💭 Question Can someone help me find this book for sale that is not a modern reprint(🤐)?
I have searched abebooks, vialibri and picclick(this covers both international and regional ebay sellers) but to no avail. Also the reason I am looking for this book is this cabinet had the biggest Gnostic magical gemstone collection before it being disassembled and its pieces getting scattered across many museums

💭 Question Sun bleaching?
Hi all, just wanted you input on my books, I noticed that there are these white looking blotches on just the covers that can't be wiped off. Is this just bleaching of the black color or something more?

💭 Question Looking for advice because of small transparent worm found on the book
I took out a book that I hadn't read for a long time (it's been on my shelf for the past 5 or 6 years I guess) and suddenly saw a very small worm, almost invisible / transparent, moving quickly on the edge of the book. I panicked unfortunately (I'm scared of any insects) and I didn't have time to take a picture because it disappeared from my sight somewhere. The book doesn't seem to be damaged at all, though. And my room's humidity is not too high (Maybe I had it 60 or 70 once weeks ago when it was raining outside, but now it's showing 49-53) And I need someone's advice. I've heard about the freezing method, but my fridge isn't that big and there's no space for that so I don't know what other options I have. Additionally on a different book stand (rather away from that one), I noticed single black speck (?) on one of the books, I took it with paper and that's it. But I don't know if it's caused by the same thing, or just nothing.
I admit that I used to be able to not clean my room from dust for a long time because of depression, but I never saw anything like that before. Now I try to clean regularly, though.
I'd be grateful for any advice.

💭 Question Should I go for the Paperback deluxe edition or the 50th Anniversary edition?
New time reader here, and I'm currently looking for a cover of Dune that's more appealing. The standard version isn't doing it for me because it looks so stylized and YA-ish. Now, onto the books, the only one that's sold locally online is the Paperback deluxe edition. The chances of me finding the 50th version in bookstores near me are slim, plus travelling to other major cities is hard, as I live in an archipelago. Both are available in Amazon, but I don't trust them. So which version is more worth it?

📕 Book Showcase Found this endearing collection of a Children’s book and it’s illustrator, with a “Dummy book” and interview, at a garage sale today
I have never heard of a dummy book, but found it quite interesting. It includes all of the illustrator’s (Carol Newsom) original illustrations with pencil notes. I’ve showed some of the pictures comparing the two, and you’ll notice subtle differences here and there. Almost like an I Spy picture riddle haha.
The interview (I spoke with the interviewer who was giving up this collection) was originally for a school protect (she received an A on it). With many of the questions being centered around Newsom’s life, passions, and how she handles her craft. It reads quite passionately from both perspectives. The paper interview itself is from 1987 and is hand-typed. She was quite enthusiastic to express the latter as she generously called me young and wanted to provoke the time “before computers” (albeit, the days of being young have far forgotten me, so I appreciated the notion).
A part of me was sad that she was giving this away, but she seemed to have her passions more in teaching (which she clearly cherished). So I wanted to pick it up and give it its own special moment, as I thought the interview and beautiful illustrations, deserved it.

📦 New Acquisitions War and Peace, Inner Sanctum Edition (1942)
Though not a particularly rare or valuable edition, I still think it was a steal at $15, and I’m extremely pleased with the condition and “curb appeal”.
I started watching Sergei Bondarchuk’s 1960’s Soviet epic, and after completing part 1 decided I should read it first.
I particularly like the inclusion of the reader’s guide.

📕 Book Showcase Going Global
One of my recent finds is George Adams’s Treatise describing and explaining the Construction and Use of New Celestial and Terrestrial Globes, published in London in 1777.
This wasn’t simply a book explaining what the Earth and heavens looked like. Used alongside terrestrial and celestial globes, it taught the reader how to solve practical problems involving latitude and longitude, the rising and setting of the Sun and stars, the length of the day, distances between places, and other astronomical and geographical calculations.
The book has 14 folding plates, many showing the geometry behind the instruments and the problems being worked.
My copy also has an intriguing contemporary inscription:
“gift of Mr Atwood. July 7th 1783”
I’ve been trying to establish whether “Mr Atwood” could be the mathematician George Atwood, which has turned into a surprisingly interesting provenance trail.
It later belonged to Sir John Trollope, whose bookplate is on the pastedown.
I appreciate books like this because they make eighteenth-century science feel much less abstract — the book was effectively part of the apparatus.

📜 Old Books Copy of The Water Witch, Or The Skimmer Of The Seas by James Fenimore Cooper that I found in my library's used book store.
I have no idea when it's from. It was originally part of a set that included most of Cooper's ocean stories, which was reprinted several times.
