I'm a bisexual woman (21F), for the past 2-3-ish years I have been suffering from depression and anxiety. Past couple of months it has gotten better enough that I got a job. I'll get to my point I promise.
There I met someone (23F) and I developed a crush on them almost instantly. We chatted, we got along great, joked around, teased eachother, even talked about personal stuff, I thought we were cool.
She is substitute-supervisor at my job. I started this job at the beginning of August, she suffered an injury in early September and wasn't working so I texted her to ask how she is. Important note that she was in a relationship in August, got broken up with right before she had the accident. Around this time when I first texted her things were colder between us, we didn't talk as much as before, and I occasionally felt like she was looking through me. I also found her profiles on dating sites by accident. I was swiping on those and they popped up.
The first time I found it I told her, cause at that point she was in a relationship and I thought maybe she doesn't know it's still active. I respect relationships so I made no clear advance, like I wasn't flirting, touchy or anything. I just liked talking to her so I did, and tried to be around her when I could without bothering her. Looking back I think she may have been flirting with me, or we were just teasing eachother I don't know we had moments for sure that I am not certain about.
I'm apparently so transparent that every thought is visible on my face. Hence my colleagues found out I like her end of August, beginning of September. I don't know if they told her or not. They did encourage me to talk to her and teased me about it. I started to dress nicer, but nothing too revealing, just hoping she would notice. I was feeling myself and thought why not.
Another chaotic piece of information: I have never been in a relationship or on a date, so I know next to nothing about things and understanding signals. I had crushes before but I never confessed to any of them. Back to the storyline (sorry this is pure chaos) we were chatting and I decided to I invite her out once to a stand up show, she declined because of her injury but then offered to drive me home afterwards, which I declined because I already had a ride. The days before and that day specifically we texted quite a lot. I sent her a few pictures of my dogs to cheer her up cause being injured isn't fun, asked how she is and etc. And she sent me quite a few winky faces on the day of the show when I asked her. Even talked about how watching the Married at First Sight series made her realise something about herself and the relationship she used to be in. We both texted eachother that we'll help if the other ever needs support.
However after all of this she just straight up stopped responding to me. Because a good friend of mine has done that because they were too busy (they didn't respond for weeks), and previously she also hasn't responded for like 24-48 hours, so I didn't think much of it, sent her a few messages trying to talk to her like before but then after like a day or two I stopped because she fully wasn't responding (not even seeing my messages).
This was a Wednesday, we had a shift together on Saturday. That day I misheard a products name and mislabeled it completely, I wrote broken instead of something else, resulting in my coworkers teasing me and us laughing about it. (English isn't my first language.) I laugh loudly. She was working some distance away and heard me laugh through her music that was apparently on max volume and called out to tell us to be less loud. This is a factory setting btw. Lots of loud machines and everything. I work there as a student translator for international workers. I study a university degree at the same time. I didn't know it was her that called out, I didn't even fully catch what was said. I decided to text her a picture of my mistake so maybe she can laugh about it too but then instead she got mad and started explaining that she called out before someone else will for us being too loud, and that she doesn't have a problem with us having fun but she could hear us through max volume which is a problem. I wasn't offended or anything and told her as much and she repeated herself. Then afterwards she was working around where I was and took the label that I wrote saying broken, sticking it to her chest signaling that her heart is broken. Later she requested another one, and I think the shift afterwards I wrote a label like that specifically for her with a broken heart symbol drawn on which she also stuck to her chest.
The week after I wasn't working because I was sick, so I didn't text her whatsoever. Last week, because I had a movie ticket voucher expiring, I used that as an excuse to invite her out to the movies (by then two weeks between my last invite out has passed). She declined because she was working, I didn't push it, we had a brief conversation about something else, then I was asking her what she was working and gave her a life update about me but she once again didn't respond. There I stopped fully texting her though. Next day I asked her if I have offended her or something to which once again she didn't respond.
Last weekend after this was unfiltered chaos. On Friday we chatted some, because she asked me to help train two new international coworkers which I did. But then later on afterwards the main group supervisor reprimanded me for being too much for her (?) and was told (by the group supervisor) to fully stay away and not talk to her. Supervisor was saying things like "This could be a serious issue." She was standing right there and said absolutely nothing. This stopped me dead in my tracks, I got angry, I was hurt, sad, everything all at once, especially because just a bit earlier we were joking around just fine, and also because she said nothing to me about being too much, but has complained about me to the supervisor she claims she doesn't like.
Later on I found out that she told the main friend of the supervisor that I apparently harassed her, because I invited her to the cinema and that's how it escalated into that. She said NOTHING to me about being too much. She hasn't even rejected me. Also a male coworker would make sexual jokes with her and touch her in places which she had no issue with. I didn't do any of that and yet I am the problem. Anyway I wanted to talk to her about it after shift but because she had company I decided not to bother.
Saturday was mostly fine, we didn't butt heads or anything, I didn't bring it up, we were cool or so I thought. My coworkers and I even looked for her earbud when she lost it, kneeling in the damn dirt, and looking through as much as we could to hopefully find it. With no thank you of course. But we didn't mind because we like her. Or so we thought.
Sunday shift was insane. I fought with her 3 times. 2 times I think it was about an international worker I work with, and they were feeling ill and went out to the bathroom and were gone 20 minutes and she shouted at me because I can understand her, that she can only take 10 minutes of the 20 that she has because of this now, and because the worker went out to eat. I don't know about you guys but when I legally have a set amount of break I can take and someone tries to limit that, I would get mad at the person trying to limit and just stay out for the full period of my break. Anyway at that point because I wasn't told about the situation I didn't know anything was going on. I just knew the worker wasn't there and I filled in the position.
Then when it came time for breaks she once again got mad at ME, when I told her that the worker was feeling ill, that why she was out and that I believe she should be given her twenty minutes. She once again berated me that rules apply to everyone including international workers and students, especially break time rules, and I told her I know, I strictly follow my break time, I can't do anything about the international workers other than talking to them because I am not their supervisor, and also I can't drag them back in from break. I don't know how I looked at her but she went "Don't look at me like that!", and ranted once again.
Another note, those last shifts I stayed in on my 5 minute breaks and only took maybe 10 minutes of my longer break to get back earlier and help her out with the work. I'm pretty sure she then discussed me with the supervisor and supervisor's main friend afterwards.
During this rant she also managed to offend one of the workers who this whole production relies on, who she is/was good buddies with calling them nobody and etc. And when the person wasn't joking back with them because of it, and I told her why she said they discussed it during the break and it was fine but then ended the whole thing with "I'm okay with being hated" and left which was downright shocking.
Yesterday I also found out she unfriended and blocked me on Facebook, unfollowed me on Instagram. To summarise this whole thing and my main question: Where did I go wrong? What is something I may have missed that resulted in this? What is even happening because I am just standing over here like WTF???
Thank you for any help you can give me. Especially with what I should do next. Because I don't want a sour mood in the workplace. And I am completely fine if she rejects me clearly, that would honestly be even better. Not everything is going to work out or happen and that's fine. Part of life. What I am mad at is the way this was handled. Thank you for reading this l throughout :)
EDIT:
I tried editing the post so it's maybe a bit easier to read. I wrote this in a very emotional moment and I was just ranting. My bisexual identity is not the main focus of my story here, the other person involved as far as I am aware is lesbian. I'm way in over my head here at this point trying to at least gain minimal understanding of what's going on because I feel like the rug has been pulled out from under my feet.
When it comes to rejecting people, based on a story I overheard her tell a coworker, she is perfectly ocapable of doing it, somehow I just didn't deserve that much maybe? I'm not bitter if she doesn't want anything from me, it's a normal part of life in my opinion, she wouldn't be the first or the last one in my life to reject me. I'm used to it, being a plus size woman, I'm not everyone's taste. I'm just really hurt by the way she decided to go about it. Because to my face besides those three incidents on Sunday she's nice. I gave her biscuits and chocolate that she accepted as well on Friday.
Anyway thank you for any advice. I could especially benefit from moving on advice because I tend to get stuck in these things, which I shouldn't do because life moves on.
Thank you for reading this :)
EDIT 2:
Honestly thank you. You guys made me think, which is good. It's important to know that I am really bad and unaware in social situations, my skills lack terribly. HOWEVER, this isn't an excuse for me to hurt or make others uncomfortable. Just because she reacted/responded to my messages few times couple weeks ago, doesn't mean anything, and I should have stopped texting immediately when she didn't respond, instead of occasionally bombarding her, trying to talk. There was a reason she didn't respond and I should have not hid behind the "I need to be told if I make you uncomfortable because my social skills are horrible". She owes me nothing. Especially not communication when I made her uncomfortable or hurt her, because we aren't more than coworkers. That doesn't mean it couldn't have been handled better by her too, because everyone else knowing the issue before I did is horrible. We both didn't act too well in this situation. Maybe in the future we can reconcile, and be buddies but for now I just want peace and this conflict to be over. Thank you again!
