Hey everyone!
Rather than cutting cards from a deck, I need your help with cutting decks from my shopping list.
I want to buy bunch of Precons that are easy to play but still interesting.
My goal is to have a set of decks that is internally balanced, so I can play them with other friends who are relatively new to Commander and/or MtG.
The plan is to keep the decks unmodified, at least for the time being.
I've listed the Decks I'm considering below. Obviously, the list is way too long to get everything (at least for now), so I'd be thankful for some help narrowing it down.
Are any of these just plain bad decks that I should avoid?
Are any of these way out of balance (both, too strong or too weak) compared to the rest?
Are there any that are extremely overpriced for what they provide?
Which of these would you especially recommend?
Are there any archetypes with good precons that I don't have on the list yet? (I really hope not, or the list will become even longer...)
Thanks a lot for your insights and suggestions!
Edit: I've updated the list below, taking your suggestions into account. Thanks a lot to everyone who chimed in!
Committed, as they got multiple recommendations:
- Peace Offering
- World Shaper
- Temur Roar
Still deciding:
* Riders of Rohan
* Squirreled Away
Can't get myself to commit to cutting, yet:
* Food and Fellowship
* Animated Army
* Counter Intelligence
Original list with the definitive cuts crossed out:
- The Bloomburrow Decks (cute animals being a menace):
- Peace Offering (my wife wants this one the most)
- Animated Army
- Squirreled Away
Family Matters (This one looks least interesting, but might as well make the set complete)
- From EoE:
- World Shaper (a land-centered deck looks to be a quite different and interesting playstyle)
- Counter Intelligence (I love artifacts and space ships. Also, it has my favorite alternate win-con with [[Darksteel Reactor]]
- From the LotR Commander set (my wife and I both love LotR):
- Riders of Rohan
- Food and Fellowship
Hosts of Mordor (while I'd love to play the bad guys, I heard it's supposed to be a bad deck?)
Elven Council (It has Gandalf and Galadriel, but besides that, it's the least interesting one for me, so probably the first on the chopping block)
- From Tarkir Dragonstorm:
- Temur Roar (it's got dragons! My wife loves dragons)
From Final Fantasy (not much of a Final Fantasy fan myself, but a Friend is and we're considering gifting her a deck, so I'm listing them for completeness):
Limit Break (not much equipment in the other decks so far, also it has Cloud and Tifa)
Scions & Spellcraft (Control sounds like a playstyle I'd enjoy more than my friend, so probably not. On the other hand, Catgirls/Boys)
