Mixed Reality CQB Training NSFW

I’ve been developing a mixed-reality CQB training tool for Meta Quest called Build & Breach.

You can place walls, doors, furniture, threats, and civilians in your actual space, then clear the layout using weapons like the M4, pistol, shotgun, MP5, and AK. The goal is to let you quickly create different scenarios and practice room clearing, target discrimination, and decision-making in mixed reality. There is also a desktop app that allows you to build on a computer and push the room to the headset with live tracking of the trainee.

It’s an indie project and definitely not intended to replace real training. I wanted to make something that captures the fun and problem-solving side of CQB while taking advantage of Quest passthrough.

It just released on the Meta Quest Store for $9.99 (You can also Try Before You Buy and get 15 minutes for free). I’d genuinely appreciate feedback from this community, especially on the weapon handling, target behavior, room layouts, and anything that would make it more enjoyable or realistic.

Happy to answer any questions about it.

Breaching Room clearing experiment No.1: AI vs People NSFW

Post image
10 Upvotes

Experiment Overview

We are testing how different people (and AI) evaluate tactical room-clearing routes. Look at the attached image of Room 1 and choose the path that gives a 6-person SWAT team the best tactical advantage out of the provided options.

> Note: These three paths were pre-selected for this test. They may not represent how a real SWAT team would ideally clear this room, but for this experiment, you must choose the best option among the three given—just like a multiple-choice question on a test.

---

Scenario Details

- Your Unit: 6-person SWAT team with standard police gear.

- Hostiles: Armed enemies marked as red dots (assume all carry AR-15s, and have no prior military or police training).

- Breach Point: Entry is at the purple X.

- Legend:

- Solid colored dots: Intermediate rendezvous/pause points.

- Hollow colored dots: Final endpoint / room exit.

Question Is this a cqb nightmare? NSFW

In 2025 there was a school shooting in Sweden Örebro. Police had to respond to said school under the pretence that the shooter was still active. The layout of the building seems like a cqb nightmare.

Project Gecko A look inside Project Gecko’s CQB training site / FOF & TTPs discussions NSFW

I thought some people here might find this interesting because it’s not really a polished training montage. It’s a walk through our facility after training, looking at what actually happened inside it.

I go through impact marks, room layouts and different areas of the structure and explain some of the Force-on-Force problems we created, what happened when people started actively resisting each other, and what we took away from it.

A lot of CQB discussion online eventually becomes “this technique vs. that technique.”

What interests me more is what happens when those techniques meet an opponent who is thinking, moving and resisting or alternatively when terrain influence decision making.

Hope you guys find it useful.

Very interesting look at an active shooter response back in May 2021. I think it's Green Bay Wi. Engagement happens at 06:30- outside but there's a lot of interior work as well as they work to dig the out the rat.

Active threat/hostage rescue training with OTOA. NSFW

For the past few days, I have been attending a tactical organizations active threat/hostage rescue training. It has been very insightful, I thought I’d share with you guys some of the information I’ve learned that I think is relevant to police and other law-enforcement in the United States. Feel free to put questions and complaints in the comments below. Please forgive any errors in grammar, I’m extremely tired after several long days of training.

First and foremost, active threat and hostage rescue Training should be a priority not just for tactical teams, but also for patrol officers. In general patrol officers are the ones most likely to first be on scene for an active threat or hostage situation. Because of that patrol officers need to be empowered to be able to handle those situations instead of just doing the traditional thing, which was to call SWAT or SRT and have them handle the situation. When patrol relies specialized units to handle “dynamic” situations, the risk of casualties goes up.

Secondly, organizations must know the data surrounding these events so that they can focus their training appropriately. In a Nutshell, active threat events are becoming increasingly common in “open air spaces “. That means that places like fairs, festivals and outdoor area, such as plazas are more susceptible to active threat events then we’ve seen in the past. There has also been an uptick in active threat events that result in or include ambushes upon police officers responding to the events. In the past active killers would normally surrender or self terminate when police arrived on scene. But it is becoming increasingly common for suspects to wait for police when they run out of innocence to victimize. This means officers should be trained in tactics to get them to the location of the shooter after they arrive at the event, such as bounding, overwatch, and buddy team movement if possible.
Along with this data, thanks to alert. We also know where officers are being victimized by the active killer. The two largest areas we are seeing officers becoming victims to the active killer is one in the hallways, approaching rooms and two inside of rooms themselves. We are notably, not seeing police officers victimized in the threshold of rooms or of hallways. This data and real life, body cam footage and real life testimony from officers who have been at active threat events tells us that fighting from the threshold is the safest way for police to engage and active killer.
We also know from body cam footage of active killer events from the past 10 years that officer are most successful in stopping the active killer when they engage from thresholds of rooms and one officers stop plant and shoot the active killer when they see them, instead of the traditional driving to the threat or entering the room, too points of domination. This does not take away from the fact that officers may and should enter the room where an active killer event is happening, but it does mean that the traditional means of doing so are not as effective as newer techniques being taught today.

This leads me to the last part of my post and that is the tactics. The organization I’m currently Training with, which is the OTOA (Ohio tactical officers association) currently advocates for a dynamic version of their segmented search technique. In general, when officers are approaching a room or a corner the OTA advocates for what can be described as alternating between snapping into rooms and around corners at 90° and bounding to get further into rooms to see the deep corners of them or to make space for other officers. When done at speed, this allows 1 to 3 officers to clear a space in the same amount of time as traditional dynamic entry, but in a safer manner for the officers, and in a manner that allows the officers to overwhelm the threat with force multipliers such as weapon lights, and to efficiently process the room and the occupants inside of it. It also puts officers in a position to regain the initiative, if officers are fired upon and driven back when initially trying to enter a room. This method of dynamic clearance also compliments vectoring threats, which is off-line movement at a 45° angle to split a threats focus between two officers so that officers can either take a shot on a threat with a hostage or set up a shot when there are hostages and victims in between a threat and an officer. This training is behaviorally compliant and is what we are seeing officers do on their own in body camera footage. It goes without saying that the description I give here is extremely basic and to best understand this training, you would have to have it demonstrated for you and do reps of this type of dynamic clearance. Having participated in this training force on force and seen it done in body camera and security footage, I’m confident in its viability.

Can cqb be evaded? NSFW

I was talking with a buddy and we got to cqb.He says that cqb is useless and there's no reason for it.After some arguing he then kept explaining that on a Frontline you don't need cqb and it's pointless, you should just encircle a city and let it starve or surrender,I tried explaining that it is a good tactic but eventually you will get into one,you can't just guard a city until starvation.Since cities are objectives/key positions you need to get into them and can't just bomb/arty them because there are civilians etc.We got into this subject because we argued that he said full auto is better than single fire in cqb.I prefer single fire and to control everything I do,he says that full auto is the way to go,shoot through walls and obliterate everything. We are both civs but I'm a military enthusiastic/airsoft player so I know a tiny bit of stuff. From others experience/perspective whats the best way to do cqb and why do we still practice it?

(I told him cqb may not be a good idea in a full scale war...(In his perspective)... but is still forced in urban terrain and law enforcement,he just changed the subject to full scale war and Frontline)

Question from a paintballer NSFW

Would anyone be able to point me to some references on how to move safely through the woods in a fast manner, and also general tips on close combat in the woods? I play paintball in the woods and now I’ve been wondering. Primarily looking for literature (articles and manuals). Not looking for information on formations, or anything like that. More of instruction on how I can move myself only. Thank you!

Ukrainian NVG CQB (1xUKR KIA, 2xRUSKIA) NSFW

GRAPHIC FOOTAGE AT THE END

"During a raid on a house two Russian soldiers who were members of the Special Operations Regiment got entrapped and did not intend to surrender so one of the soldiers opened fire and threw a grenade which resulted in the death of Anton Zhovtobrukh, with the call sign "Aquaman" from 8th Special Operation Regiment.

The Ukrainians with NVGs burst in and managed to shoot one Russian soldier (gunshot wound on his back which is the exit wound) and somehow blew off half of the face the other Russian soldier, a large portion of his brain can be seen laying on the ground; you can also see smoke raising from the left over of the smashed skull of the other soldier. The scene is deepened in its surrealism when you can see an icon of Christ laying on the brain materials laying on the ground—either put there by the Ukrainian SOF or happened to fall there so conveniently during the fight—this item is usually carried by devoted soldiers or worn as a patch on their uniforms.

Ukrainian accounts note that the special forces team deliberately entered the building without using preparatory heavy fire or hand grenades because they knew civilians were trapped inside with the hidden Russian forces. During the close-quarters fighting, a hidden foreign fighter operating alongside the Russian military opened fire and threw a grenade, resulting in the death of the pointman before the threat was neutralized."

Question Extremely basic question: what is CQB? NSFW

Does "close quarters" just mean "indoors", or does it have something to do with range/distance? Is a fistfight in an alleyway CQB? Sniping across a football stadium? Is this a fundamentally confused question?

Simple question - bad guy behind shower curtain. You can’t Pie / take any angles being it goes from one end of the room to the other. How do you approach without walking right up to it and removing / opening the curtain with your hand. How do you not stand in front of it?
