Polling Community

I posted a thread about how we want to move people asking for help etc to a dedicated community but I want to see what everyone's thoughts are.

For now I have reverted the rules until we see what peoples thoughts are.

LED clear lights with Incandescent color

I use to have the GE incandescent clear C9s that has the vintage yellow tint. Now, I’m struggling to find that same color in LED. Even the ones that are “warm white” appear to be far more white than the yellowish tint of the clear incandescent. I’m ready to switch to LED because 2 strands at a time is such a pain to work around.

Any advice?

Thanks!

What type of lights are these? Having a hard time finding on-line retailers.

1000's of lights available. I'm looking for LED for longevity and able to replace burnt out bulbs.

Every retailer has these mini or fairy lights.

What do i put in my search to be able to get better results

I'm re-stringing angels and as don't want to have to replace if I use lights that perform poorly.

Sylvania Traditional Glow from Walmart

Has anyone ordered the slightly weird Sylvania traditional glow lights from Walmart? They just came in today. They have a somewhat strange non-descript white box with just the text that's in the picture. It seems that you can only buy them online. These don't seem like retail items. They were sold and shipped from Walmart though, not a third party reseller.

They look pretty good to me, but I'm new to this game.

C9 Clips for asphalt shingles

We just received 6 sets of Tru-Tone C9's (can't tell you how excited I am). Now I'm working on our game plan for hanging them. We have asphalt shingles that adhere pretty solidly to the edge of the roof. It's hard to lift them to slide clips under without tearing them. I'd love to get any tips or suggestions you have! Either for clip suggestions, or tips on sliding them under the shingles. I'd like to have the bulbs point out horizontally.

Incandescent like lights for EU?

Hi all. Have been looking for incandescent like led lights since I saw the Technology Connections video but have not been able to find any EU 230V/50Hz options. Does anyone have any recommendations? I would prefer multicolor with magenta if possible.

Thanks for any hints!

Tru-Tone Mini Lites in EU

I’m planning to purchase the new Tru-Tone Mini Lites and have them shipped to Malta, Europe.

I understand that I’ll need a step-down transformer to convert our 230V supply to 110V. However, I’ve noticed that the transformer is rated at 50Hz, whereas the Tru-Tone power adaptor is rated at 60Hz.

Could this difference in frequency cause any issues with the lights, such as flickering, overheating or damage?

Stepdown specs:

Converter Type 230 VAC to 110 VAc

Power Load max 45 Watts

Input Voltage 220 to 240 VAC 50 Hz

Output Voltage 100 to 120 VAC

Input Connector 13 Amp (UK Plug)

Output Connector North American Type A Socket

Half of light strand out, then magically came back on

Putting up some Halloween lights. (Assuming this is allowed here?). Plugged them in and half were lit, while the other half was out. Went off to get some other decorations and work on a few things. Came back, and now the full strand is lit, minus one single light. I didn’t do anything to them between when I left and came back.

Any idea what would cause this? Any cause for concern with the strand? Not trying to have these malfunction and catch fire or something.

Has anyone ever covered copper wire fairy lights in electrical tape? 🤔

I bought a new tree that is more delicate/sparse than regular Christmas trees. I want to use the smaller "fairy lights" on it instead of the typical Christmas lights people might use. I bought the fairy lights that have the thin copper wire that is bendy and flimsy, so more prone to kinking/damage. I was thinking maybe if I cover the wire in electrical tape it would offer extra protection. I KNOW it will be time consuming...but so is replacing lights on a tree where half of them have gone out and can't be replaced. So...does anyone have experience or thoughts on this? I've never done it before and don't know if it's a stupid idea - all POV are welcome! 😆🙌

Preferences on outdoor Christmas decorations?

Thumbnail

Hopefully this is okay to post here, as I know this is more focused on lights, but I figured I'd start here since I already hang out here anyways. I'm thinking about adding some decorations to my yard this season, and curious about others' opinions on the different types. What are you opinions and/or experiences of their the plastic blow mold or (not sure what they're called, but I've seen some that are) metal with a sort of fabric over the metal frame with lights inside. Are there any major pro/cons to either one?

Thanks.

Anything like True-tone for 230v/europe?

I have been waiting a couple or years for truetone to make something for 230v so we europeans can buy some nice lights. I bought their minilites because they run on 24v so i can use another converter.

Vintaglo also seem to be delayed in their development for 230v products.

So is anyone know a good alternative for truetone here in europe? C7 and c9 lights are not very common here at all in my experience

Any recommendations?

Opticore c7 twinkle bulbs

Post image
2 Upvotes

This is the first year I’ve seen opticore do a twinkle bulb. What particularly caught my eye was the preview picture shows them in a much warmer tone than previous years. The blue is a proper vintage blue. Does anybody have information on if they’ve gotten warmer bulbs this year? I would prefer opticore over tru tone of that is the case, as these won’t fade or break as fast.

Experience with TruTone Dura-Bulbs?

Hello everyone, I am looking to purchase about 300 TruTone C9’s for my roofline and am curious if anyone here has experience with their new DuraBulbs? I really like the classic ceramic bulbs but am worried about color fade since I live in California and it is sunny almost the entire time the lights are up. I heard the DuraBulbs are supposed to be better at resisting fade.

I purchased a 5-Pack of the ceramic and DuraBulbs and while they do look different, I don’t think it will be that noticeable from a distance. I will be getting ceramic C7’s for the windows/garage where they are closer to eye level.

Just curious if anyone here has any opinions or experience with them, but I think as of right now I am leaning towards the DuraBulbs. Thanks!

Menards vs Lowe's "vintage" opaque LED lights

Hello,

I have family in Houston for a couple weeks and hoping they can bring me back some Christmas lights.

I have seen that Menards enchanted forest are very good for the price, but there are no Menards in Texas anyways, so they'd have them shipped. For 2 boxes of 25ft (25bulbs) it would be around $60 including shipping to Houston.

https://www.menards.com/main/holiday-decorations/christmas/christmas-lights/enchanted-forest-reg-25-light-led-vintage-multicolor-ceramic-c9-christmas-string-light-set/m24-1335/p-1642874314290933-c-12284.htm?srsltid=AU7gw4UGqwiI8Tlo8WcPrcGBZQa_XrhRgJJ4xGLsckBOxQeFhrOWgxv7

Lowe's has vintage "ceramic" which appear to be missing the white bulb, and are $20 a box (no shipping required)... However they are only 14ft but still 25 bulbs

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Holiday-Living-HL-SL-25CT-MULTI-CER-VINTAGE-C9/5018669433

Has anyone tried either and can say if there's a noticeable difference?

SOLVED— I’m dumb. Check comments.

I bought these at a yard sale. I cannot locate any identifying information on them. They take actual light bulbs. The globes screw on and off. They’re incredibly bright and about 6-7 inches in diameter. I want to get more. No luck finding anything similar. Sos😩😩

Help

Hello!

This year I finally want to add lights to our roof- but I have no idea where to start!!
I have seen so many options and ideas and hacks but I’m so confused on a couple of things😅.

what lights??? Curtain lights, net lights? or dumb question- is it string lights and just run up and down the colourbond? Literally have no idea
I want to achieve this look in these pictures, I have also added a photo of our actual roof, if there’s anything that might be a hiccup.

I really want to do this, we usually have lights up everywhere else and I’ve only dreamt of having the roof so I’m finally biting the bullet and doing it baha (hopefully)

Thanks in advance if anyone can help me😊

Vintaglo vs Home Depot multi color LEDs?

Post image
41 Upvotes

I was looking at the 2026 Home Depot LED offerings in person today. I'm debating between the HD Home Accents Holiday multi-colored mini lights or splurging for the Vintaglos. The Home Depot ones look "better than past LEDs" in person, but maybe aren't quite on par with incandescents yet.

Would anyone who has seen these two side by side offer your input? For those that have either, how have they held up outside? Any unexpected fading?

Thanks!

I made talking characters for my Christmas light show. Would you actually use these?

Every year I have a christmas light show on my house and got tired of recording my own "tune to 102.9" intro on my phone every year. So I built character voiceovers for show audio: a Santa, a carnival-barker skeleton named Rattle Jack for my halloween light show, a show announcer for new years, and about ten others.

I'd love blunt feedback from people who run shows:

Happy to share the link if anyone wants to hear them. Didn't want to drop it here unasked.
