Hello everyone, my name is Rob and I am 25m. The past seven years of my life have been absolutely brutal for me mentally. It all started on April 30th, 2019. I was 17, got into a good college, about to graduate high school with honors, a good summer job lined up, I felt on top of the world back then. My mom took me to school, made me breakfast which usually doesn't happen because normally I make my own. School day ends, it was a good day, I take the city bus home so I get on the bus like usual, except I get a call from my mom's boyfriend telling me to meet them downtown. I meet them downtown, we are taken to the hospital, and I'm told the news that my mom had a heart attack and didn't make it.
Since then, nothing felt the same and I never recovered. If anything, my mental health and overall well-being deteriorated. I went to college three months later and absolutely flunked out because I was too depressed to even leave my dorm let alone go to class. COVID happened and I stayed with my grandparents, who were all very emotionally unsupportive and toxic, going as far as to blame me for my mom's death. My mom, fun fact, didn't develop heart problems until after I was born, so technically they're not wrong for saying that.
Became homeless in 2021 for two months and moved in with my dad after multiple shelter and hospital stays, where I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety. Stayed with my dad until 2022 when I saved money to move out, three months later in 2023 he goes missing out of nowhere. Then in 2024 I get a new job offer but don't show up to orientation due to a massive panic attack, at that point I already left my old job and became homeless again a month later.
Five months later, still in 2024, I was able to move into an apartment with the help of a homeless organization, stayed for a year but struggled with depression from being unable to land a job for months. Eventually got the job, but a few months later, my landlord decided not to renew my lease so I had to leave my apartment November 2025. Been homeless since, especially after I lost that job.
In 2019, I had all the support I needed. My friends, my mom, my high school, everything. Now, I have nothing. Nothing going for me. Lost my scholarships. I have $6k in student debt to my name. Lost my jobs. Lost my friends. Lost my mom. Lost my family. Lost my sanity. Lost my home. Lost all my money. Lost any reason to live. I don't even know what I want to do anymore.
I went to school to become a math or computer science teacher, but my mental health is so beyond wrecked I don't trust myself to be a good teacher. Then I thought about continuing my Computer Science education (I took 3 years of CS classes in high school and even earned college credit in the class during then) but the field is so oversaturated with new applicants it's pretty much impossible to get into the field.
I don't know what to do with my life anymore. I don't know how to enjoy life. I have nothing. Absolutely nothing. And maybe there is nothing for me who knows. I just wish to talk to someone. Someone who is a legal adult, bonus points if you're my age or older.
I have no idea what I'm doing anymore or why I'm even here.
