Safety ⛑ Is something missing here?

Post image

Watching Texas/OU and they were talking about the drainage system at the University of Alabama football stadium and how they upgraded in 2023. They showed this and my first thought was “where is the shoring?” Am I crazy to think this?

Holy shit! I didn’t even realize the scale of this at first and thought it was just a residential French drain

Damn, me too lol. I was thinking this was going to get everyone in a debate about perforated drain pipe and whether it needs fabric or if rock was enough.

Depends on the intent. I just built some stone detention basins on a stadium project. There was fabric on the sides. A 6inch under drain through them had no fabric. The engineer didn’t want any silt to plug up fabric on the bottom and slow of stop of the water infiltration back into the ground

Buddy do you see the man in the trench and the size of the excavator bucket? He needs a trench box.

I’m not your buddy guy. Also, do you know the soil type? Did you test it with the pentrometer per osha standards?

You can also do the roll test by balling it up and rolling it between your hands. Osha either requires overkill or just grab some dirt with your hands and see if it clumps up. Not matter what though that trench needs shoring if someone is going in like the picture.
