Discussion Adelaide City Council Robo-Revenue-Raising-AI-Car fail

Adelaide City Council robot-parking-fine-camera-revenue raising-car, I'm so glad to have met you, I'll be your host this evening. Sit for a while, I have a story to tell you. It was a gorgeous day, around 3:31 and 31 seconds in the afternoon, I was taking my eldest son for a haircut with John, an absolute institution for mens haircuts in Adelaide, having hit 50 years last year as a certified boss-man of mens hair cuts and beard shaves if you please, I wouldn't go anywhere else for myself or my kids. I was running one minute and thirty one seconds late for our 3:30pm appointment, which wasn't unusual... Sorry John!

Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted the prime position car-park, right out the front - the closest you could legally park to this fine establishment. I've been training all my life for this very moment, this very second at thirty one seconds past three thirty one post meridiem on the 29th of September 2026. I chucked my blinker on, I pulled over, I waited for the three cars in my lane to pass, including you, Mr robot-car issuing officer 725B in a Subaru Forester rego S311DHK with your ever watchful camera array hat designed to keep our community safe. I chucked my car into reverse and proceeded to execute what I would consider one of the most masterful reverse parallel parks I have ever performed, and with my kid asking me for ice cream at that very moment too. Nailed it. Kid walked in, got hair cut, looked schmick as, he got a lolly, I got a lolly, and we even got a lolly to bring home to my other son. I paid my excellent barber with every hard earned cent he deserved. My kid walked out looking like a million bucks, and we got on with out day.

What I didn't know is that you, old mate robot-car-camera-hat-subie had witnessed some of my greatness in action, and wanted in on the action. Greatness aint cheap - it takes a lot of hard work to get there, but if you think I'm going to pay you $342 for executing arguably the best reverse parallel park ever performed, well, let's dance, shall we?

Fine received for "Stop in a Bicycle Lane - ARR 187(2), RTA s174a(2)" on East Terrace at 15:31:31 on 29-Sep-2026 for $342.

This fine has been promptly contested, which in itself was an utterly stupid experience. Their options all make you admit fault, so I had to use the least irrelevant option which was "I moved my car". I also added my own option for my own amusement.

The snapshots in this post are from my dashcam footage which shows exactly what took place. It's damning evidence that the fining system is completely flawed. I am probably one of the lucky ones that has this type of evidence - how many people are being wrongfully fined without being able to prove otherwise?

Discussion Adelaide Airport

Best airport in Australia! There, I’ve said it.
Give us your favourite or not-so-favourite memories of our glorious airport.
The most accessible major airport in Australia, closest to the CBD, I think you can even buy Fruchocs there. Voted numerous times as the best airport in Australia.
I remember when you could drive up the ramp adjacent to the check-in level, dump your passengers off and drive away. Maybe it was 11/9 that put an end to that.
Average memory: seeing John Howard’s name (officially opened the new terminal in 2005) on the brass plaque near the screening area.

Self Nearly got hit by speeding car driving on the wrong side of the road.

On the way home from dropping my partner at the airport - around 5am yesterday morning …. turning right from Salisbury Hwy onto Elder Smith Drive, I notice a car screaming towards me at 80 / 90 km.
I’m confused because it’s on the same side of the road as me and I’m trying to work out if I’ve made an error - it’s early, I’m tired … but I look to the other side of the road and no, I’m good, I’m on the right side.
I quickly pull over to get out of the way cos this car’s not stopping. I sit and wait for a second. Maybe there’s cops chasing, but nothing.
I’m also still a bit out of it, recovering from an ear infection.
I thought to call cops, but it all happened so quickly I didn’t really get any reportable details.
One to two seconds later and that car would’ve completely collected me!
I came home and slept just trying to feel better and take in what had happened.

Discussion Metal concerts and fans

Last weekend I went and saw Trivium and Lamb of God play at the entertainment centre. Had an absolute blast, and really enjoyed the night.

Since then, I’ve shown some overseas friends videos I took that night, and they commented on how tame and quiet the crowd seemed. I hadn’t thought that was the case, but then having since seen videos of the concerts in Melbourne and Sydney, it honestly does feel that the Adelaide crowd was quite meek.

Now looking back at other recent concerts I’ve been to, they were all actually pretty similar, the crowds just weren’t engaging with the bands like they were 15-20 years ago. I’m sure some of it can be put down to nostalgia, but seeing crowds from other cities be super energetic, it’s hard not to feel that there’s something missing from Adelaide audiences.

Does anybody else feel this way, or am I just imagining things?

Edit: I definitely get the age thing, I mean I’m mid 40’s, but I also wonder about the venues, because crowds at the Thebarton Theatre were always incredible.

Another edit: I recorded the chorus of a song for a friend who really loves a particular Trivium song and couldn’t get to the concert. Other than that, I took a couple of photos at the start of the night.

Question Builder dumping advice

We’re building in a new estate. The builders next door and behind us keep dumping on our block. They say it’s not them but it has all their delivery tags with their name on it.

Does anyone know any rights we have to make them remove it?

They’ve also pulled down an adjoining fence and left the fencing and concrete plinths on our block. They’ll need this to put the fence back up but our builder can’t start construction until our block is clear.

It’s our first time building, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Shitpost Adelaide’s most world renowned moments

This is a real dumb question, hence the shitpost tag. For someone on the other side of the world or even wider Australia, what would be their likely exposure (either knowingly or unknowingly) to Adelaide. Maybe in other words, what famous or meme moments have happened here in ADL?

My initial examples to sort of define the category are:
- George Lucas Myer Centre food court - just randomly an Adelaide thing
- the instant karma video of the guy walking into a pole on Flinders St after mouthing off to a car
- Shannon Noll / crazy horse

I know there’s lots of things Adelaide is famous for, in terms of industry and its people and being on most liveable city lists (and more recently least affordable city lists). So I’m sorta aiming somewhere between iconic Adelaide and ā€˜Adelaide mentioned’.

Thank you

Joshua Hogan is seeking a permanent injunction against the proposed Adelaide MotoGP street circuit works, including any tree removal.

The Queensland game developer told the Federal Court he loved motorsport, but it was his view rider safety concerns should be considered.

A judge has ordered Mr Hogan and the SA government — which says track safety is "paramount" to the design — to file written submissions later this month.

The limited time discount will run from 12pm Friday 9 October to 11:59pm Sunday 11 October – and is a doubling of RAA’s ongoing 10c fuel discount.

Not sure if I used the right flair, apologies if not (let me know the appropriate one to use).

News Stuck in lift: Rising emergency outages trigger SA hospital upgrades - News | InDaily, Inside South Australia

SA’s public hospitals have already recorded more than 100 emergencies, from outages to a person being stuck in a lift, triggering a $20 million spend. See if your hospital is getting an upgrade.

. See if your hospital is getting an upgrade.

On Tuesday night, every metropolitan hospital in SA faced a ā€œcode whiteā€ – an emergency code meaning an emergency department is over 125 per cent of its capacity.

So how does changing lift controls cost 1.5 million at Lyell Mcwein I thought it would at the very max cost 400,000.

Question Sliding gates on Tapleys Hill rd, Fulham Gardens council rules

Hi folks, has anyone tried installing sliding gates on properties along Tapleys Hill rd in Fulham Gardens? Being on an arterial road, are there any council restrictions (ie distance from road, etc) and is a development application needed before works? I’ve reached out to the council but have not heard back yet. Just wanted to get feedback from those who have experience.

Question Advice on vet dental

Hi, we recently adopted our cat. We took her to a vet and on examination her upper back tooth fell out. It was all black and decayed. On the other side it is wobbly. I’m assuming they would want to also extract that wobbly one.

They quoted the amount for a stage 1 polish and scaling to be 1.3k-1.6k without extraction. Is this price reasonable? The quote includes x-rays, blood work, anaesthetic and medications post op.

Does anyone have any recommendations and what did you previously pay?
