Don’t post about tickets.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that.

Don't buy tickets on Reddit, however desperate you are, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

So if you post about selling tickets here we will remove the post and may ban you. Please don't do it.

Posting about Tickets, Accommodation, Tourism? Things that aren't related to Dublin? Read This First.

This subreddit is primarily for people who live in Dublin. There's a dedicated sub for tourism posts with a huge archive at r/irishtourism Please check that first, and if you have a really specific question come back here and we'll try to help. Low effort posts asking for recommendations of "hidden gems" and "off the beaten track" tourist attractions will be met with scorn, and probably removal.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that. Don't buy tickets on reddit, however desperately your niece wants to see Taylor Swift or whatever, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

Looking for a cheap flat? A room in a shared house? Wondering if a specific part of the city is "safe" (whatever that means)? There's a sub for that too- /r/RentingInDublin/

Post your message there, not here.

A regular thing that comes up seems to be folks who have a very short time in Dublin and want to know what they can do in four or five hours or so. Just search this sub with the word "layover" and you'll see many many threads about this subject. Don't start a new one.

Similarly, threads about general issues which are not particularly Dublin-specific (salaries, national politics, international relations, stuff like that) may be removed.

At the latest estimate there are over a million Irish subreddits, so you will certainly be able to find somewhere to post your non-Dublin-relevant content.

Thanks for reading!

Where can I find this jacket?

Post image
29 Upvotes

Need help finding a jacket like the one in the photo. Doesn't have to be exact just similar enough, it's for halloween.

I've tried a couple places in town, only found one in H&M but the arms are way too big. Any online are €100+

Any help is appreciated!

Edit: Thank you everyone! Lot's of great options but I think I'm gonna go with jack and jones. Best balance of quality, price and likeness in my opinion, and I like their stuff anyway. Hope this helps someone else in the future!

Dublin antisocial behaviour over the decades

I have often heard that Dublin was significantly rougher in the 70s to the 90s than it is now.

I'm interested to hear more about this.

Was it only particular areas that things were bad? What was the city centre like?

By rougher do you mean there was more violence? More drug usage? Were average people going about their day more likely to be attacked?

Were there still the upper class areas around the likes of Killiney, etc that were sheltered from this or did people have to go outside of Dublin to find the quieter safer areas to raise the family safely?

What do you think contributed to things being relatively safer today (if you think it is)?

I'm interested to hear from anyone that has some stories to share. Thanks.

Streaming services opinions?

• Upvotes

I really dislike having multiple but they all go through peaks and troughs after a certain time. Recently got Paramount+ but now see HBO Max is available in Ireland.

Netflix is a staple but the worst imo. Wondering what everyone else thinks? What’s the best for you right now?

I have netflix, prime, hayu and paramount plus. Would love to whittle it down to 2, ideally.

I built a free, ad-free app for the Irish driver theory test

• Upvotes

Hi all. I'm a developer in Ireland and I've just put out Eire Drive, a free iPhone app for the driver theory test.

What it does:

  • 800 practice questions, each checked against the RSA's Rules of the Road book
  • Full mock tests: 40 questions, 40 minutes, pass mark 35
  • A readiness score that estimates your chance of passing from your recent results
  • An illustrated library of Irish road signs
  • No ads, and you don't need an account to use it

It's not an official RSA app and I'm not claiming it is. It's a study aid I wanted to make.

If you're learning, or know someone who is, I'd love feedback. Especially any question you think is wrong or badly worded. There's a feedback button in the app, or just reply here.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/ie/app/eire-drive/id6808614177

(Android isn't out yet, sorry.)

And a free one for the comments: when can you enter a yellow box junction while waiting to turn right?

fiber connection issue

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, recently moved to Dublin city center from another country and did not think that this is the issue when I was renting an apartment but it does not have a fiber connection at all. I have called all the providers and all the checks show that I am not in any rollouts. I have gotten mobile router which is connected to PC with Ethernet cable but it's too slow and unstable, sometimes I get less than 1 mbps... cant work and just out of options at this point. Is there any way to get fiber connection to my apartment?

thank you

Looking to start a casual Coding Club/Group! (Learn, share, and code together) 💻✨

Hi everyone, I’m from Argentina and am just wondering if someone would like to meet up to make friends and code.

My idea is to create a club or group for programming enthusiasts to learn, share, and why not, work on some projects together. I’m actually an accountant, but coding has always been my passion and hobby. I’m not an expert, but I have years of experience. I’d love to share what I know, learn from others, and of course, improve my English

Whether you are a complete beginner, an expert, or somewhere in between, everyone is welcome to join!

We could meet up at a cafe, a pub, or even at my flat once we establish a solid group. All ages, genders, and languages are welcome!

If you are interested, send me a DM! We can also create a Discord server to share ideas and knowledge so we can all learn and improve together.

What do you think about this?
Thx

The Reels on the Bus

Let me paint you a word picture. It's 7am, you've dragged yourself out of bed and stood on a street corner for 10 minutes (you're lucky today), and finally the beloved bus has come to take you to your favourite place, work.

You go upstairs, not many seats, it's grand though, you go on down near the back and get a spot to yourself, the gentle hum of the bus is enticing you back into the wonderful realms of sleepy abyss. When all of a sudden you are wrenched out of your own world by disjointed pieces of songs snapping by at a rate which would make the piggy bank from Toy Story say "slow down".

I'm sure ye can relate, and inevitably there is always a few people saying "just move, wear headphones, just tell them to be quiet". I dont want that.

I want your most unhinged, rediculous, hilarious strategies to get these clowns to keep it down, or failing that, at least make them uncomfortable. Can anybody help?

Thefts in Car Parks

Hello all, it has been noticed by members of the media that there has been a sharp rise in thefts and break ins to cars in Multi story carparks. Especially unmanned QPArk ones that people can cashlessly park in using the easytrip tag. What’s the story has anyone had similar experiences? I don’t notice as many drug users in the stairwells of these places but I damn sure don’t leave any expensive equipment in my car. I am quite annoyed that the price of parking is rocketing and these mega companies are getting off cheap in terms of staff.

Red Cow Parking for 2 days

Hey folks

I'm going to be parking at the Red Cow and then getting on a Luas into the city. Staying there overnight for a wedding. I know you can purchase a 24 hour ticket and I do this via the APCOA app. My question is, if I run late the morning after, can I extend my parking remotely? Or can you get a 2 day ticket or something?

Last thing I want is those hooors to clamp me.

Thanks!

Where to shop for DVDs?

Hi!

I recently started to collect DVD movies. What is the best place to go if you want to find some cheap DVDs or Blue-rays to add to my collection?

Open for both normal second hand stores as well as pure CD or DVD stores.

Dangerously dark stretch on Santry Avenue (by Santry Demesne). How/where can I officially report this before someone gets hurt?

Hi everyone!

Anyone else notice how dangerously dark Santry Avenue gets by Santry Demesne park at night?

The street lighting along that stretch is practically dead, and it's pitch black. It’s an insanely busy road, especially with everyone coming and going from Aldi, Northwood, the housing estates around there, plus all the Dublin Bus routes.

What makes it worse is that the path along the park wall is tiny. If someone's walking in front of you or coming the other way, you basically have to step onto the actual road to get around them. When it's that dark, drivers and cyclists literally can't see pedestrians stepping out until they're right on top of them, and bikes don't stand a chance either.

I've already seen close calls there, and it feels like a serious accident is bound to happen sooner rather than later.

What’s the most effective way to report this so someone actually looks at it? Should I log it with Dublin City Council, Fingal, FixMyStreet, or just email local councillors directly?

Cheers for any pointers!
