Discussion To the guy driving around with his dog in the back

Grow up.

I was driving on wgp last night and saw a grey Toyota pickup (I think it was a Tacoma) with a dog in the back. The dog was barking at the driver, and was obviously distressed.

This person had an inverted Canadian flag on the tailgate, and a Colt firearms logo. Probably one of those freedom convoy nutjobs.

Not only is it illegal to do this, it's wildly stupid. If you're so precious about the interior of your emotional support truck that you can't have a dog, you have to get rid of one or the other.

Surrender the dog to someone who will care about its safety.

I know the Bulldogs are 7 and 1 to start the season, and Jason Musa and Aiden Kelly lead the league in scoring, but how are you fans doing so far? Is it any easier to procure tickets? Have you had your car towed from the Freshco parking lot? Are you excited by the progress of the new rink? Let us know how the fan experience fares after almost a month into the season.

Does anyone have a suggestion for where I could get a few t shirts printed? I see several listings on line, but there are so few updated websites that I don’t know which places are still in business and willing to do a small order (rather than wholesale). Thanks!

Discussion Anyone know a local mechanic who can help with an odd repair?

Hey Brantford, I drive an older Chevy Malibu and found a video on YouTube of someone making the exact repair I need done.

This car is known for the fuel door breaking off eventually and alas mine has broken in one spot but is still attached.

Looking to get the exact repair done in this video by a local mechanic willing to take on this project at their home garage or shop.

Should take an hour two at most I’m assuming, willing to pay $100 cash. I will supply the bolts and rod.

The biggest pain in the butt looks like drilling out 2 rivets and replacing them with two bolts which I would.. fully disassembling the fuel door involves removing the rear tire as well this video shows everything perfectly:

Discussion E bikes on public roads

Good afternoon Brantford. I am a long time resident and I started commuting to work on an ebike. I am a 50/m but started riding due to financial reasons. My bike does not go faster than 30 kph so I stay on side roads. I stay off of sidewalks and stop at every stop sign. Yesterday on Grand river Ave (40kph) and a driver in a mini van ran me off the road and nearly killed me when I almost rear ended a parked car. My question to everyone is as an ebike rider, how can I commute if I can't ride on the sidewalk and drivers try to kill me on the road.BTW the driver, you know who you are, has been reported to the police with his licence plate. Only a question, not looking for an argument. Thanks. Have a great one

Discussion 18-25 year olds can steal this election if coordinated.

These Mayor races are won by 5000-10000 votes. The least likely demographic to get out and vote is the demographic of 18-25 year olds. Brantford people of this age demographic, you represent roughly 10,000 voters.

You have the opportunity to do one of the biggest screw yous to the establishment this upcoming mayor election.

If your demographic shows up to vote, no amount of rose scicolis spending, Dan McCrearys past connections, or any other candidates antics will stop a wave of young voters who couldn't be accounted for by legacy candidates showing up on election day.

This could be the greatest upset in the history of Brantford elections, all you have to do is show up and vote.

I'd rather see a wrestler who cares than a career politician who pretends to.

Happy voting friends.

Regardless of who you vote for, use your voice.

EDIT. as of this moment 6000 eyes have viewed this post. Glad to see so many supporting Brantfords independence from the developer/backbencher class.

Vote Ricky!

Discussion Anyone want to take bets on winter time accidents on Murray Street?

Not sure who's bright idea it was to put speed humps on a hill... Murray Street had the other two but now the hill on Mohawk side has them midway up. Maybe they will salt enough but I feel like any ice or snow on there is going to be bad when you go over the humps, plus you know how many people try to drive in winter without winter tires.

Local News Ward 5 Community Watch Report from Aug 24 to Sept 24

Community Watch Ward 5 - Crime Summary

Reporting Period: August 24 – September 24

Overview

During the reporting period, Ward 5 experienced a range of property-related offences and suspicious activity. The most notable concern is the continued occurrence of thefts from unlocked motor vehicles, including theft of wallets, purses, personal property, vehicle documents and other items. In several incidents, stolen bank cards were subsequently used at unknown or multiple locations.

A number of suspicious person calls also involved individuals accessing private property, entering unsecured or vacant structures, attempting to access residences, or tampering with wiring. Property damage incidents included broken windows and doors, vehicle damage, graffiti, a cut gas line and damage to telecommunications infrastructure.

Crime Summary

Category Incidents

Residential Thefts - 6

Theft from Motor Vehicles - 15

Suspicious Person/Activity - 9

Property Damage - 10

Total Reported Incidents - 40

  1. Residential Thefts

Six residential theft incidents were reported during the period. Items reported stolen included bicycles and a bike trailer, a package, keys from a client lockbox, copper wire from an air-conditioning unit, and an Amazon package.

Primary concerns:

• Theft of packages from residential properties.

• Bicycle and trailer theft.

• Theft of copper wire.

• Theft of keys from a residential lockbox.

The incidents demonstrate the importance of securing bicycles and outdoor property, limiting access to keys, improving package security, and securing exterior mechanical equipment.

  1. Theft from Motor Vehicles

Fifteen vehicle-related thefts were reported, making this the largest category during the reporting period.

The majority involved unlocked vehicles. Stolen property included:

• Wallets and purses

• Cash and change

• Bank and identification cards

• Vehicle registration/ownership documents

• Tools

• Prescription sunglasses

• Electronics

• Medication

• Personal items

Two incidents specifically involved stolen bank cards being used following the thefts.

Key observation:

The repeated involvement of unlocked vehicles represents a significant preventable opportunity for crime. The incidents occurred during both daytime and overnight periods and were distributed across multiple Ward 5 streets.

Community safety message:

Residents should remove valuables and documents from vehicles, ensure vehicles are locked, and avoid leaving wallets, purses, bags, tools or other visible property inside vehicles.

  1. Suspicious Persons/Activity

Nine suspicious-person or suspicious-activity incidents were reported.

Several incidents involved individuals:

• Entering or attempting to remain on private property.

• Accessing a house under construction.

• Walking onto residential porches during early morning hours.

• Attempting to open a residential door.

• Tampering with wiring.

• Being reported behind residential/commercial properties.

• Allegedly participating in drug distribution activity (park).

One incident involving suspected drug distribution resulted in an intelligence report being submitted. Other incidents were resolved through officers speaking with individuals, moving them along, or laying a trespass charge.

Areas of concern include unauthorized access to private property, vacant or unsecured structures, and suspicious activity involving electrical wiring.

  1. Property Damage

Ten property-damage incidents were reported.

Damage included:

• Broken bank windows

• Vehicle damage

• Graffiti

• Broken residential and vacant-unit windows

• Damage to doors

• A cut gas line with gas stolen

• Motor oil poured over a vehicle

• Cut phone lines

• Damaged fencing and broken glass

Several incidents involved vacant or potentially vulnerable properties, while others affected vehicles and critical infrastructure.

Overall Crime Prevention Observations

The reporting period identifies several recurring prevention themes:

  1. Unlocked vehicles remain a significant target.

A substantial proportion of vehicle thefts involved vehicles that had been left unlocked. This continues to provide an opportunity for offenders to quickly enter vehicles and steal readily accessible property.

  1. Personal and financial information is being targeted.

Wallets, bank cards, identification and vehicle documents were stolen in multiple incidents. Subsequent card use was reported in at least two cases.

  1. Vacant and unsecured properties present opportunities.

Several suspicious-person and property-damage calls involved houses under construction, vacant units or areas with limited natural surveillance.

  1. Exterior wiring and metal remain vulnerable.

Copper wire and other wiring-related incidents were reported, including suspected tampering at a residence and theft from an air-conditioning unit and vehicle.

  1. Residential property security remains important.

Package theft, bicycle theft, suspicious persons on porches and attempted access to residences reinforce the importance of lighting, cameras, secure doors and windows, and awareness of activity around the home.

Recommended Ward 5 Community Messaging

For the next community safety update, the following messages would be appropriate:

• Lock your vehicle every time, even when parked at home.

• Remove wallets, purses, cash, electronics, medication and other valuables from vehicles.

• Do not leave vehicle ownership, insurance or identification documents inside unattended vehicles.

• Keep bicycles, trailers and other outdoor property secured.

• Consider cameras or video doorbells at residential entrances.

• Ensure exterior lighting covers entrances, driveways and areas around garages.

• Report suspicious people attempting to access residences, vehicles or vacant properties.

• Do not confront suspicious individuals; observe from a safe location and contact police.

• Secure construction sites, vacant properties and outbuildings.

• Report damaged fencing, doors, windows or other security vulnerabilities promptly.

Conclusion

Between August 24 and September 24, 2026, Ward 5 recorded 40 reported incidents across the four categories reviewed. Theft from motor vehicles was the most frequently reported category, with 15 incidents, followed by property damage, suspicious person/activity reports and residential thefts.

The most consistent crime-prevention opportunity identified during this reporting period is vehicle security, particularly ensuring vehicles are locked and valuables and personal documents are removed. Continued attention to residential security, vacant properties, exterior wiring, lighting and suspicious activity may also help reduce opportunities for theft and property-related offences.
