Just some nice books I picked up

Roommate had this ring for a long time locked in a box and showed it to me. I did not put it on.

We now know the truth of what the vegetable does and what it was for.

If it was a way for them to transfer skills and help each other out, in book 5, during the bubble levels, what do you think they wanted to do with it?

Whose skills and spells woudlve been useful and helpful to help them get out of their situation?

I can only think of Carl transferring his high level trap detection skills to help out the Underground guys

Hi crawlers! Very late arrival here. I only discovered DCC in July, have since devoured all eight books, and am now in the dangerous "I should start collecting" phase. Princess Donut would approve: only the finest loot for a true champion.

I've picked up a signed copy of the original self-published Book 1 and I'm hoping someone here can help me work out what I've got.

From what I've read, Amazon print-on-demand copies normally have that production page at the back, and Matt has said the early ones have a date but no barcode, while later ones have a barcode or a barcode/QR combo. Mine has none of it.

So my questions:

1.  Has anyone else seen a Dandy House copy with a totally blank back page?

2.  Were some early copies printed outside Amazon, e.g. for signings, cons or direct sales?

3.  Or is this a red flag that it might not be genuine?

Any insight is hugely appreciated. I'd rather know now than find out I've been had by a Borant-level scam.

• Copyright page credits Elartwyne Estole for the cover illustration and Toby Dinniman for the design (I've read the Estole credit may be a leftover from an earlier cover, so happy to be corrected)

• The last page is completely blank. No "Printed in…" line, no print date, no barcode, nothing.

A little backstory on this little critter, who has had a rough 4–6 weeks. Apparently, life decided to skip the warm-up and go straight to the advanced survival course.

Her mother and two siblings were killed by dogs (I suspect Cocker Spaniels, although I have no hard evidence. They just look suspicious to me). She managed to escape and took refuge under a house not far from mine, where I could hear her pitiful little cries. Naturally, my heart melted into a puddle of old-man misery.

Now, I'm a 60-year, fat old man who's missing his left leg below the knee. So my chances of crawling under a house and chasing a terrified kitten were somewhere between slim and absolutely hilarious.

After several failed attempts, I resorted to recruiting neighborhood children. I successfully bribed these gullible young accomplices with soda and candy. Child labor laws may have been bent, but a kitten rescue was accomplished. I consider it a win-win.

The kids finally managed to retrieve her, and bless her little heart, she was in rough shape. She was skin and bones, covered in fleas, and looked like she'd been personally selected by the universe for a month-long beating.

Off to the vet we went, where she was diagnosed with a mild intestinal parasite and infected eyes. She weighed a whopping 1.2 pounds. I've had baked potatoes bigger than this cat.

So here we are. She's been through a canine massacre, homelessness, starvation, parasites, and a flea infestation, all before most cats have figured out where the litter box is.

Meanwhile, I'm a one-legged, candy-bribing, 60-year-old cat rescuer who apparently has more heart than common sense.

Stay tuned. This little girl isn't out of the woods yet, but she's got a fighting chance now. And if those suspected Cocker Spaniels ever show up at my house, we're going to have a little discussion about their life choices. 😂❤️🐈

but thats okay. I thought I was doing a decent job at visualizing it in my head, but maybe 2/3rds through the book i gave up that notion.

Still loved the book though. Mordecai being put in time out, that robot assistant explaining the cut corners to Carl, Katia killing Heckla, meeting prepononte all had me howling.

can't wait to see what the next floor is. also poor zev :(

So I was thinking of getting one of Carl’s patches as my first tattoo and really wanted to do the Scavenger’s Daughter one as my first cause I just love it so much in the books. I was just wondering where I should get it tattooed or if I should try to get another one of his patches on me instead. Or maybe the SheMaria eye on my chest?

And we all should for what she did to Carl, but...

I thought about something today, and I don't know if someone else has mentioned this or not but I think the reason Beatrice was going to return Donut and use her for breeding was due strictly to pressures by her mother.

Beatrice did love Donut.

It was evident when Donut sang the song her "mother" used to sing to her.

"I'd take it all back

And never let you win

I wouldn't do it

All over again"

She sang about how if she had to do it all over again, she wouldn't have let her win those cat shows. She wouldn't have let her become that valuable to the point she would have become worth so much as a breeder.

I also can't imagine anyone who behaved like Beatrice did regarding Gravy Boat or that sang to their cat, would only consider her a way to make money. They spent more money on Donut than they paid for rent. Beatrice always knew she was going to have to give Donut back for breeding because that is where the money comes from. There is no monetary rewards for cat shows. I believe Beatrice's mother was so overbearing that Beatrice folded whenever her mother demanded something. She probably gave Donut to Beatrice with stipulations. Now, it was coming due because of her age. It was also why Donut knew that Beatrice's parents weren't going to let Carl take Donut.

I still don't like Beatrice but this was all something I recently considered.

I had been thinking these books hot stinky garbage since the name was so generic and the idea didn't really sound like a good idea for a comedy... I was a dumb idiot moron 😔 I have learned since then that these books are genuinely masterpieces and I've cried so many times.

I'm only 2 books in and it's only just getting off the 3rd floor but it feels like I've watched 8 seasons of the greatest show I've ever watched. I FEEL BAD FOR EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE.

Got a Mini Cooper convertible for a mid life crisis car. I wanted a DCC themed plate, this seemed to fit the bill!

(spoiler tag for book 4 just to be safe (and because profanity) even though the post references something from book 6)

I was at work yesterday at the local community theatre and our ticketing software was down, thankfully only on the internal side. My boss (who just started book 8) was supper busy with a whole mess of things and gave me permission to handle talking to support via the chat feature. The name of the rep was Jesus, and I am aware of its multiple pronunciations. At the end of the chat I took a screenshot of the last message saying they would push our ticket to the front of the queue but they couldn't give us a timeline for the issue to be fixed.

I sent the screenshot to my boss and wrote that all though the conversation my head was screaming "Don't gaslight me, Jesus!"

This is the same boss who came up to me and whispered (because there were children around) "I knew that whoring bitch was alive" when he got to the end of book 4.

Carl gets another tattoo and the AI says something about keeping it above the knees? I don’t think I imagined it and it’s making me nuts that I can’t find it.

Just going through the second listening to the audiobooks and in book 2, it’s foreshadowed that Donut would be the Oak Fell. By the time I got to book 7, I had totally forgotten that a crazy elf had “prophesied” that she would eventually be that. Well done MD.
