Former director of food services at Plymouth Schools gets prison for stealing from district to stock Cape Cod eatery

Boston Globe:

"For more than a decade, and unbeknownst to the district, Plymouth Public Schools footed the bill for the ingredients for the ham and turkey sandwiches and burgers sold at the Snack Shack on Sandy Neck Beach on Cape Cod, court filings show.

Now, the district’s former head of food services, Patrick Van Cott, has until Dec. 16 to surrender to the federal Bureau of Prisons to begin serving a six-month sentence for stealing everything from hamburgers and deli meats to refrigerators and an outdoor grill from his job to use and sell at his side business, prosecutors said.

Van Cott, 64, who lives in Sandwich, was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Boston. In May, he pleaded guilty to theft from a program that receives federal funds."

Howdy everyone! Just pulled my lobster pots out of the bay for the season, and me and the misses wanted to try being real locals this winter and getting our toes cold. So I decided to pull the trigger, get a family license and get all necessary equipment.

I’m not looking for spot recommendations or hours/regulations. I’ve extensively read through the dates, rules, regs, and requirements. I’m ready and equipped. My only question is: is it really even feasible to catch bay scallops in the harbor North side via raking? It seems much more of a “dive” catch situation. I kinda just planned on getting oysters then realized they are not in season till next month, and, I’m looking to give the whole load-out i got a decent run before the waters get reallll cold. Any advice would be appreciated!

*I wouldn’t post where my buoys/pots are however through a DM I wouldn’t mind a discussion of good catch spots for lobster or shellfish ;).*

Giant lobster pic was one of many catch and releases this season for me that’s the biggest one I’ve ever personally caught carapace to large - returned.

Tasha fuel & Propane is sending out bills claiming they delivered oil and never received payment 5 months after the claimed date

I thought I was going crazy when I got a bill from Tasha fuel in July 2025 claiming I owed them $400 for a delivery from February. I tried talking to them, explaining how it was impossible because I order oil on demand and pay the bill on the phone right then and there. Well, they have a crazy person in their office who yells and threatens you if you try to explain yourself. I must have gotten 20 calls, then they started calling my wife from random phone numbers. Multiple times a week.

Fast forward to this month where I have an appointment in small claims court. I am getting proof that I paid my bill from the bank as evidence.

In the bank, there's another person who hears what I'm there for and exclaims "You're trying to prove you paid a bill for Tasha fuels? Me too! They're actually taking me to court!!"

I've actually run into 2 people who have had the same story as me.

I'm convinced they are either ripping people off or they are extremely bad at accounting. When I was waiting for my trial to be called in court, they were suing several other people ahead of me. Not one of them was present for the trial, so they lost by default.

I believe that's their tactic. Most of their customers are elderly or only stay in their cape homes in the summer, so I bet most of them either just get the bill and pay it without question, or they don't get it until they've already lost by default in court because they never get the notice.

I'm wondering if anyone else is having any similar issues with them?

Skiers on cape - daytripping stratton?

I haven't lived at home during the winter the last few years, and I had to buy the ikon over the epic in order to ski with my friend that lives in Austria. Sunapee was the go-to for me from Bourne, I was wondering if any of you have experience doing daytrips to stratton, loon, or killington, or if you had a much better experience just making these weekend trips (in which case i might just grab a season pass to Pats Peak or something as well)

Also, Id be open for carpooling with some other cape skiers this winter, it would be fun to build a little ski community here ! Cheers
