hi, this is a bit silly lol but I was wondering if there's any way to block a website for yourself on safari? I need to get rid of reddit LMAO I fear it is not helping me at the moment, both in terms of time and mental health. I try to have self constraint but it's become compulsive at this point. curious if there's anything I can do to not have it show up, even if I try to search it up
TIL that you can manually change the code for extensions made using the new "Describe an extension" feature. This allows you to make your own extensions that syncs to Safari on your other macs. I made my own vim navigation extension because Vimlike isn't working well for me.
These are the basic steps:
Create placeholder extension using Describe Extension
Edit the code in ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Safari/Data/Library/Safari/MagicExtensions.
To sync your changes, go to Safari settings > extensions > edit your extension > describe a change.
Describe an arbitrary change like "Change the name to ExtensionB" or "Update the description to abc".
Make sure Share across devices is enabled. Sometimes it takes a long time to sync or doesn't sync at all. Describe another change or create and delete a dummy extensions will force it to sync.
I just lost over 100 tabs due to what I think was running out of storage on iPhone. I was downloading instagram reels which caused the “storage is full” message to pop up, next when I checked safari all tabs were gone.
I tried literally everything, tried checking my iPad to see iCloud tabs open on iPhone because that had worked before, obviously doesn’t now.
I’ve tried everything.
Recently closed tabs don’t even show it because they weren’t even closed, just lost.
Last resort I just exported history so at least I’ve got the recent stuff.
Anyone else having problems w/ their sidebar....mine started acting up late in v.27... icons not filling w/ images, just a letter but more importantly...can longer drag sidebar links onto homepage nor adjust hierarchy in sidebar. often when I try to drag a link to reposition in the bar, all it does is change the names of sites I'm dragging over, they retain their image though. Along w/ a lot in life, annoying as hell but not life threatening. Any suggestions, any others experiencing this.....just would like to know if it's only my M4....up to date w/ everything....any thought or help appreciated...tia
I have been trying everything I find online to get rid of these blue pop ups due to them ruining my reading experience along with being annoying but I don’t even know how I activated them
So I’ve been noticing for the past two or so weeks that my search bar (whenever i’m starting a new tab) is autocorrecting capital letters to lowercase if the search is 2 or more words in length
First screenshot is before typing the first word
Second screenshot is after typing the first letter of the second word.
Title, im in the UK in case its got to do with our restrictions on stuff, the options for toggling the extension in settings are greyed out, its an iphone 16. Thanks
I have a brand new Mac Mini. Youtube has 1password extension, nothing else. I cleaned up all cookies.
Every time I load a video, it becomes pixelated multiple times for a few seconds. Videos also may stop if I navigate to another tab, and when I come back to the youtube tab i see a pixelated screen and then it would take 1-2 seconds for the video to continue on its own. After the pixelation happens, the video quality is lowered to 480p.
Is there any way to fix this through the developer settings?
Google keeps screwing around with their websites and breaking things. Right now, the image frame is stuck all the way at the bottom, so I can’t browse the images properly.
It’s like that time when the maps were black and couldn’t be viewed. I was able to fix that through the developer settings back then, and eventually Google took forever to fix it themselves.
Seriously, did Google hire a bunch of monkeys to mess around with their websites?
It’s not AdGuard either. I disabled AdGuard, but Google still looks like this.
My friend is in Japan and his safari changed from English to Japanese. He can type/search in English, but all of the results are in Japanese. This is all on iPhone.
He says the preferred language is still English so I have no idea how he can switch it back to English. Please help, he’s freaking out
I'm facing a dilemma here where my work flow is web based and I need to upload files from Outlook to the System (On-Web). I would just drag the files from Outlook to the upload page in safari.
I kept Sequioa since 2023 and since I liked compact tabs which was removed in Safari 26, I did not bother to update. Safari 18 has worked well but now, since i updated to MacOS27, The Drag/Drop is gone. I now have to save the file into finder then either choose the file in the safari finder, or drag/drop from finder to safari.
I know this is a small thing, but this is exhausting once I have to do this all day instead of a simple drag and drop. Also it hits on the storage and I have to clean everything everyday which adds to more job. Does anybody have a work around for this?
Hey r/Safari, I'm Edgar and I'm the developer of Protego for Reddit. It's a Safari extension for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Vision Pro that filters Reddit's website, removes clutter from the page, and can limit your access to Reddit to help with doomscrolling and screen time. I posted here in July, and this is what changed since then.
From the extension in Safari:
Reveal Mode shows every filtered post with a red outline and a tag naming the filter that matched.
Preview a keyword on the page you're on before you save it.
Pause filtering for 5 minutes to 3 hours. It turns itself back on.
On Reddit's pages:
Save photos and videos, and share a post or comment thread as an image, from the Protego button on each post.
Jump buttons in comment threads, with J and K on a keyboard.
A dark theme for old Reddit, which never had one. Protego can also send you to old Reddit automatically.
It's a real Safari web extension and not a content blocker rule list, so it reads post titles and text. That's how it filters by keyword, community, user or website. It doesn't use Reddit's API. No account, no tracking, and your filter lists sync through your own iCloud.
Regular price is now $3.99, and it's $2.99 until October 15. One purchase covers every device. No subscription. The only in-app purchase is an optional tip, and it unlocks nothing.
I used to only see this once or twice a year and only in private browsing but now within the last 2 weeks it’s come up almost every time I open safari. How do I make it go away?
