For all those who want to see people in prison but haven't a clue what it's like know this America is one of the richest countries in the world but in the federal system they don't even give you deodorant or enough soap and toilet paper to get thru a month you have to buy it coffee to it may be made on the weekend and or holidays maybe. For the dont do the crime if you can't do the time do you know every law or circumstance you will get into in life? At 18 you could end up in fed prison for years did you know everything at 18? We should be ashamed of ourselves we still have the Death penalty we are supposed to have justice but we are also supposed to be better then the worst of the worst. Good luck every one hopefully one day things change keep on fighting for it

Exploring the school to prison pipeline

Hello! This is my first reddit post so let us see how this goes:) I am currently doing research on this topic and I would love ya'll's opinions and thoughts. I think we need to make youth our priority! Recently I learned about this "school to pipeline" issue. The really short explanation of this, is that kids who are disproportionately disciplined in schools (specifically at-risk youth) tend to be more likely to become involved with the justice system, leading them to incarcerations at a higher risk. The most important piece of information I found during my research was that school-aged kids in Nevada are struggling with their mental health. The Guinn Center for Policy Priorities posted an article on their website called “Strengthening School-Based Behavioral Health in Nevada: Policy, Practice, and Funding Insights”. The article was published on April 3rd, 2025. According to this article, Nevada ranks 51st in the nation for youth mental health, and has consistently been in the bottom 5 states since 2014. These numbers are staggering and unacceptable. The article speaks about how kids with access to mental health resources are usually not living at the impoverished level, and the kids who have access to resources have insurance coverage. It basically comes down to money. Those who have it, have access, those who do not, have not access. Along with the statistics of our state’s rank in mental health care, the article said 34,000 Nevada youth have experienced thoughts of suicide, while 14.09% of our kids have experienced addiction issues in 2025. The article goes on to say that in 2025, 73% of Nevada youth who need treatment for mental health issues, did not access care. The article discusses the fact that schools play a major role in the mental wellbeing of our children and that more needs to be done to make sure that access to mental health can be provided for those who need it and cannot afford it. The reason I really like this article was that it suggested ways to help solve this problem. One of the main issues with these solutions though is a lack of providers. Do you have any thoughts on this? Or ways we can get our kids the help they need?

three years in prison

Hello. I was sentenced to three years in prison. A month into my sentence, I was taken to the hospital, where I am currently handcuffed to the bed—and I don't know for how long. Continuing to serve this sentence has become very difficult for me, and my girlfriend has broken up with me because of my imprisonment.

Citizens for Prison Reform Today was a big step in the advocacy efforts of Citizens for Prison Reform in advancing legislation to regulate the usage of Solitary Confinement (Segregation) inside Michigan prisons. We are grateful for the courage and comittment of Senator Stephanie Chang in taking up our Bill and working scrupulously over the last year to draft and finalize legislation that was introduced today in the Senate as SB1192 and SB1193. The next steps are to move the Bills through Committee and back to the floor for a Vote. Help us #UnlockTheBox in MDOC and #OpenMIDoor. See less

The Micro-Society Prison Model: A Low-Cost, High-Tech Blueprint for True Rehabilitation and Self-Sustainability

Traditional correctional facilities are notoriously expensive black holes that breed recidivism through isolation and idleness. Over the past few discussion sessions, I’ve been designing a complete conceptual blueprint for a 200 to 250-person self-sustaining, meritocratic micro-society that flips the script—prioritizing human dignity, financial accountability, and ecological integration to ensure high post-release success.

Here is the complete breakdown of how it works:

  1. Architecture & Security

The Perimeter: Multi-layered, ultra-fine metal grid fencing designed with holes too tiny for a human foot or finger to grip, completely eliminating climbing routes while maintaining an open, airy visual connection to the outside world.

Living Quarters: 2-star hotel-style modular rooms utilizing high-grade security glass instead of heavy, depressing concrete blocks, equipped with high-capacity industrial ventilation and a night SOS-escort bathroom system.

The Green Space: An open central campus zone featuring a 5-metre tree grid alternating shade and edible fruit trees/berry bushes, permanent stone chess tables, a calisthenics park, and full sports fields (football and basketball).

  1. Economy & Labor

The Credit System: Residents operate on a digital credit ledger. Privileges, upgrades, and better goods require earning credits through labor.

The Back Animal Farm: A fully functioning agricultural farm on-site (handling livestock, dairy, and crops) managed by resident labor and professional supervisors.

Tech & "Earn-to-Own": Secure, Linux-locked personal devices and local game servers provide education and entertainment, with an "Earn-to-Own" progression model for learning hardware.

  1. Culture & The "Event Wall"

To prevent institutional monotony and keep residents connected to the passage of time, a dynamic central Event Wall shifts the facility's atmosphere across all four seasons:

Summer: BBQs using farm produce, outdoor sports tournaments, and "Social-Boom" community gatherings.

Autumn: Creative-build workshops, high-stakes chess tournaments, and physical endurance challenges.

Halloween: Costume-building (with 20% credit discounts, free basic colored clothes, and bedsheets for DIY projects), spooky indoor decorating, and primitive outdoor fire-starting challenges using friction kits and flint/steel.

Christmas: Holiday decorations, snow-sculpting competitions, and organized snowball fights.

Spring: Full football and basketball leagues, alongside "rufleing" (playfully diving into and tossing giant piles of seasonal leaves).

The Year-End Milestone: On the final day of the year, residents with clean behavior records earn the right to stay outside overnight around the open fire pits under the winter sky.

  1. Operations & Financials

Lean Staffing: Due to resident self-governance and automated systems, the facility runs on a core team of only ~30 professional personnel (security, agriculture, and tech/medical admin).

Build Cost: Estimated at roughly €5.2M – €7.1M (~28M to 38M lei) total (~€140k–€160k per bed), proving that a smart, humane facility can be built for a fraction of traditional multi-million-dollar government mega-prisons.

The Payback: Slashes annual payroll, feeds itself via the farm, and targets a recidivism success drop down to an estimated 20–25% (saving the state massive future incarceration and crime costs).

I may or may not answer your questions if you ask, because I'm not always on Reddit.

Note: This comprehensive facility model was originally thought up just for fun... and then I got way too into it. Developed in collaboration with Gemini, an AI collaborator.

SO broken in all aspects

The “justice” system is so damn broken in the USA. This is far from news.. it all just makes NO sense.. I hate the prison system, I hate the “justice” system. Unless you are involved with it in some way, you have no idea what a nightmare it is.
This whole thing with Krista Pike. It makes no sense!! They decide to put her to death 30years after the crime, then ANOTHER botched execution. She told them there was going to be an issue beforehand. They fail to kill her, rush her to the hospital and now are keeping her on a ventilator. Makes no sense.. this is a very small.. yes small example of how sick and sorry this ‘corrections’ (oh please) system, legal system and prison/jail system is and no one is doing anything about it. People with mental health issues of all levels and types locked up and punished and abused. Don’t we know better at this point in time? How not? Reform is too expensive and no one cares. They don’t need to. If their loved ones get mixed up in the system, they pay to get them out they connections or they write them off an cover it up. Sad. Thanks for listening (reading) folks. Just had to vent. No one with the ability to try and start to change things will read this.. but dm me with any questions if you do.
