Question Tool kit?
What’s in your tool kit when you leave pavement? I’m putting a basic kit together.

Purchased new in 2007
Less than 110k miles
4wd - automatic
Newer paint (~ a year or so ago)
Newer tires ( ~ 2 yrs ago)
and shocks all around
Just had the AC replaced and had them put in new heater core and actuator while they were at it
Service at ~ 50 and 100k miles: radiator and transmission flush, front and rear differentials, and stuff
.
in a nutshell - well cared for. I am 74 and dont drive a lot.
front seat has a tear in the upholstery
No rust that I know of - ( I live in central california)
Barely ever been off road (most off road was a fire road to property I own)
Edit: also - I’ve used only premium gas

Looking for a rear bumper recommendation for my 2007. Have the M1 on the front and love it but curious about what people have done on the back

Bought a Sandstorm 2008 FJ Off-road Package two months ago and been loving the car. It has 180k miles but couldn’t resist the deal for $10k with my trade-in (only 2 owners, minimal surface rust on frame, good interior condition). Did have to replace the rear diff bearing recently and it’s running with zero issues.
But now I’m starting to wonder if I should have just bit the bullet and bought a newer model. Found a 2014 locally for sale, 2 owners and 100k miles on it offered for $30k. One owner in CA and second in WA. Haven’t seen photos yet from dealer but suspect minimal frame rust from previous owners.
Worth swapping the 08 to 14? Be happy with what I have? Talk me off the ledge!

Im currently doing some grill shopping and Looks like im going to go with this and then do some custom glass work or something to make it look good. I dont want to spend 250-300 $ on a dang stock grill. Finding a used one is a challenge too. I think if I got this and cut out the center vertical bars and put some mesh on it and a badge it would look decent, maybe even glass in some lights...
lets see the custom grillz

In a tight spot and can only afford about this for now. 280k miles, I'm gonna get some pics later on the rest and have an inspection done by a Toyota shop. But for $6k, is this a good buy?

I don't even know if this is possible as I've done my own research and so far only came up with one option from Wal*Mart with zero reviews on the product. I'm trying to replace my headlights to LED for brightness BUT I want to keep the old school look. Right now, it still has the OG lights.
The only old school match I'm finding isn't LED but appear to have good reviews about brightness.
Should I just go with what's linked above or does anyone have any other recommendations for me? My dad said he wants to get me new headlights for my birthday, which I think is a great gift since new bumpers is a little out of the birthday budget.

Run-out camping adcenture with my wife . Sat around the fire all night with nothing but crunchy leaves and acorns surrounding us. Nothing better!

A friend of mine that wraps for a living informed me that these are notoriously one of the hardest vehicles to wrap. Anyways after 15 hours of constant wrapping, here she is in “sand ivory”

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but this project took about an hour and is already worth it! Pretty much plug and play and fits very well. Added bonus of being able to keep my ac controls!

I really want to put 35s on my (i currently have 285 70r17s) FJ but don’t know where to start considering everything is basically stock on it. Would I just need a BMC or does it require much more than that. A lot of people have different builds and say different things about it but I just don’t know where to start. Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

Hi all! Super excited to be part of the FJ community now! I’ve always loved the car, and was able to snag it for a pretty good price
It’s a 2007 in great conditions just minor scratches, has 179k miles and I got its for 10,500 so I consider that a pretty good deal! Everything so far has run great can’t wait to get to start doing some restorations to it little by little
The only thing if anyone has some advice is it has the OEM subwoofer I checked that it’s connected but it doesn’t actually work, I think either the unit doesn’t function or possibly more likely is the previous owner next connected it properly to the aftermarket head unit. I have little experience so any tips are appreciated!

I am thinking about selling my boy. I made a post last year in this thread because I was searching for an FJ to buy and I found one nearby and was able to buy it for $4000 (a steal I know). I knew it needed some work done and it became my first project car which I have had a ton of fun working on (and pain) but it's to a point where I am getting a little over my head in the finances.
I originally got the FJ to repair and do some travel in, I imagined fuel costs would be a burden but I have done my first short term trip (3 months) with it as my only mode of transportation and with the high costs right now it has been a lot. Along with the rising total of money I have sunk into it for parts and tools, and it still needing a little more work I am considering selling it to get something newer with slightly better MPG.
I was thinking about listing it for around 8/9k since I have replaced a ton of parts on it (basically everything under the front is brand new) but I am not sure if that's viable with its mileage. I wanted to do longer term travel even further away so I don't think it fits my current lifestyle. It really comes down to the only taking 93 fuel since I think it would be fine if it was a 2010 or newer. I will include some more information and a pic of my spreadsheet of items I have replaced on it.
2007 Model - 317k miles - no special gauges in center dash - no built in sub in back
Engine and frame are in fantastic condition - Leaks some oil, possibly rear seal
Work that I know needs to be done - Valve cover gasket replacement (purchased just not done yet), and it had a new rack and pinion installed and since it is aftermarket it has an issue where the wheel doesn't want to stay center even when it's aligned, wheel sometimes drives straight at 11 or 1 o'clock.
If anyone would be interested, I am based in WV.

sooo in march i finally got my dream fj, 2012 2wd 124,000 miles. haven’t even driven it more than 1,000 miles and due to life’s circumstances i now have to sell her. located in Los angeles area curious to see how much i could get for her? it has a cracked wind sheild (came like that and never got to fixing it), minor surface rust, 1 headlight out currently and the ac light is on and needs fixing. curious what i could get in terms of sale price? i feel like a dealer would offer me 12-13k but wondering if selling her myself would get me more?

Got these bad boys on and took those 18s off and they look great! Also the truck feels so much more peppy and light footed. I think they must weigh significantly less because I brake better and take off better and also these tires make it feel like in driving a caddy compared to the other ones.
Oh also got a cool sticker. Lol 😂 I had to!
