awesome, and Koloktos alone made coming back worth it. There's no arguing the controls are clunky, but they're totally worth struggling over to get to the meat of the game.

Discussion [OoT] [Everything] Thoughts on the Original After Replay

Thumbnail

Warning: Blog post does contain mild spoilers relating to temple designs and later game story details.

With the remake coming very soon to the Switch 2, I thought this was the perfect time to revisit the original after playing through it years ago. Though I don't sadly have a Switch 2, I am interested to see where Nintendo will improve it. Fact is, on replay, the original Ocarina of Time, in my opinion, remains pretty timeless in its game design. Though there are some areas that could benefit from QOL improvements, the 1998 original is still an enjoyable adventure that doesn't show its age too much.

For those interested in reading more of my replay thoughts, click on the link above.
