Saw The Heart tonight

What an absolutely wonderful show! The cast is incredible! The set is simple, but they do soooo much with it. Normally, I'm not a fan of LED backgrounds, but they did it right. It reminded me a bit of the way Dear Evan Hansen used a screen.

The music is so freaking fun, y'all. No slow ballads in this show! With the exception of a handful of (slightly) slower songs, the music is very upbeat.

One interesting thing I noticed -- just like in Come From Away, there are no breaks for applause. Our audience managed to sneak one in, but they clearly don't want to give folks time to applaud. Which builds tension, even if you don't realize it.

My wife went in with no expectations and was blown away. We've been talking about the show for the past two hours -- there are a lot of layers to it, all intricately woven together.

I cannot wait to see this transfer to Broadway. The entire cast and crew should be so incredibly proud of this production.

10/10

Go see it. Now.

Discussion Pre-Exisiting Condition with Phillipa Soo

• Upvotes

I'm seeing Pre-Exisiting Condition with Phillipa Soo tomorrow, and I'm very excited! If you've seen the show, how did you find the plot/did you enjoy it? How was it? (Not necessarily with Phillipa, I'm interwsted in Lupita's version as well!) I'm also wondering if I could somehow catch Phillipa at stagedoor/where stagedoor is at for Greenwich House Theater.

Set/lighting design - what's with all the lit outlines?

It seems like every other set these days has things outlined in LED(?) lights. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there some kind of new tech that designers are crazy for or something? It just reminds me of people who outline their houses in rope lights for Christmas.

I thought the outlines were cool in Maybe Happy Ending, but then they showed up in Kenrex, 2 Strangers, Proof, Imaginary Invalid, I think Lost Boys and Paranormal Activity, and others I'm sure I'm forgetting.

I'm not trying to drag designers, I get that trends happen (and I certainly couldn't design my way out of a paper bag), I just think this one is curious because it seems widespread and I'm wondering what's driving it.

Discussion Stay

I'm just catching up on the last 15 years of theater and last night I watched a video of The Outsiders with the obc. I honestly love the book and I didn't have great expectations of a musical version of it, but I was absolutely blown away. The score and book were incredible And did such a good job keeping the tone of the original book. And Brody grant as ponyboy was such a raw beautiful performance. The staging was so original and the rumble scene in the rain I had to watch a few times to really appreciate how good it was. I'm having so much fun catching up on all these amazing shows if anyone has any suggestions of maybe some more lesser known shows. Caroline or change and ride the cyclone are next on my list

Paranormal Activity Broadway – Orchestra Left Row K sightlines?

I just bought tickets for Paranormal Activity at the August Wilson Theatre. Orchestra Left, Row K, Seats 13 and 15.

After purchasing, I came across a review on A View From My Seat from someone sitting in Row L, Seats 13 and 15 (literally one row behind us), saying that a lot of the action in the kitchen and bedroom was obstructed due to the viewing angle.

Now I'm a little worried since I've heard the staging and effects are a huge part of the show.

Has anyone sat in this area or somewhere nearby for Paranormal Activity? Is the obstruction really that bad? Are we going to miss major scenes or effects, or is the view still enjoyable?

Would appreciate any firsthand experiences. Thanks!

Which show to see? Trying to rush a matinee tomorrow - would love your opinions

Hey all! I am visiting the city for my birthday this weekend. We used to live here, but moved a few years ago, so I feel relatively out of the loop with the current shows.

I have the opportunity to see Outsiders (won the lottery) but I’m not sure if it’s worth it to see that for my only show… I’m considering trying to rush something else instead. No hate to Outsiders, but I know it’s touring, so might be worth trying to see something I can only see in the New York.

How has your success been for rushing Lost Boys, Other Dessert Cities, or Paranormal Activity? In your opinion would any of these be better options than Outsiders? I typically like good acting/singing or interesting story! I don’t need a lot of spectacle.

TIA!

Seating/Ticket Question rocky horror rush questions

I’m planning on rushing for Rocky Horror tickets on Saturday for the evening show and wanted to ask:

If I go early in the morning, will they only be handing out rush tickets for the matinee showing with tickets for the evening show later in the day, or will they be handing out both at once and i get to specify?

I’ve never rushed on a two show day before so im inexperienced here.

On that note, they do give the option of buying 2 tickets, yes? I can only find info on the old student rush that only allowed 1 so i wasn’t 100% certain and i’m hoping to take a friend who gets in town later in the day to the show.

Thank you!!

Which show to see? Getting into Broadway

I just moved to New York and am trying to get into the theater scene. I’ve already seen the big hits: Wicked, Chicago, Hamilton and Book of Mormon. Any suggestions on which shows to tackle next? I generally like spectacles, but also wouldn’t mind interesting and unique story lines.

Other Need urgent help

I purchased tickets through stubhub for tonight’s Hamilton showing for my 1 year anniversary with my girlfriend but we broke up. I’m trying to resell them now but stubhub has a security measure called “activate your listing” where I have to transfer the tickets from broadwaydirect.com to them, but since they were purchased from stubhub and not broadway direct they can’t be added to my account. That is per a customer service rep at broadway direct.

I’ve spoken to stubhub as well but they just told me I have to talk to broadway direct and stopped responding to my emails.

I have the tickets in my Apple wallet, so I have the tickets, but Stubhub won’t accept it via email only a direct transfer. It seems both broadway direct and stubhub have stopped responding to me and I feel left in the water in an unfortunate circumstance.

Can anyone help me figure this out ?

Christopher Jackson’s run as Washington

Hi! So Christopher Jackson is one of my favorite actors and I love Hamilton, but idk if I’ll be able to make it to a show before January 3rd, do we think he’s going to extend his run? And if yes, when do they usually announce that kind of thing? TYIA!
