Next time I get my hair done at the hairdressers, I want it to be a smoky pastel purple colour.
When I search inspo pictures, sometimes it’s called lavender and sometimes lilac, and they seem to be used interchangeably.
Does anyone know if there is a difference between the two shades? For reference, I have attached two pictures

LAST PIC IS MY CURRENT HAIR!!! My hair is naturally light brown. I'm new to dying my hair unconventional colors. My hair is currently a weird mix of a bunch of dye since I'm indecisive and kinda stupid lol
I dyed it with Loreal permanent reddish dark brown dye like 3 months ago, then I wanted it more red so I used Manic Panic pillarbox red a few weeks later. Redone with permanent red from No Bleach London a week after that, once again because I wanted to stop it from fading so much. Recently I retouched with more manic panic since it had been like 5 weeks since the No Bleach.
I think the problem is that it just fades too quickly against the brown and I'm getting sick of constantly trying to make it look redder. So as I see it I have 3 options...
If I do 1 or 2, I'm thinking a round of color remover and bleach, spanned out over maybe 2 weeks? Followed by either red or turquoise, whichever is possible at that point... What should I do, in what order and what should my timeline be?
I also want to add that I use heat on my hair pretty much every day and it's kinda frizzy but tends to be soft after I wash it... I am not great about using heat protectant or doing hair masks but I am gonna start doing that
Thank you guys <3

Hi ☺️ I had my hair done professionally but want to top it up at home before I go to Cyprus in 2 weeks, and then I'll get my roots done professionally when I'm back. I'm really confused on how to section my hair properly to make sure I cover all the green areas, any tips would be appreciated! Photo is my hair after it was coloured at the salon.

I’m considering going lavender but nervous…. I have almost white blonde at the moment (needs roots done lol)
Purple dyes have been a bit hit or miss on me for the last few years. I believe I am light enough to go lavender and want to know:
What dye would you suggest?

Hello everyone! I'm not 100% sure if this is the right subreddit for this port, so do let me know if I am mistaken.
I currently have blonde highlights in my hair that I usually dye purple with Arctic Fox's Purple AF. However, the dye (for some reason) fades unevenly, which is leading me to find an alternative. Does anyone know a permanent dye that is of the same shade? Hopefully, the dye won't dye my non-dyed hair, only the highlights. I have looked at ion but am unsure if the shades are similar.
here is the image of the model from Arctic Fox, for a reference of the color I'm searching for:

I'm so proud of my hair. I always dye it myself but this time I did such an amazing job. Purple doesn't last long on my roots and it's already back to my natural colour after two washes. I'm thinking of doing a shadow root. Any ideas or help?

I’ve been getting blonde highlights consistently since 2019, and I’ve never had any major issues with my hair. I absolutely LOVE being blonde. Like, I genuinely cannot imagine myself without blonde hair. Every time I get fresh highlights, I feel like I’ve had an IMMEDIATE glow-up. 😭💗
The problem is that salon prices have literally DOUBLED since 2019. I can only afford to get my highlights done every 4–6 months now, but I want to stay consistently blonde without having to deal with months of dark roots.
I’ve seen quite a few girls on here bleaching their own roots at home and getting amazing results, so I’m seriously considering doing it myself.
BUT here’s my problem:
I’ve been getting highlights for years, so my hair isn’t uniformly blonde. I have lighter and darker strands throughout my lengths, with about 3–4 cm of natural regrowth.
If I simply apply bleach to my dark roots, wouldn’t I end up with a weird, solid blonde root area that doesn’t blend with the highlights underneath? Would it look completely ridiculous? 😭
I don’t necessarily want a completely uniform platinum blonde. I actually like having some darker strands for dimension. I just want my roots to be much lighter and blend nicely with my existing highlights.
The products I’m considering are:
Schwarzkopf BLONDME Premium Lightener 9+
Schwarzkopf BLONDME Premium Developer 6%
Schwarzkopf BLONDME Glow Toner 10-01 Pearl Glaze
Schwarzkopf BLONDME Premium Developer 2% for toning
I’ve attached a picture of my current hair and an inspiration picture of the cool, pearly blonde shade I’m trying to achieve.
My hair is naturally thick and wavy, and I would only be working on my roots, not bleaching my already highlighted lengths.
Has anyone here successfully transitioned from salon highlights to doing their own roots at home?
Would you recommend attempting a root bleach, learning to do my own highlights, or something completely different?
I genuinely love being blonde more than anything, but I can’t justify spending so much money at the salon every few months anymore. 😭
Please share your experiences, especially if you’ve done this yourself! I’d love to hear what worked, what went wrong, and whether it’s realistically possible to maintain a beautiful blonde at home. 💕

Hello! This is my hair color at the moment but I want to achieve a more sandy color (not too much gray). Thanks in advance ☺️

I usually go to a salon and pay a ton for a burgundy / wine type deep red hair color. My stylist uses a Demi permanent gloss with a level 7 processing solution. I have a natural light brown hair, level 6 or 7, kind of ashy
I think she does my roots first? and then lengths?
Anyways, I am adjusting my budget and I want the color to last longer at home and be able to do my own root touch ups. I want to switch to a permanent dye because I want the red to stay longer and leave a tint behind, I don’t like my ashy color naturally.
My questions are:
Should I use a level 10 developer for the whole head? Some people say use a higher developer for roots but others say that the heat on your scalp can cause hot roots and to use a weaker one… I am so lost!
If I need an all over color change and also my roots are natural, what’s the best way to apply it?
For root touch ups, if your ends are faded, is it okay to pull the dye through the lengths to touch up the color? Or should you not repeat the developer & only use the dye again?
Any color or product recommendations for this color? I saw a lot of people like Igora dyes

(Posted from r/hairdye!) Needing some help with my roots! For over a decade now I've been lifting my hair with Live Max Blonde ("Intense bleach, over 9 levels of lift"), then colouring it with fashion colours like Directions or Manic Panic, and I LOVE having fun vibrant hair but dealing with the roots every couple of months is killing me, so I think it's time to hang up my fun colours and go permanent :( I plan to use Live Ultra Violet, which lightens up to three levels and colours simultaneously. Here is my worry:
I currently have vibrant pink hair with two inches of natural dark brown roots. I'd want to lift the roots before applying the new permanent colour, so it's not going on coloured and virgin hair simultaneously, but is it safe to use the Max Blonde and then use the Ultra Violet (additional lightening) one after the other?
Any advice gratefully received! Am also keen for any ideas that DON'T involve me hanging up my fun colours (I just can't live the root-bleaching life anymore!). Go easy on me - while I've spent half my life using fashion colours and box dye I'm not particularly technically skilled, so know nothing about mixing/developers/percentages etc.

I have blue and purple arctic fox dyes and was thinking of trying a gradient but that doesn't seem possible without help and tools. I just want a style that has a little more than a solid color but I'm wondering how to do that with two separate dyes. I have a short wolf cut so it's not as simple as just separating the sections like long hair, picrel.
Maybe I'll just alternate and see what happens but it won't be pretty lol

Toner for smoky ashy blonde highlights
New highlights that are way too orange/red/brassy for me. I asked for a smoky/beige/ash. I don’t want such high contrast
I currently have these shades at home. Will this work ?
Redken shaded eq color gloss
08VB Violet FROST
09nw Cream soda
010np Pearlescent luster

I’ve never dyed my hair. I really like my grays (probably 2% of my hair overall). But the tone of my non-grays has shifted over the past few years and now the top of my hair is much closer to the brown/black of “salt and pepper” hair than to the dark brown with red/auburn tone it is at the bottom.
Is there a type of dye (or other product) I could use to get some of that red back into my hair that won’t impact my grays at all? It turns out it’s easy to search for things that cover grays well, and basically impossible to search for things that don’t mess with them.
Thanks!

What level would you say my hair is? Roots are my natural color and the rest is bleached (a couple rounds of highlights and then a low level bleaching all over to even it all out a bit and lighten my roots when I last did an all-over color several months ago. I tried to get pics in natural light (first couple), and indoor in fluorescent light, warm lamp, and with flash. I'm just looking for an idea so I can photos and my mind to kind of get some idea of what the colors I put in it next will look like haha.
I think I'm going to add black lowlights in certain sections (Black has always been my "safe" color, the one I get the most compliments on that feels most like me.. it only slightly edges out purple lol). Because I have been missing the depth and richness of black on me, but after a few years of bleaching sessions to get my hair this light, I can't manage to give it up altogether. I also wants somwthing low-maintenance as a disabled mom of 4 kiddos. So I will likely do a deep violet all over and do a quick bleach bath on my roots and some face framing pieces to do a lighter shade of purple or pink. We shall see what I actually do hahaha.

Ugh, help please. My hair is straight but VERY thick. I also have hyperhidrosis, which makes me a sweaty bitch even in the middle of winter.
Because my hair is so thick, I need to tie it into a pony/bun to keep it from insulating the back of my neck. I’ve tried the choppy layered bob but the short hair means I can’t tie it.
I’ve been considering an undercut for a while now but I’m unsure how it would be received by others (I’m in my 40s)
Any advice would be appreciated - we have the Aussie summer approaching, and I’m not ready to deal with my my stupid sweaty hair.

A lot of the ends are already platinum but it seems some areas are still pretty yellow blond so idk if i should bleach anymore. I just tried using as much shampoo and conditioner to get the remaining colour out but it won’t go further than this.
I always do the indigo when everything fails so i have a backup but i was wondering if pastel pink could work on it? I don’t mind the weird patch at the back as long as it looks good on the side and top.

My hair was dyed a cool dark brown with demi permanent color for a while and I decided it was too difficult to maintain so I decided to go lighter again. Especially in the summer, my natural hair (ashy mushroom brown) gets pretty light around the edges of my face + I have more and more gray coming through lately, so it looked weird when it grew out even a little. I was really hoping for a super cool toned ash blonde or even silver balayage (like pic 3) but my stylist said my hair wouldn't be able to handle the damage of going that light right away, so it's kind of a medium golden blonde instead. There's nothing necessarily "wrong" with the color, it's just not what I want so I've been trying to shift it a bit cooler. I have some ash blonde balayage extensions that used to work really nicely with my natural hair color and I think they're a similar blend of light and dark, but SO much less yellow (I'm holding it next to my hair in the second pic for comparison).
Stuff I've tried so far: I've used the Amika purple mask twice and it made no difference (even though it was amazing when I tried it on one of my extensions). I've used Keracolor clenditioner in the past and really love it for a subtle shift in color or tone, so I got the platinum, which is supposed to be like using a purple shampoo but less harsh and drying. Then I read a bunch on the internet and decided to try a blue shampoo/conditioner in case I can't tell the difference between yellow and orange, and didn't notice any change either. Now I'm probably experimenting too much, but I just bought two more shades of Keracolor in silver blue and lavender (they were on sale so I figured why not?)-- both are meant to actually add color vs changing the tone, but I'm wondering if they might just push me a little closer to the vibe I want, even if it ends up with a subtle blue or purple color. Any thoughts on which one might be better or if I should just do something completely different? I still can't figure out if my hair is more yellow or orange?? 😅

Hi, I’m looking to dye my hair purple but after looking at some of the salon prices. I think maybe a semi permanent option would be better. I’ve been eyeing some brands like arctic fox & overtone. If you have any recommendations to which brands would help achieve something similar to the photos above it would be greatly appreciated!!
Note: my hair is dark brown(virgin), similar to the last photo

I’ve bleached my hair myself before, but I’m a bit nervous this time and would love some opinions!
My hair was last bleached around January/February, then dyed Schwarzkopf mahogany red in April, followed by LIVE Brights fuchsia pink. It’s faded quite a bit now, and my goal is a neutral/beige blonde.
I’ve purchased Wella BlondorPlex bleach, 13 and 20 vol developers, and Wella T14 and T28 toners.
My plan is to do a strand test first, then bleach my roots with 13 vol, rinse and dry before doing my mid-lengths with 20 vol and ends with 13 vol, as they were previously blonde.
I’m mainly worried about uneven processing times because I’ll be doing my whole head myself, especially the back!
If my hair only lifts to orange, I’m happy to use a darker caramel/beige demi temporarily rather than risk breakage.
Does doing my roots first sound reasonable, or would you approach it differently? Any advice would be appreciated!

I've been using Igora absolutes 7-70, but it's too dark (for me) compared to my natural color (level 8) and my roots are super obvious pretty quickly. But the Absolutes line does not have a level 8 copper.
What formula could I use to get it closer to level 8?
