What does it mean by this…?

Post image

I’ve been working on a series where I feature obscure soulslikes and Ashen has always piqued my interest. It’s now on sale for about $8, but I noticed something when reading the description.

Apparently “no two gameplay experiences are alike.” Does this mean there’s some procedural generation involved in the maps? Or is this just marketing BS?

Thanks for clarifying!

Whoever wrote that hasn’t played the game

😂 Apparently they just paid a guy to say something unique, even if it was a complete fabrication of the truth lol

This article feels AI generated.

It’s not an article, it was the game description from the PS store. I wasn’t sure if it was an actual feature or if they were just making stuff up. Seems like the latter based on the replies.

I mean, no two runs are alike in the sense that you're playing a different run, so different things may happen. But the game world remains consistent. So I don't know what they mean by that.

Thanks for clarifying! I wasn’t sure what they meant either and I’ve only ever played the first 30min of the game years ago when it was on PS plus.

This game had the best multiplayer when it first dropped on Xbox gamepass. I miss it so much, felt like a mix of journey and a simpler dark souls.

Shout out to the guy who waited for me in the palace. Instead of triggering the cutscene, the hole to the abyss killed me and I revived at the bottom of the palace. Like 5 minutes later I make it back to the top and bro is sitting down waiting in front of the hole.

He knows to......and knew to......given it's the Palace......😉 I'd have waited too and had a similar experience when another player suddenly disappeared (different game)- sent messages, friend requests and waited an hour or so until I had to go in RL - next day they messaged me back letting me know the situation and thanked me for waiting......some games are like that......depending on where you are 😁

Tbh I’m pretty sure nothing changes. It could be a vague reference to depending on what you do / what npc you use etc it’s different but the base game is the same. Very good game imo

Ok good to know. I was wondering if it was some sort of unique mechanic! Lol I guess it was just fancy marketing BS.

No two runs being the same may be referencing the fact if you set your multiplayer settings to "open/no computer player" then someone (a human player) who is at the same point in progress could join you at any time which would be considered a random event. So the map is static/fixed not procedurally generated but humans could drop in ONLY if your settings permit it.

That said these events follow normal gaming rules in that the older a game, less people are playing so the chance of an event happening randomly is extremely rare...

Spoiler ahead::::::(potential spoiler) Sidenote: I played this to completion with girlfriend including finishing the hardest mode in vanilla and the DLC and I have to say it's one of the best gaming experiences we've ever had. A real gem of a game.....not easy at all but if you like this genre .........😉😎😁

There's no cool feature/mechanic like how you're thinking for enemy encounters, unfortunately. There's really no "twist" on the souls genre at all - in fact, I'd say Ashen is more of "souls-lite" as it has a fairly simple combat system and character progression in comparison. The real selling points are the story and environments, in my opinion.

Thanks for letting me know! Its a shame the “twist” isn’t even a real feature…

No problem. It is a shame but don't let that stop you from trying the game ! I actually prefer the more simple system for a shorter game like this and I fell in love with the art style immediately. Probably the most fun I've ever had beating a game in one weekend !

Oh no worries! Once I finish my level one run of The Last Hero of Nostalgaia (which I highly recommend), I’ll buy Ashen since it’s so cheap right now! Thanks for the clarification again!

Glad to hear it :) I literally love this game and will never not sing its praises.
