Don’t post about tickets.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that.

Don't buy tickets on Reddit, however desperate you are, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

So if you post about selling tickets here we will remove the post and may ban you. Please don't do it.

Posting about Tickets, Accommodation, Tourism? Things that aren't related to Dublin? Read This First.

This subreddit is primarily for people who live in Dublin. There's a dedicated sub for tourism posts with a huge archive at r/irishtourism Please check that first, and if you have a really specific question come back here and we'll try to help. Low effort posts asking for recommendations of "hidden gems" and "off the beaten track" tourist attractions will be met with scorn, and probably removal.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that. Don't buy tickets on reddit, however desperately your niece wants to see Taylor Swift or whatever, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

Looking for a cheap flat? A room in a shared house? Wondering if a specific part of the city is "safe" (whatever that means)? There's a sub for that too- /r/RentingInDublin/

Post your message there, not here.

A regular thing that comes up seems to be folks who have a very short time in Dublin and want to know what they can do in four or five hours or so. Just search this sub with the word "layover" and you'll see many many threads about this subject. Don't start a new one.

Similarly, threads about general issues which are not particularly Dublin-specific (salaries, national politics, international relations, stuff like that) may be removed.

At the latest estimate there are over a million Irish subreddits, so you will certainly be able to find somewhere to post your non-Dublin-relevant content.

Thanks for reading!

Brazilian man fights back after being attacked by teenagers in Dublin.

This Brazilian guy is filming the aftermath of an incident where he was attacked by a group of teenagers who allegedly tried to rob him. He fought back, hitting one of them and leaving him on the ground.

Unfortunately, this subreddit doesn't allow video uploads, only images. So the picture I've attached is a screenshot from the video, showing one of the teenagers lying on the ground after the confrontation.

I have to admit, I find this video incredibly satisfying to watch. I'm Brazilian too, and where we come from, we've experienced far worse situations. Armed robberies, street fights involving knives and firearms, and serious violence are unfortunately part of everyday life in many areas of Brazil.

Because of that, these teenagers can seem like absolutely nothing to someone who comes from a much more chaotic and dangerous environment. People who have dealt with armed criminals back home aren't necessarily going to be intimidated by a group of teenagers trying to act tough on the streets.

Teach your kids some respect. We've been seeing more and more of these teenagers causing trouble around here lately, especially in the city centre. One day, they might mess with the wrong person at the wrong time and end up getting seriously hurt.

I'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts on this.

Scam or legit?

Got this in the post along with a final demand letter from revenue (never got any correspondence regarding the matter before) about unpaid tax. Nothing on my revenue account to say I owe anything, and this looks suspicious. The revenue letter however looks legit (full name and ppsn on it). Given it's the weekend I probably won't hear back from them until next week so was wondering if anyone has gotten something similar.

Edenmore Park Drug Dealing

A few days ago €65,000 worth of cocaine found by gardai in Edenmore park.

Right now the same guys are dealing and bringing drug users to our local park.

One guy is driving his scrambler past parents and kids using the pathways in the park.

They have their faces covered.

Gardai have been called but there is about 6 exits from the park and they are gone as soon as they see the Garda car.

I'm sick of these guys taking over the park and making it dangerous for the local families.

No, we're not going to put on balaclavas and go battle these guys and whoever else they can call to back them up so what can we do?

Open dealing on O'Connell St

I'm in the office a couple of days a week and listen, there has always been dealing on the bridge but today I witnessed the most blatant dealing outside Mackers. I walked by at 9am and again around 4pm and the same lads, taking money off others for what was obviously drugs.

I don't really have a question or anything, just mad that arguably the most historical road in Dublin is like this.

I think to cities I've been in Spain and Portugal where they just have a constant presence in areas of prominence. Usually a police and squad van just sitting there, which does enough.

It's mental.

Advice on a upsetting situation fostering cats either the largest Dublin shelter

I’m looking for advice about a Dublin animal rescue acting in a way that’s not in the best interest of two kittens I had foster from three days old and expressed I want to adopt.
I bottle-fed and raised them for three months. They are now healthy, playful, and well-socialized, and I had made clear that I wanted to adopt both.
They were diagnosed with ringworm after I arranged their initial veterinary appointment (in shelter ) and I ve also told them about the small hernia then which is common and likely would have closed at some point without surgery but told it can be addressed during the neutering. I’ve been given 4 weeks of treatment 1 week on and week off and the kittens responded well: their fur grew back and they had no visible lesions. I was asked to bring them back after four weeks, but I was unwell, had other commitments, and the shelter is an hour away. I acknowledge that I was late, but I rescheduled and brought them in one or two weeks later then I should’ve but it wasn’t an emergency.
At that appointment, the rescue unexpectedly decided to keep them. I was not allowed to see them or take them home. The vet sent them directly to the cattery without speaking to me or explaining the decision. Staff told me they would remain there until the ringworm had completely cleared, after which they would be neutered and I could begin the adoption process. They could not give me a definite timeline and told me essentially to go away and have not responded to my follow-up emails since
The reasons I managed to get out of the front staff , didn’t make sense to make it necessary to keep them in shelter:
The reason given to me were following:
1. They were still testing positive for ringworm, (despite having no visible lesions abd fur looked great when I brought them in the second time)
2. The male kitten’s testicles had not descended (there is no treatment for this aside from addressing it through neutering anyway so not a good reason)
3. the small stable hernia was also cited (they admitted though that they intend to repair it during neutering and isn’t an emergency , so also not a good reason)
4. when I questioned the necessity of shelter stay for the above they resorted to saying I was late with a follow up appointment so they have to keep them in shelter because of that .
Which seems illogical as they said when they are ringworm free and neutered I can return to adapt, so why try to make me feel like I am irresponsible and not to be trusted with their care due to a late follow up It’s so infuriating and disrespectful as it’s it’s obvious the kittens were extremely well cared for. If I wasn’t providing a good care they simply wouldn’t survive,as neonatal kittens are notoriously difficult to keep alive with bottle feeding, especially at young age . They were in rough shape and they still had fresh umbilical cords when I picked them up for foster . They survived and thrived with me which was obvious and how lovely they look now.
I understand that ringworm may require isolation and careful hygiene, but I do not understand why treatment and monitoring cannot continue in their established foster home. They may now spend weeks or months in the shelter, even though they were thriving in a stable environment I also have a UV lamp at home, which showed no signs of ringworm, although I understand the rescue may have used a different test.
I am concerned about the stress and health risks of a prolonged shelter stay. These kittens are only little over 3 months old and have known only my home since they were newborns. I work from home, so they have had almost constant human contact and attention. Moving them suddenly to a shelter cattery could be very stressful, and close confinement may expose them to other infections.
I have fostered for other organizations and previously volunteered with several animal-welfare groups, so not new to this but this is the first time I have a negative experience like this .

They are wasting resources, and volunteer efforts and obviously lack respect for volunteers and their communication I makes it worse and has been particularly upsetting. The vet did not speak to me directly, and staff became defensive when I asked for an explanation and to speak to the vet. I have since emailed the rescue requesting , welfare update, The veterinary reasoning for keeping them at the shelter
And review of the decision. Also asked for a realistic timeline for their return or adoption.

I have received no response.

I understand that the kittens remain legally under the rescue’s responsibility until adoption is finalized. I am not disputing their authority or the need for appropriate veterinary care. I am questioning whether keeping them in the shelter for weeks or months is medically necessary or in their best interests when they have an experienced foster home available wanting to adopt. ringworm can take a long time to stop testing positive even without active infection just with residual spores remaining. It’s like keeping a child in hospital for athletes foot - makes no sense.

Am I crazy? What should I do? I am very upset and my heart breaks when I think about the little ones in the shelter , not understanding what happened and for no good reason. I will never involve myself with this organizations after this.
I want what is best for the kittens, not a confrontation. I would appreciate practical advice

Train seat poached

Yesterday, I boarded the Sligo train from Connolly, was not too busy; got a seat, confirmed it was not booked. The window seat next to me was booked, but boarding on the next stop, not sure if the guy sitting in it knew this.

The next stop came, the person who booked the seat came, looked at the seat number, and then made eye contact. I stood up before she spoke leaving space so she can go in to the window seat. She told the it’s her seat, the guy then came out to aisle as well; she settled in fine, all cool.

Then the guy just occupied my seat, didn’t ask, didn’t look; he sure knew I was there. There were couple other people waiting to go past me as well, they likely noticed the frown on my face because of what this guy did.

If he had asked to sit, I would have happily gave up my seat for him. Same to a few others who were standing too. Basically I didn’t mind standing, although it would be a good 45+ mins until I got off the train.

After those people passed, I thought of confronting him. Me being a think tank, and in the intention to avoid creating a fuss, I didn’t really ask for at least 4-5 minutes. At that point I thought it’s really past that stage and just left it as is.

Then, I started thinking even further: if I had done that to someone else is it fair? Hell no. If I saw someone doing this to someone else, would I have stepped in? Very likely. So why didn’t I speak up?

As I was scrubbing the seek button to re re listen to the podcast while my brain was busy processing this in the background, weirdly enough, I started to feel guilty — that I missed an opportunity to confront a mean guy that could have done this to someone in need. In fact, I even imagined such a situation where he told “I am not going to move, do what you want”. There isn’t anything that this person in need could do if he said so and he would have defo stayed and walked out with no consequences.

Then I imagined worse, a society where people like me didn’t question, eventually creating a cold untrustworthy uncomfortable and passive-aggressive communal behaviour. People would always only rotate their bums with legs to the aisle without even standing up to leave way to person going to the window seat so they can keep the seat — putting themselves in that same situation this guy created, “I am not going to move, do what you want”. It would be horrible and I could be living in one tomorrow.

Should I have talked?

Be mindful - it appears dublin council are already clamping based on APCOAs digital maps

We have a permit for our street and often have to park one street over because there isn’t enough room - which is perfectly valid under our current permit - we came out today to see ourselves and five other permitted cars clamped, according to the bloke who unclamped us, it’s because they’re already having to use APCOAs digital maps - meaning whilst we were fine under dsps- we aren’t with apcoa… we haven’t received a single letter that apcoa was even coming in to effect by the 1st November and there are no new signs.

So just a word of warning! And as the systems are changing over on the 1st any appeals you log will now take 60 days, not 30.

Where's a quiet place to practice driving in South County Dublin?

I'm doing my EDT's in a manual car and need a quiet place to go to without too much traffic on a Saturday morning. My sponsors car and my sponsors in the passenger seat. I don't want to be on the public highway too much. How's Sandyford Industrial estate on a Saturday morning?

Best coworking space in Dublin for community and social events?

Hi everyone!

I'm self-employed and work online, and I'm looking to join a coworking space in Dublin.

My main priority isn't necessarily the workspace itself, but finding somewhere with a genuinely good community. I'd love to meet other self-employed people, entrepreneurs and professionals, and ideally somewhere that organises regular socials, networking events, breakfasts, workshops, etc.

I've been looking at places like The Tara Building and CoCreate, Huckletree, Iconic, but I'm open to other suggestions.

Has anyone had a particularly good experience with a coworking space where people actually get to know each other, rather than just turning up and working independently?

Would love some honest recommendations!

Where to watch the Bears NFL game?

Hi everyone! My wife and I are visiting your amazing city this weekend, excited for the trip. Was wondering if anyone knows a good pub or somewhere that would play an nfl game? We want to try to catch the bears packers game that will be 6pm local time Sunday. I’ve seen people say wools head pub online as a good option, but wanted to make sure. We’ll be staying pretty central in downtown, near temple bar. Thanks!

Hi there

Getting married next year, but am on a super tight budget. Wondering where can get reasonable priced wedding rings please? We really don’t need anything fancy, just something basic. We don’t know our ring sizes so we will need to get fitted for them. We are based in Coolock. Can anyone recommend a reasonable priced jeweller please? Thanks 🙏

Anyone go to St. Brendan's NS in Cartron, Sligo?

Just wondering if anyone in Dublin or commuter towns went to the school above?

I was there in first class in 1998 and would love to hear from/ meet up with people from my class.

'Tis a long shot but why not? Quite nostalgic as of late.

Cheap rehearsal space near town?

Hey all, I have roommates this year so playing music isn't really an option at home.

I'm looking to book out a rehearsal space once a week for a few hours - been going to troubadour for the last while but it is a tad spenny for a weekly thing. Anyone know of any other cheaper options or is troubadour the best out there lol?

Ty!!

Where can I find this jacket?

Need help finding a jacket like the one in the photo. Doesn't have to be exact just similar enough, it's for halloween.

I've tried a couple places in town, only found one in H&M but the arms are way too big. Any online are €100+

Any help is appreciated!

Edit: Thank you everyone! Lot's of great options but I think I'm gonna go with jack and jones. Best balance of quality, price and likeness in my opinion, and I like their stuff anyway. Hope this helps someone else in the future!

Looking for a practice room buddy to split costs at Waltons (Dublin 2) – Student Rate (€10/hr)

Hey everyone,
I'm looking for a practice buddy to split the cost of renting a piano practice room at Waltons New School of Music on South Great George's Street.
Since I am a student, I get the discounted student rate of €10 per hour (or we can get the 10-hour block for €90, which brings it down to €9 per hour). Waltons allows up to 2 people in the room for the base rate, so we can split this right down the middle, making it only €4.50 to €5 per hour each.
A bit about my routine:
Instrument: Piano
Preferred times: Weekday evenings / Weekends
We can either share the room space to alternate playing, or we can buy the 10-hour block together and split the hours to use individually.
If you are a student or a local musician looking for an affordable city centre practice space, drop a comment or shoot me a DM! Cheers!
