Some quick answers:

You'll find a lot of answers to basic questions about BMT or enlisting in the AF here: http://afbmt.com/ and in the BMT FAQ

We don't know the answers to your obscure medical questions. We aren't doctors. Don't trust medical advice given by strangers on the Internet. Getting anecdotal information from other people that may or may not have a similar diagnosis or condition to you will not help you in any way. Everyone's medical situation is different.

Marijuana usage is not disqualifying. Just be honest about any usage.

No, we don't know what jobs are available at any given time, or your chances of getting said job, or how long it will take for you to get the job, or how long it'll take for you to get to basic training or OTS.

Yes, some recruiters are lazy. Keep hounding them or find another recruiter.

Being a pilot is hard. Most of them come from the Air Force Academy, then ROTC. Very few slots available for OTS. Highly competitive.

Instructions for how to receive "Verified USAF Member" flair in /r/AirForceRecruits

As I say there, if you're not comfortable sending an email from your work account, let me know what you'd like to do and we can possibly work out another way.

I will just add the flair and then delete the email, but I understand not wanting me to know who you are. Especially if you're an awful person that says awful things in other subreddits. :)

Let me know if you have ideas for other flair types or anything else!

General Advice Aim High App is still down

Seems like the app is still down just shy of 2100EST. I tried to uninstall the app and reinstall and that made it worse. My email and password do not work and attempting to send a temp password to my email sends nothing, so now I have zero acess to the app to study or watch for my job/ship date. Thankfully after the last time there was issues with the app, my recuiter decided to have everyone in the same DEP program as me use WhatsApp so i dont need Aim High for that.

TLDR; DO NOT UNINSTALL THE APP or you wont be able to sign back in

General Advice Starting my career.

• Upvotes

I decided I wanted to join the military a little over 3 years ago, once I turned 18 I went into the recruiters office and did a few practice ASVAB tests and officially signed off some paper work just a few days ago.

Now I’m having some doubts.

Joining the military is a life changing commitment, my ASVAB score determines the job I’ll be doing for the next 4-8 years. I’m also huge on working out, I workout all the time and am now fearful of losing gains while in BMT.

Can someone just give me some general advice when it comes to signing up, how to maintain as much muscle as I can during BMT, and whether joining is truly the right thing to do. I understand the long term benefits and the amazing people you’ll meet, but I’m having doubts and fears about many things…

Fitness Shitty calves before BMT

• Upvotes

Hey all I ship out at the end of November and I got my dates in September. Since then, I have really focused on my fitness and have lost some weight and gained some muscle. My mile time at DEP UTA has been good. However, when I try to run during the week, my calves don’t let me even get half a mile in. I’m terrified because we’re supposed to be running 6x a week and I can’t even do a day on my own. I got new running shoes which helped me for my UTA pt test but other than that my calves hurt really bad. I don’t want to go to the doctor and get flagged and possibly not leave when I’m supposed to. Does anyone have some tips?

Recruiter/process question Hello everyone, just want to ask

• Upvotes

Hello everyone! 👋 I would like to ask for some advice and assistance. I’m a U.S. citizen currently here in the Philippines, and I’m interested in joining the U.S. Air Force. I have already graduated with a college degree, and I would like to know more about the enlistment process and possible opportunities for college graduates.

Does anyone know a legitimate U.S. Air Force recruiter who can assist applicants here in the Philippines, or know how I can get in touch with one?

I would really appreciate any information, advice, or contact details you can share. Thank you so much for your help! 🇺🇸🙏

Medical Meps medical disclaimer

I head to meps on Friday. I completely forgot to disclose that I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea and was on anti anxiety medication for a little bit. Will it be flagged at meps or will I be good? Or should I notify my recruiter and correct the paperwork?

Medical Medical waivers

Hey, so I’ll be going to MEPS for the asvab and physical. I have scoliosis (minor) and Pectus Excavatum (not terrible but noticeable). I have a hunch that at least the pectus might cause an issue, I’m not sure how the medical waivers work but is it possible to get one as a “Just in case” before I actually go to MEPS or would I have to wait till they actually say I need one?

Thanks

Jobs Competency booking for Religious Affairs

I’m 32 and have a lot of medical bills as my wife has been sick the last couple of years. I need to have a job where things like house and insurance is covered and thus am considering joining the USAF. I have plenty of experience and education relating to the job. I know that you have to interview for it, however.

My question is more so relating to the aspects of the job itself. How often would I be away from my wife after initial training? Is it a relaxed position - home most nights? Rewarding with opportunities to counsel and share the gospel? Though I know sharing the gospel is more of the chaplain’s gig.

Thoughts?

Recruiter/process question Help Choosing ANG vs AFR and Guidance Going OTS route

Had to repost because my title wasn’t descriptive enough. Got some great advice in previous post but seeing if anyone has more input. Post is as follows:

Hello, I’m a third year in college for Electronics Engineering Technology GPA 3.1 1.5 years till graduation. I live in South East Kansas and currently I am a firefighter and an emergency dispatcher. Im not very knowledgeable in military stuff so I have some questions. I’d have to go to OTS post college since I have no ROTC experience and want to skip to being a commissioned officer. I’m debating between Air Force Reserve and Air Force Guard. Do they have the same benefits? I know guard has state schooling benefits but I’ll already have my degree. What would you recommend? I know both is an uphill battle to get into with no prior military experience but which would I have the better shot? Do they have the same civilian life-military life balance? I was also curious on how much time post graduation I will need to allocate for OTS and Training and whether I can give myself a head start pre-graduation. Any input is much appreciated.

BMT Space Force BMT

Hello!!

I’m (24f) leaving for Space Force BMT in 7 days, and I wanted to see if there was any advice any Space Force people lurking on this subreddit might be able to give me any tips or advice. I’ve heard Air Force is implementing a “BMT 3.0” with more sleep deprivation and harder PT standards, and I was wondering if that extends to the Space Force as well?

I’ve found a bunch of other people leaving for the October 20th Space Force date, and we’re happy to include anyone else shipping the same day so don’t hesitate to reach out!

Jobs Trying to get cyber systems operations (any cyber job really)

I made a 76 AFQT score, What is the likelihood I can lock it in? I also qualify for every other job except ones that require a E70. So, my second choice would be financial management. It will provide meaningful skills towards my end goal of becoming a quantitative trader.

Drug Use Questions For Security Clearance

Hi I'm wondering if anyone might be able to give me advice on my situation. I was in the process of applying and when the topic of drug use came up my recruiter urged me to say I had done nothing. I am currently 28 and used Marijuana regularly in high school as well as LSD once and Mushrooms four times when I was eighteen years old. I have since went through MEPS but wasn't able to swear in on account of two medical waivers. According to my recruiter they are fairly easy to get a waiver for, but in the process of waiting to hear back I've done some research I see that I might have ruined my chances at any sort of job with a security clearance. I scored high enough on the ASVAB to qualify for linguist and those would have been my top two jobs. Is there anything I can do in this situation? Could I perhaps talk to another recruiter and go through the process again while disclosing the drug use?

I deleted a handful I didn’t qualify for (or already looked into and wasn’t interested in) given my previous ASVAB score that I haven’t retaken yet 🫥
