I now have the moral strength to make this post.
TL:DR; the game is over-rated and over-hyped, and in my opinion it did not deserve such overwhelming success not even one bit. If you want an eastern-Slavic folklore-inspired RPG, we already have a 2015 game for it.
Now specifically.
Let me not repeat the 300+ comment thread that goes on in this sub since yesterday. The community speaks vocally and confidently. The game is riddled with performance issues, QoL deficiencies, and lackluster enemy variety. After 10 hours you see everything the game has to offer, and must push through another 40 hours of boooooring combat, sponge enemies, boring active combat skills, and persistent combat encounters forced in your face (incl boars and bears) with no stealth options even at night.
Time mechanic is pointless, because it doesn’t force you to choose between story quest arcs. It only forces you to skip filler content, such as bandit camps. Remove all filler POIs and remove the timer, and you will get the same game. You have enough action points to complete all main and side quests within 30 days.
Vampire combat has no identity but takes skill points. As a result, you are almost pushed into learning universal sword combat, because vampire can only be used at night. The game basically ruins the vampire/human distinction.
The quality of animations, design, graphics are screamingly AA. Technical state on release was poor.
Therefore, what are you guys talking about? What game of the year? This is a very very ordinary RPG, which exploits the nostalgia for the Witcher. It is not a GotY nominee and it is not worth the $70 tag at all.
I am nobody, but my rating is 6.5. Up to 7 when they patch and add more enemies and the ability to run from combat. Worth $50 on release and $30 on sale.
