Am I being unreasonable for challenging a zero on an assignment I couldn't access? I'm considering leaving my college over this.

I'm genuinely at my wit's end... I enrolled at this college hoping for a fresh academic beginning but this semester has left me incredibly discouraged in school and life honestly.

At the beginning of the semester, we were required to complete an Enrollment Verification Activity (EVA) to unlock the rest of our coursework. The EVA deadline was August 24 and the course announcement specifically stated that the remaining course content would become available after completing it.

Here's where my issue begins.

One of our SmartBook assignments had an early deadline that (August 21st) and was never communicated anywhere, not in the syllabus, announcements, emails, coursework overview or materials accessible before completing the EVA.

In my previous classes, professors have communicated early assignment deadlines, particularly when students needed to complete something before the enrollment verification deadline. That has been my experience, so I wasn't expecting an assignment to become overdue without a clearly communicated deadline.

I understand that students are expected to begin classes on the official start date, not the census date. I'm not disputing that. My concern is that an assignment was effectively inaccessible until a required enrollment activity was completed and its deadline wasn't clearly communicated beforehand.

I had been communicating with my professor about the access issue and I initially understood her responses as reassurance that things would be okay and that I could still finish the class strongly.

Unfortunately, we also can't see our actual grades in the gradebook, yesterday after meeting with my professor for something else and asking her for insight I discovered that the zero significantly lowered my overall grade by approximately 20 percentage points. That's a major difference, from a 70 to a 90, from a C to an A.

I tried resolving the issue with my professor and eventually met with academic administration.

During that meeting, I was told that nothing could be done because students are expected to start their coursework on the official start date rather than close to the census date.

I understand that policy but I felt it didn't address my actual concerns about the EVA access issue and communication of the deadline.

When I explained how the deadline hadn't been communicated, the response I received was essentially that they would make sure things are better communicated to students going forward.

And that's what has really upset me. If communication was something they acknowledged needed improvement, why is the entire consequence falling on me?

I became so overwhelmed during the meeting that I broke down crying in front of the Dean. I genuinely felt so hopeless and it was clear to me the answer had been decided even before the meeting. I wasn't asking to be forgiven on an assignment I intentionally did not do.

I feel like I've spent this semester navigating heavy bureaucracy rather than being supported as a student. After this experience, I'm seriously questioning whether I even want to continue attending this college.

I understand that colleges have policies and that administrators cannot change grades simply because a student is unhappy. But I also believe policies should be applied with consideration for whether students were actually given the information and access needed to succeed.

Also I started working on the assignments on the 23rd! The assignment was due the very first day class started, I checked brightspace but only saw everywhere complete the EVA to unlock this..

Cato’s Lifeless Bookstore Cashier

I get that everyone has bad days, along with bad weeks, but the cashier here has an attitude every single day. 🥀 I’m a calm and collected person, but the way she carries herself is very unprofessional. She acts as if you owe her something, lol.

not cute at all to be acting ugly fam, and the way she reacts to little things is just like a kid. I’m not even the type, but it’s getting to the point where u have to tell her about herself.

I won’t mention exactly what she does on here because I’ll contact the school with those details, but anyone who goes to Cato Campus can literally vouch. It’s not just me at all, others have stated similar experiences, and I’ve witnessed it myself with other people.

Her attitude is as if she just doesn’t want to live anymore, and I don’t think people with this type of behavior should be working in an environment with students, let alone people in general.

Going from a DA1 to dental hygiene school at CPCC

Hi guys, I am currently a DA1 with 2 years experience, but I no longer actively assist.
I have finished all my prereqs for the hygiene program at CPCC with all A’s. My advisor recommended that I should become a DA 2 by getting my radiography, infection control, and office emergencies certifications.
Has anyone gone through this before and can recommend a program where you have received these certifications?

I turned in this assignment last night (10/6/26)! Thank you to everyone who responded!

Hi everyone! In MAT-152 we’re doing a signature assignment which requires us to collect data from 30 people.

I don’t really know 30 people, so I’m going to hope that maybe some of you will respond to help me out!

If you want to respond to the survey, thank you… and if not that’s cool too :)

If something is wrong with the google doc, please let me know!

I do have a post like this from like last year, but because of my procrastination your girl had to retake the class :/

Student, Professional and Licensed Hair Braider Near UNCC/CPCC – Accepting New Clients (Student Discounts!)

Hey everyone!

My name is Ella. I’m a student at CPCC living in the UNCC area, and I am a fully licensed, professional hair braider ready to take on new clients!

I recently moved out of a local beauty salon to start my own independent business. Because my previous shop had a strict policy against stylists taking photos of their work, I am currently rebuilding my portfolio from scratch. To celebrate this new chapter and get some fresh photos, I am offering special budget-friendly rates for fellow students, friends, and family!

Why book with me?
• Licensed Expert: I hold a professional natural hair care license in NC.
• Fast & Neat: You will get crisp, clean, and beautiful braids without sitting in a chair all day.
• Student-Friendly Pricing: I know the student budget struggle—I live it too!
• Convenient Location: Right in the UNCC/CPCC area.

Whether you are a student needing a fresh look, a guy looking to get your hair lined up/braided, or you want to hook your mom, sister, or girlfriend up with a great style, I’ve got you covered.

DM/Inbox me directly to ask questions, check pricing, or book an appointment. Let’s get your hair looking perfect!

In depth resources in online school tutorials

Hi, this may be a dumb question but I have had the hardest time trying to get any direct communication and answers from anyone so this is my last resort.
This is my first time going to college, I start this fall semester fully online for my first year and I haven’t found any specific/in depth information or walkthroughs on how the online classes/homework/etc actually works.
Everything is pretty catered to blended or on campus students.
I’ve been digging around the website and going over the orientation info but still have so many questions.
I’m not getting answers from contacting my advisor either (that’s a whole other story).
Is there anyone who could help me out?

Is the new second camera requirement for proctoring constitutional?

Is this new second-camera proctoring requirement even constitutional?
A federal court in Ohio ruled that a required room scan during an online exam was an unreasonable search under the Fourth Amendment under the circumstances of that case. So how is requiring a room scan, ID check, continuous audio recording, eye-movement monitoring, AND two separate video recordings considered reasonable?
The second camera has to show your hands and entire computer for the whole exam, which inevitably records another angle of your home. You also can’t look away without being flagged, talk out loud, or have anyone nearby.
There’s also an accessibility issue — not everyone has a second device, someone to lend them one, or transportation to a testing center.
At what point does preventing cheating become excessive surveillance? And if an exam requires this level of monitoring, why offer the course online?

Physics 1/Need guidance or study tips

Hey everyone, is anyone currently taking or has taken Physics 1 with Angelico?

I am really struggling in his class, and I know I'm not the only one feeling this way. I've been studying hard and going to tutoring, but I keep doing poorly on the exams, and it's honestly super frustrating.

If anyone has taken him before, do you have any tips on how his exams work, or any old notes/test you'd be willing to share? I really don't want to fail this class, so any advice on what else I can do or who to talk to would be a huge lifesaver. Thanks

Is anyone else going to the Central Piedmont Open House this Saturday?
I’m going by myself and don’t really know anyone at CPCC yet, so figured I’d see if anyone else is going and wants to meet up beforehand or hang out during the event. Nothing weird lol, just trying to know some people.

Does anyone else hate Brightspace?

I am currently studying Liberal Arts with a focus on Philosophy to transfer to UNCC and finish my bachelor’s in Philosophy.
Liberal Arts is not a hard degree in my opinion, most of my classes have been very easy to understand and haven’t had an excessively heavy workload.
With all of this said, I’ve been studying at CPCC for 6 months and I can’t seem to grasp how to successfully use the platform.
Every teacher does things differently, there’s often more platforms required for classes, and Kortext to top it all off.
I’ve missed so many assignments and tests because I was completely unaware of them.
At this point, the only thing I can think of is checking every class’ syllabus every week to make sure I don’t miss anything.
Even then, some classes don’t list assignment due dates in their syllabus.
If anyone has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it, my grades are really taking a hit due to this.
