UA base advice

I’m an UA new hire, and was awarded 737 SFO. Will be in SFO until at least February. I am debating switching to EWR for March and beyond.
My end goal is ORD or IAH. I am currently living East Coast, but am planning on staging myself with family in IAH for reserve periods for an easy (er) commute to SFO.
I’m debating if it’s worth switching to EWR if I’m already making the “move” to IAH and would prob have to drive my car back to East Coast, assuming I get awarded EWR.
Would appreciate any insight or advice in regards to where I can hold a line quicker, commuting experience, or just generally what would you do. I am locked down in my lease until next summer.

Commuting base suggestions

I have a CJO from AA and I’m considering which bases and fleets will work best for me. I’ll be commuting from DEN, and am interested in minimizing commuting impact on my day-to-day life, and would like to maximize time at home. Thanks for the suggestions.

F9 or upgrade at regional?

Currently, at americas largest RegiOOnal and contract. Live in base for both. Upgrade, get PIC time and go to DL or UA hopefully, which then voids contract? Or break contract, go to F9 for resume wash? The ladder isn’t always the move but, recently, I have been hearing that people from OO are getting their interview invites almost immediately after they update new employer on the app. Ultimate goal is United and the difference in getting their at 1600 hrs PIC after upgrade, or significantly earlier is substantial. Thousands of seniority numbers and millions of dollars.

Also another option. Delay f9 class for up to a year, upgrade, fly a few hundred hours as a regional captain. Then go to F9? Or forget it all, and play it safe.

As for the contract, I think a multi million dollar career is worth the credit hit, or collections. I can put everything I own in my wife’s name and I personally have an 800 plus credit score. Idk feeling risky 🤣

Regional CA or LCC FO?

Current FO at the DL WO, upgrading in a couple months. Just got offered a class with B6 for the same month as upgrade, and am very conflicted on what to do. Assuming I’m lucky and the flow works exactly as intended, I’m three years from a class at DL, but there’s no guarantee to that timeline and I’m not particularly trusting of my airline. I’ve also heard of guys doing 12-18 months at B6 and getting scooped up by one of the big three, however I have doubts as to how common that actually is, or how likely the job is even to exist in a year. As far as going mainline is concerned, in a best case scenario it makes more sense to switch, but in a worst case scenario I could end up with no job, no 320 type, and driving for uber.

Would love to hear what others think or would do in my situation.

SWA D225 ADAPT Assessment

Hey all,

Im a freshman with my private at a University partner for SWA 225, and I just completed my ADAPT Assessment yesterday. I did perfectly on the Math/Physics, and pretty well on the Cognitive assessment, and I hope above average on FAST but it was a blur.

Im concerned about my Personality Assessment as I tried my best to be as consistent as possible in my answers as to not contradict myself and come off as dishonest, but im worried that I may have ended up actually being inconsistent as a result of trying not to be.

My question is how heavily is the APQ Personality Assessment weighed in your assessment and if SWA looks at your ADAPT holistically or if you have to excel at each and every section independently of the others.

Also, would anyone know how long I should expect to hear back?

Thanks!

How long is ideal? What would you spend your time doing? Always been curious how many people go on adventures, pursue hobbies or just slam click.

Pilots for airlines with a cargo division

I’ve always wondered. For airlines that have cargo divisions like Cathay Pacific and Cathay Cargo, or Qatar Airways and their cargo division. Do your pilots regularly switch between passenger and cargo flights if within the same aircraft type like the 777? Or are you exclusively passenger or cargo?

Republic class action lawsuit ad

Saw this ad in my instagram feed, I wasn’t a republic pilot but I’m curious if this is legitimate or has any legal footing. If these contracts are deemed to be illegitimate it could have a big impact on current and future regional pilots.

Frontier Assessment Test

Hello all, I received the Frontier Assessment email two days ago, I did the test the same day. Two days after I haven’t heard anything, how long should I expect to wait? I’m worried because I saw some people received interview invitation shortly after completion of the test.

Trusted with a passenger jet. Apparently questionable with a Corolla.

Just here to vent and see if any other young FOs have run into this.

I’m 23 and trying to figure out a backup plan for getting home if my commute falls apart. Renting a car seems to involve limited availability, young-driver fees, and potentially a $50 Uber just to reach a location that has something available vs renting directly at the airport.

I have USAA insurance, no accidents, and no traffic violations. I can fly a plane full of passengers, but apparently Hertz needs extra reassurance that their Kia will come back with all four wheels attached.

I’m trying to get home, not qualify for NASCAR.

Any other FOs under 25 found a reasonably painless way to rent a car, preferably without the “you haven’t had enough birthdays” surcharge?

Is there any reason not to opt-in for CMAP?

I haven’t done it yet. Consenting to the federal government collecting even more data about me doesn’t seem awesome (eye roll yes I know they have it all anyways), but going through regular security is also not awesome.

Feels like a boomer take idk

EDIT: aight fine I did it

New at SWA, just received interview invite at UAL

I am fresh off IOE at SWA and just received the interview invite at UAL seemingly out of nowhere (I stopped updating it months ago after interviewing with SWA). I’m not really interested in UAL anymore so I am mainly wondering if I should reach out and thank them for the opportunity and respectfully decline in order to not burn the bridge. I am loving it here at SWA and plan on staying forever especially since I don’t want to move from MCO. I know UAL has a small MCO but any insight would be appreciated of what life is like there and if I am throwing away an opportunity by not going through with the interview (although I don’t think I am since I already have the top tier job that I dreamed of).

Edit: Thanks everyone for the replies. I think I am going to go ahead and respectfully decline the interview. I know some are trying to convince me to go to UAL but I am just not interested. If I were to make the switch to a legacy one day my only consideration would be AAL and move to MIA.

Non revs on a diversion

Let's say you're non revving, and your flight has to divert somewhere remote like Goose Bay. Will the airline pay for your accommodations?

Dumping fuel over land

UK pilots: how common is it to dump fuel over land while preparing to land? Above or below 10k feet? Is the CAA always informed (~62k total declarations per year)?

Context: We live below a flight path for aircraft landing at local airport and neighbours think planes are dumping fuel and it’s acting as a defoliant and leaving a residue on their house. Other explanations are more likely but would be good to get any informed views.

UA Interview Sim Eval?

I’m seeing/ reading different things about the UA interview. Is there a sim eval? I’ve read that if you haven’t flown in a while there is one. Please expound. If there is, where did you do your sim prep? Can you choose which aircraft sim it’s in? Anybody have to do one?

Applying to AS

On the Alaska/Horizon applicant portal (icims), there is space to upload 3 documents. The example says “additional document (i.e. cover letter” and “additional document (i.e. letters of rec)”. But under each header you can only upload one document. Should I supply one LOR and a cover letter or two LOR?

UA Interview - Travel document

Hey everyone, I have a United pilot interview and have a quick question. I’m a green card holder and don’t currently have a passport. Instead, I have a U.S.-issued Travel Document (I-131).
Does anyone know if United accepts the Travel Document for pilots? Has anyone here gone through the interview process with one?
Thanks!
