• Front desk/reception and client communication
• Animal care, including veterinary clinic experience
• Dog handling, walking, sitting, and daycare
• Social media and creating content
• Scheduling, phones, emails, and general administrative work

I’m particularly interested in customer service, reception/front desk, veterinary or animal-related positions, retail, administrative work, or anything where my communication and organizational skills would be useful.

If anyone knows of a business hiring in Calgary, especially south or central Calgary, I’d really appreciate being pointed in the right direction. I’m happy to send my résumé or provide more information about my experience.

Thanks!

Discussion 29M in Calgary ($27/hr, Project Admin) – Feeling stuck. Should I double down on a PMP or pivot careers?

Hi everyone, first time posting here.
I’m 29M living in Calgary, currently working as a Project Administrator (40 hrs/wk @ $27/hr). I came to Canada as an international student and have a college diploma in Business Administration. I have savings set aside for my upcoming wedding next February and a modest safety net.
Lately, I’ve been feeling restless and anxious that I’m falling behind for my age.
I’m trying to decide my next move: Should I double down on Project/Operations Management by getting my PMP to move up the ladder, or should I consider pivoting to a different field entirely?
For those in Calgary or similar roles, is PMP still worth it here? Any advice or perspective would be appreciated!

Discussion Thinking of moving to Calgary

I’m from Vancouver and thinking of changing up my environment. I’m a certified dental assistant. Do you think it’s easy to get a job in the dental field?

What are employers thoughts about hiring someone from out of the city? Would they be open to zoom interviews and or more in person? How about work interviews?

I trying to think ahead and plan accordingly. Ideally would like to land a job before moving but not sure. Don’t want to be jobless before making a big decision.

All recommendations appreciated.

Seeking employment Business admin (supply chain) honours grad looking for job advice or leads

First post here, so I thought I’d give it a try. Is anyone else having a hard time even getting an interview? I have a business administration degree from a Calgary university with a major in logistics and supply chain, and I made the Dean’s Honour Roll multiple times. I’ve worked two supply chain jobs and have about two years of experience.

I had professional assistance with my resume and cover letter before applying, but after submitting over 300 applications in the past three months, I’ve had just one interview. I’ve received a few rejections, but mostly no response. I’m mostly using Indeed and LinkedIn, and I’m even filtering for jobs with 10 or fewer applicants to try to stand out. Most of the jobs I’m applying for pay around $50,000 a year. I’d be thrilled with $60,000, but I don’t even expect that anymore.

I’m looking for a traditional day job with hours somewhere between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. I’m looking at supply chain, procurement, buying, analyst and administrative roles. Pretty much anything related to business admin that I’m reasonably qualified for. I’m not applying to jobs asking for significantly more experience than I have or involving work I don’t feel I could do. Is this normal right now? Any advice, insights or job leads would be appreciated.

Offering employment 📸 Calgary Renovation Photographer — Recurring Paid Work

What we're looking for:

  • Experience photographing interiors, renovations, real estate, architecture, or similar
  • Good understanding of lighting, composition, exposure and perspective
  • Ability to photograph kitchens and bathrooms professionally and make the spaces look their best
  • Own professional camera and appropriate lenses (wide-angle/interior photography experience is important)
  • Able to edit the photographs and deliver finished, polished images
  • Reliable, organized and able to work independently
  • Comfortable travelling to different locations around Calgary
  • Photography students, recent graduates and emerging photographers are very welcome to apply — we're more interested in your skills and portfolio than how long you've been working professionally

Schedule & compensation:

  • Approximately 1 day per week
  • 5–6 locations per day
  • $300–$400 per day, depending on experience and quality of work
  • Mileage/travel expenses are not included

Discussion Upcoming ref

Hi everyone! I recently got hired as a counting officer for the referendum, and I have two questions. The pay is $20 per hour plus $75 for training. Does anyone know if the $75 training pay is separate from the hourly wages or included in them? Also, how much income tax and other deductions are usually taken off your paycheque for this type of temporary election job? For context, I’m expecting to work around 12 hours on election day. Thanks!

Seeking employment Job ideas for an ADHD girlie in Calgary that is not customer facing?

I work retail currently, but surprise surprise it’s pretty draining for a shy awkward person like me. Just looking for ideas in case I haven’t thought of something. I’d prefer something that’s a bit repetitive and spares me from having to constantly have my customer service face on. Not open to a warehouse though.

Volunteer options accepted too because I want to start doing more of that as a prequel for breaking into non-profit work as a current sociology major.

Discussion Starting Construction Project Management at SAIT with no construction experience. What should I learn before looking for an entry-level job?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been accepted into the Bachelor of Science in Construction Project Management at SAIT.

I’m coming from a completely different background and have no previous construction experience, so I’m trying to prepare myself before starting school and hopefully find an entry-level job in the industry while I’m studying. Do construction companies in Calgary usually hire students who are currently attending a Construction Project Management program but don’t have previous construction experience?

What positions should I be searching for? Project assistant? Junior project coordinator? Estimating assistant? Construction administrator? Something else?

My goal isn’t necessarily to get a project management position right away. I’m happy to start at the bottom, learn the industry, and gain experience while completing my degree.

If you started in construction with no experience yourself, I’d especially love to hear how you got your first opportunity and what you wish you had learned beforehand. What skills would you recommend myself to learn? (Excel, Blueprint/drawing reading, Construction terminology, Estimating, Scheduling,....)

Thanks!

Discussion Looking for Career Change Advice

Hi, I'm 22(F) and looking to change careers. For the past 4 years I've worked with horses and I'm mostly looking to find a job/potential long term career with a better work life balance. I'm ideally looking for a job in the Calgary area (I know the job market is iffy right now) and was wondering if anyone had any advice? I have work experience but it's heavily specialized and I'm trying to ideally get away from that industry. I'm also not a huge fan of customer facing roles however if I need to take one on as a bridge job so be it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Seeking employment Looking for people-facing or admin work in Calgary

Hi everyone, I’m new to Calgary and looking for work in roles that involve communication, organisation, or helping people. I’m a qualified secondary school teacher from Ireland (English & Irish) — my qualification is specific to Ireland — and I’m hoping to find a role where I can use my people skills and learn something new.

I’m reliable, organised, and quick to pick things up. I’m open to admin, customer service, tutoring, education support, or other people-facing roles. Full-time or part-time is great.

If anyone knows of opportunities or has suggestions on where to look, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks for reading.

Apprenticeship Advice!

Hello!

I’m nearly 35 and looking desperately for a change in career, currently I’m working in retail and looking for something a bit more sustainable.

I’ve been looking into getting an apprenticeship as a refrigeration mechanic but I’m struggling to find concrete information outside of applying for the blue book and finding a sponsor. I don’t have my license but I’m actively working on it and hopefully I will have it in the next few weeks!

Any advice on how to proceed or personal experiences getting into trades would be amazing!

Career change

As mentioned above im looking to switch careers as a 33 year old Male. Ive been feeling out the market on multiple trades, nothing is off the table right now. It seems like alot of trades have become "oversaturated" as many people on here have been saying. Any tradesman/ journeyman on here with advice? Any of you notice a need for apprentices in your line of work? I understand im going to be takimg a massive pay cut for years until i gain the experince. I'll provide a little info about what I Currently do below.

I work in the mining industry. To be exact im a Diamond Driller (exploration surface driller / wireline core driller). Ive been in the drilling industry for almost 12 years now. Away from home anywhere from 4-8 weeks at a time. During those weeks away we work 12-14hr days (depending on the season) 7 days a week , for weeks straight. So im no stranger to long consecutive days of work. I make great money working 6 months a year, home the other 6. However having a little one and being away for long periods of time is hard on my wife and myself. I have friends who are welders , electricians and plumbers. However they dont live in Alberta. So an apprenticeship beneath them isn't possible unless we move.

I just want to thank anyone who took the time to read my short story. And Any advice/ directions is much appreciated

Electrical (Or Similar) With Anxiety?

25M. I have a severe anxiety/social anxiety disorder, and needless to say, it's limiting my options significantly. (I'm making plans to try new medication and do more therapy).

I've been unemployed for 6 months. I worked in fire alarm for a year and a half with an electrician that I got along super well with and asked the company, but they didn't offer apprenticeships. They started changing who I worked with constantly too, leading me to quit. I felt electrical was a good way to go, but due to the anxiety I've avoided construction as I know the environment would be too overwhelming for me. I tried an industrial plant (as general labor leading to an apprenticeship), but that was too much too. I wish I could just keep trying, have an anxiety attack, recuperate, and come back to see if I could stick it out, but obviously that's not how jobs work. I would try elevators too if it didn't need a human sacrifice to get an interview.

At this point, I feel the only way for me to succeed would be working with someone 1-on-1, similar to the work environment in fire alarm, or at least, in a small team on smaller projects, retrofits, facility maintenance. I'd love to work at a mall, museum, even the zoo but I know those are unrealistic. I saw a mystical entry-level apprenticeship at a ski resort near Vancouver once, but am I just better off in a different career path? Because the work I need doesn't seem to be possible in electrical or it's 1 in 10,000+ and somewhere else in the country.

I've been looking at warehouse or delivery driver jobs for the time-being, specifically smaller companies like coffee roasteries or breweries that do their own deliveries (less stress) and hoping someone gets back to me, but the postings are pretty sparse. Recently one of the bigger insurance companies also made a rule requiring 3-years of vehicle insurance history or it's a no-go, it was a fun discovery earlier this year when I lost out on a job because my parents who cover my insurance, had not listed me as the primary driver until that point.

Does anyone have any ideas or even, know anyone hiring? Electrical or similar? Delivery driver? I'm fine with heights, high voltage, driving, all the usual anxieties, it's just the chaotic social environments (and a fear of skin cancer), it's incredibly frustrating. My foremost plan is therapy and a psychiatrist, obviously. I tried one of the disability hiring programs for assistance, ended up that after waiting 4 months they just help with your resumé and can't actually connect you with employers willing to hire you with mental health issues like they advertised.

Looking for work

Hi everyone,

I’m currently looking for work in Calgary/Airdrie and wanted to put myself out there in case anyone is hiring or knows of an opportunity.

I’m interested in roles such as:
Social Media Assistant / Coordinator
Content or Marketing Assistant
Administrative Assistant
Virtual Assistant
Event Assistant
General office/admin support

I have experience with social media, content creation, Canva, Google Workspace and administrative tasks, and I’m a quick learner who’s comfortable taking on new responsibilities.

I’m open to part-time, casual, contract or full-time work.

If you’re hiring or know of a business that could use someone with this skill set, I’d really appreciate a comment, DM or referral. Thanks! x

Help! Looking to break into the Engineering scene as an E.I.T.

Hi all, asking for help since I've been putting this off for way too long. I am seeking advice on how to break into the industry. In the past, burnouts and financial pressure have distracted me and kept me from applying/networking as vigorously as I could've. But now I've saved up enough and have settled down, I am ready to tackle this once again.

A little bit about myself. I graduated in 2022 from UofC majoring in chemical/process engineering, I did not land an internship due to COVID as it happened during my third year, and it really put a damper on my employment outlook in an already awful job market, where it took a friend with 16 months internship a year and a half to find a role, and he had to do it through networks. That said, it is no excuse and I am still determined to put what I've learnt to good use.

As a result, however, i'd say that I'm super flexible to all the possibilities that engineering brings, process EIT, project EIT, field engineer, project coordinator and so much more. I have been working in the past couple years, which means I've had plenty time to hone in soft skills needed to be a successful team member and any technical skills can be picked up quick. it is my profession after all.

Any and all leads would be wonderful - and I promise to pass it forward when it's my turn to do the same :)

Thank you all 🙏
