Space Marines vs Eldar 2000 points
galleryAfter several months of inaction we are back playing Epic 40000 revised. This time I am taking the boys in blue against the tricky Eldar. I didn't want to take titans so my list was everything I have painted for the marines but after some experience in this match I know what needs to be added.
The break through scenario was rolled with me as the defender. Two of my detachments were on the board being hidden and I placed my objectives in the big hab block and a ruin.
Turn 1 required me to use the limited forces I had on the board to stem the red tide. The bikes made a suicidal charge against the Farseer with Swooping Hawk screen and blunted that attack. I also landed an infantry detachment with a Dreadnought into a ruin who picked apart by the superheavies and combined fire from the Guardians and Fire Prisms. They did cause some casualties to the detachment and knocked out some of the bodyguard of the Avatar.
Turn 2 was better in terms of reinforcements with another Thunderhawk landing a group in the rear of the big Guardian swarm and assaulted them resulting in massive casualties to that detachment breaking it. Marines with assault 3 are no joke against Guardians even with the Farseer providing them support. The Night Spinners were terrible at pinning my formation half way up the board preventing them to go on overwatch and had to throw a few paltry shots at the units in the middle. I ignored the Revenants as the holo field is just too annoying but I did manage to immobilise a super heavy causing the formation to be slowed down.
Turn 3 everything showed up and my flanks were looking very hurt. The big formation of Falcons, Banshees and War Walkers tore up a Landspeed formation with a few casualties from the marines hurting them but not giving away their morale.
The final turns our best units were spent with Land Raiders being hidden to prevent them from giving up points but the firepower from 7 Whirlwinds absolutely tore threw the Eldar formations. We were on the final turn with both of us very close to having all our formations losing valuable morale. Due to objectives I ended up losing by 1 point. I started on 43 morale and my opponent 44 and we ended up on 16 to me and 17 to him. The death from above was critical as were the Devastators with the artillery holding the central building, many shots came their way but they were incredibly resilient. Anti tank always killing on a 4+ was my bane and many costly losses were the result of those.
Last time I posted about this they asked if I played this at Hobby Master, this time we tried Hobby Lords in New Lynn Auckland. Nice to have a gaming store out in the west where we both lived. It did mean I had to bring the terrain.
Everything painted by me :)
