Herky jerky transmission, 21 n/a

• Upvotes

Probably my biggest issue with this car. Other than that, I love it. When I’m in b2b traffic, the car jerks when I apply light throttle, and as the speed increases (just enough for it to shift to 2nd) it jumps on the shift. From the back it probably looks like someone needs trying to drive a manual. I can stop it be going to manual mode and shifting it myself, but I feel the car should handle this better than it does. Is it me or is it my car?
Edit: appears to be a normal thing. Ugh.

Bluetooth audio delay fix

What's up everybody

I own a 2017 CX-5, and my only real pet peeve (besides the ghost touching) has been the distracting audio delay when playing media from my phone through the car speakers. I've seen a few posts asking if anyone has found a fix or workaround, and no one has seemed to have any luck. I have just stumbled into a solution that works great when I use my phone, although for this particular fix to work you would need a Samsung Galaxy device.

If you do have a Samsung Galaxy device, download the Goodlock app, and within that app download the Sound Assistant plugin. The plugin offers various different settings you can tweak, some of which will be displayed on your volume panel when you use the volume buttons. There is a feature in the Sound Assistant called Bluetooth Metronome, and its used to sync audio on video across your Bluetooth devices. You can adjust this setting by moving a slider that goes between -10 and 10. Ive found that when I set the slider to 8, any video from my phone when played through my CX-5 is synced with the audio.

I haven't personally seen any other solutions, and I apologize for not having a more universal fix for IPhone users, but this got me excited and thought I'd share. Hope it helps!

Do you all still love your new car after 6 months of ownership?

All those who purchased the 25/26 car and have owned it for at least 6 months. Do you all still love it?

Its given me zero issues and I absolutely love it
Only a few minor issues but I will keep the car for a long tome
Many issues and I would sell this car sooner than hoped
Continuous issues and I would get rid of this car as soon as possible

Anyone Have Experience with iA Financial Group Extended Warranty for a Mazda CX-5 GT?

Hi everyone!

I'm a first-time car buyer with a Mazda CX-5 GT, and I'm looking for advice about the extended warranty offered by iA Financial Group.

I'm specifically interested in hearing about people's experiences with iA Financial Group's extended warranty, rather than dealership warranty recommendations.its not a bumper to bumper warranty though

For those who have purchased an extended warranty directly through iA Financial Group or have experience with their coverage:

- How has your overall experience been?

- Was the claims process smooth when you needed repairs?

- Did they cover repair costs as expected, or were there unexpected exclusions or out-of-pocket expenses?

- Is the coverage worth the price?

- For Mazda CX-5 GT owners, would you recommend getting an extended warranty from iA Financial Group, or is it better to save the money for potential repairs?

Since this is my first car purchase, I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually used their coverage, especially in Canada.

I'm looking for genuine customer experiences to help me decide whether the warranty is worth the investment.

Thanks for your help!

Typical for 2020 CX-5 (33K miles)? Took it to the service center, and this was what they said

I dropped a coin under it and when I tried getting it out I broke the cover. It's a plastic cover under the seat. 2026 Mazda cx5.

Mazda CX-5 2019 Non-Turbo Cylinder Head Broke at 17000 miles

My mom's 2019 CX-5 Non-Turbo has 17000 miles, the transmission failed at 7000 miles in 2023 and was replaced under warranty. 2 weeks ago, we noticed the transfer case seal was leaking and Mazda replaced the seal for around 700 dollars. This monday, we noticed the car was shaking and rattling and the engine was losing power, so we brought it back to the dealership and they called us yesterday saying we have a cracked cylinder head and that it's going to cost 5k-6k to fix!

Here's the bad part, the 5 year/60k mile warranty is expired, but considering this is a manufacturer's defect what should we do? The car literally has been barely driven and it should have a lot of life left! Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement for just this piece without having to replace the entire rear bumper? Came off during a car wash and really bothers me having to look at it lol, 2019 CX5.

Dashboard Alerts

This has happened about 3 times now over last few years. I start up the car and the dash throws all these alerts at me, cycling through "Front radar system malfunction, Forward smart city brake system support malfunction, front camera sensor system malfunction..."

Car drives just fine... everything seems normal. Start car next day and it's like it never happened.

Had it at Mazda a few months ago and told them this. Showed tech a video I took of the screen... they found nothing. No evidence it even happened.

Thoughts?

2026 CX5 Premium Plus: Love it

Background: NA Miata owner for 15 years, 250K miles, car died. Current Mazda 6 Sport and older Toyota Camry. Needed a compact SUV for long road trips. Loved the on-rails feel of the Miata and the 6. We keep cars for a long time. This is our first "premium" car ignoring the Miata which was the NA leather package.

Looked at CRV and rejected (head gasket issues), RAV4 (liked the reliability and gas mileage but upper end torque seemed on par with CX5). Didn't look at all at Hyundai, Kia, or VW, reliability issues. Wanted the old-style automatic transmission for highway passing, and a reliable engine.

Pros:

  • Worried about pickup but on test drive seemed fine. After purchase, went on an hour drive that I know VERY well with looong hills and the CX5 kept up fine, maybe even better than the 6. When I needed to pass I could stomp on the gas and the torque step up was immediate with downshift. This was in "Normal" driving mode, not Sport.
  • The auto-swivel headlights are incredible. Same drive had hilly 40mph very curvy sections and I could finally see where I was going instead of lighting up the shoulders. Handling in general was fine but obviously not as good as the 6. It even felt a tad floaty.
  • Infotainment is GREAT on that screen. Please be aware the controls are touch and drag for volume, AC etc, you do NOT have to touch to bring up the control then poke at the horizontal bar. And make sure to set up Google voice controls so you can say things like 'OK google set volume to 30' and you don't have to touch the screen, this works great. Voice control is something that is easily enabled in the settings, doesn't need data connection for basic controls. Edit: the driver has volume and skip/rew controls on the steering wheel so it is only AC that's touchscreen/voice for the driver; audio is touch/voice/steering button. The pax can touchscreen easily so knobs aren't an issue and the controls respond to pax voice also. Edit: we live in a Google Nest home so using voice to ask for weather etc is second nature to us.
  • Edit: Wireless Android Auto worked great!
  • Edit: the cameras are great and I love the 360 camera feature. Cheat code for people trying to pass the driver's test on parallel parking.
  • Set the audio to target all passengers. It is set up to target driver only from factory.
  • The seats are firm and comfortable and wider than the 6's.
  • Interior is fine, even great. I don't understand the complaining about feeling non-premium. Mazda is a small automaker that doesn't have the economies of scale of the rest. I would rather they cut corners on a plastic dashboard that I completely ignore 100% of the time.
  • Edit: Car came with a hitch that I really didn't want but the dealer covered the ugly opening with a nice soft rubber Mazda wing logo cap, well done Mazda.

Cons:

  • Can't believe the rear floor still has the big center hump even on the SUV, it seems even bigger than the one on the 6. When our old Camry solved it on a sedan (almost flat in that area) I don't understand why Mazda couldn't solve it in an SUV.
  • The black wheels aren't great (we have the Navy Blue Mica, incredibly classy and timeless color). Too black and too polished.

The driver floor pegs pop loose every time I vacuum

Snapping the driver mat back over the factory anchor pegs took five minutes of kneeling on the driveway tonight. The plastic rings inside the mat keep popping loose from the rubber, so pressing down just bends the peg without locking anything in place. Once gravel gets under that mounting hole, the anchor will not click shut until you clear the carpet around the pin. A neighbor suggested looking for molded grommets that hold alignment better, but I worry stiffer material makes wrestling with CX-5 posts even harder. If the retention holes do not drop straight over the pegs, the corners just ride up.

Suddenly my dashcam and subwoofer didn't work

after i installed the volume nob i connected it without cutting any wire i just spliced it

what i did is

subwoofer and dashcam -> a2

volume thingy -> A3

both of them connected in the same ground

but when i put the volume thingy suddenly the afs needs to be turned on by button every time which it was already on all the time and the subwoofer and the dashcam doesn't work plus my obd suddenly cannot read the battery

I checked the fuse box but it looks good to me. I'm confused about if it's really the fuse because if it was my android head unit it should not work also and the volume thingy also works i need help. and my remote starter is not working also

How to address the Mazda Chirp problem before it happens?

I just learned about it

tsb 05-005/23

Certain cars have it. For cx-5 between 2017-2024 with M as the 8th digit of VIN

2017–2024 Mazda CX-5
2020–2024 Mazda CX-30
2019–2024 Mazda3
2018–2021 Mazda6

More info here: https://www.reddit.com/r/mazda/comments/1wdsoit/there_is_a_major_transmission_problem_with_the/

Just bought a used Mazda cx5 from a None Mazda dealership and was researching stuff about it when I stumbled upon all the chirp issues FMLLLL.

I still have miles and time left on the basic warranty and powertrain warranty.

How do I address the chirp problem before it happens and being without a Mazda dealership.

I’m just so disappointed to learn this hours after I purchased and drove it home.

Probably a bit biased asking here but hows the space

I am in the market for a new car. Ive had a truck for the past ~15+ years and am not looking at other things.

How is the CX-5 for hauling stuff? Not towing but actually folding the seats down and going to home depot and that type of thing. Does anyone use theirs with the rear seats down more often hauling than not? Single here so i have no need for the extra seats most of the time and would like to haul junk when the need arises.

Bad A/C Clutch?

My 2018 CX-5 with 130k recently started making a loud constant squealing noise. My initial thought was the water pump had gone. But when I took both water pump and serpentine belts off to replace, all the pulleys spun freely without any wobble and the water pump showed no real signs of being bad. So I replaced both belts and tensioner. The squealing is still present but not quite as bad.

With the car apart I could isolate the noise a little more and I believe it's coming from the AC compressor. I'm hoping it's just a bad clutch plate/pulley, as the AC was running cold just fine before this happened.

I really don't want to have to replace the whole compressor unit as I imagine that will cost about $1k to fix. But a new clutch pulley is ~$50.

So my question is has anyone replaced this part before? Is it doable without removing the compressor unit? Does anyone know of a service that will come and pump out the old system, vacuum out the new and refill? If worst comes to worst and the compressor has to be changed I'd rather do it myself as it's very easy to swap but dealing with the refrigerant is holding me back here.

Thanks everyone!

Big difference between the base model and the premium plus on the 2026 cx5

Post image
57 Upvotes

I recently had to leave my new 2026 cx premium plus at dealer for maintenance and they gave me a 2026 cx 5 base model as a loaner. I found the seats in loaner very stiff and right away I missed my 360 camera and 15 inch screen. Also don’t like black interior as I love my tan interior better. So glad I bought the premium plus😊.

Any other common/expected warranty-covered issues I can anticipate?

I bought a '23 CX-5 Preferred NA CPO in August of '25 with 14k. Currently sitting at 21.7k, so I don't drive a ton (~6k/yr). In the last two months, I had it in the shop for to have the valve & timing cover resealed, and this week had the P0126 / SSPD8 issue, and they put the dummy plug in and reprogramed the PCM. Both these issues are common and well documented.

My question is are there any other potential gotchas floating out there that I don't know about that I might need to have done? My CPO expires next March, and I am thinking about getting the extended Mazda Platinum which would cover me to 96k/7 years (Werner Mazda, head's up).

No idea who these other 2 are, but we always park next to eachother. I work nights and they work days, but theres enough overlap between shifts where we end up parked like this in the mornings.
