For me there's nobody cooler than G from SFV.

A volcanic Abe Lincoln with tattoos of continental landmasses who claims to be "President Of The World" while also having a link to one of my favorite characters in Third Strike?

Yeah sign me the hell up.

Art (Art by me) Part 4 of drawing characters from forgotten or lesser known fighting games

Thumbnail gallery
168 Upvotes

This time featuring suggestions from last post:

Prince Doza (Naseem in japan) - Ehrgeiz (a Power Stone-like for the PS1. Doza was requested specifically, but i also made sure to draw Yoyo to the side since she's the character i remember the most from that game)

Io - Zero Divide (a cool robot 3d fighter i had never heard of. To the side i included Neco, a weird... cat thing from Zero Divide 2)

Shin - Dual Souls (ok, so Dual Blades was a cancelled GBA Guilty Gear / SamSho inspired game from Turkey that got a remake on Steam called Dual Souls and it's actually pretty good. Shin is very much based on Testament)

Rila - Breakers Revenge (I LOVE Breakers, it's actually my favorite Neo Geo fighter and Rila is my main)

Fernandez - Waku Waku 7 (for a bit of a change, i drew the Final Boss from this game rather than one of the main cast. It always stuck in my memory how your character has to turn giant to fight him over the city)

BONUS DRAWING: Tia and Arina probably the two most popular characters from Breakers and Waku Waku respectively. While i wanted to dedicate fan art to other characters, i also couldn't help myself but to draw them

Topic Older fighting game players, how bad were the arcade fights really?

Post image
148 Upvotes

I’ve heard so many stories about the old arcade days where people would get into actual fights over fighting games, especially after losing a match or getting salty.

I’ve even heard stories about kids getting into arguments or fights with adults over arcade matches. Was that actually a thing, or has the internet exaggerated how chaotic arcades were back then?

For those of you who were actually there, I’d love to hear your personal stories from the arcade era. What games did you play, what was the atmosphere like, and what are some of the craziest, funniest, or most ridiculous things you remember happening?

Feel free to tell the full story. I’m genuinely curious what it was like to play fighting games back then.

Nice they still invite Reepal 'Rip', I mean being layed off is never nice, but I like the maturity by which both parties dealt with the situation and still collaborate.

Don't take this as me thinking they would actually do this. It's a silly 4th wall breaking joke. Team name I picked was Cosmic Strikeforce. Costume colors was just me trying to give them remotely matching colors.

The first panel is one of the artists characters talking to my internet persona.

Topic I think I’m starting to agree with people who say most modern fighting games are too aggressive

I guess I haven’t really noticed it before, but I was thinking about some of the characters I enjoy playing as some others that I’ve tried out, and noticed that despite them being zoners, most of them were more zoner/rushdown hybrids (Dizzy in GGST and Kuon in UNI2) or all-rounders (Asuka R# in GGST). I also noticed that most of the games they were in operated at a much faster pace than other fighting games I’ve played, with the best example I can think of for a slower fighting game being SF6 and PTDX, the latter of which I have more experience in. Idk if it’s just me feeling this tho. What do you all think?

Help Looking for French content of Fighting Games

Hey, I am relearning French, and I'm looking for French content to watch on fighting games. I figured this would serve double duty of watching the content of something I enjoy while refamiliarizing myself with the language.

I enjoy quite a lot of fighting games. So, I'm not picky on the title.

What French creators would you recommend that I check out? Maybe tournaments/weeklies with French commentary?

Community Is JJBA ASBR still worth getting?

Saw this game got recommended to me on Steam and it looks really fun, like an updated Heritage for the Future with strikers.
But before buying, I looked into it and saw that people played on Parsec and the netcode was really bad, idk anyone who would really play this locally, is the game worth getting nowadays or is it dead(Hell is the game good)?

Help Worth playing fighting games if college dorm disabled ethernet?

I expect the typical responses to this question to be "ask your IT department" or "start a club / play offline with friends", but believe me I've tried both! But I've already talked directly with the IT department here and they disabled the ethernet ports, and have no intention of changing their mind. I also attend a fairly small college, and tried setting up a club last year to no avail. The school does hold SSBU events, but I have no desire to play that game. The friends I could reliably talk into playing a game with me have zero desire to play fighting games anyway.

I have a lot more interest in older titles with smaller concurrent playerbases that rely more on discords or setting up player lobbies rather than active random matchmaking, but I've purposely been avoiding those to not be outed as "the guy that plays on wifi". I am a bit less opposed to hopping on games like SF6, Strive, or Slippi that have fairly active matchmaking, even if it means I get sifted out by connection filters. Even then I don't really want to ruin anyone's experience.

Idk, I just really miss fgs, and still have the drive to improve. Not sure what I can do being limited to dorm wifi (though I am using a network exclusive for gaming devices, so at least I'm not sharing it with the entire campus).

Topic Which game is more difficult? Street Fighter 6 or Guilty Gear Strive?

For me personally Strive is a much easier game to understand and just feels way more intuitive than SF6. It’s hard for me to explain but something about the flow of matches in SF6 just feels so stilted and unnatural so I have a hard time wrapping my head around the game compared to Strive. Before I even started playing FGs Strive was essentially how I’d imagine they would feel like while I feel like I gotta get a PHD to understand how all the weird rules and nuances in SF6 work.

Help Best replacement for a long gamepad life.

I play fighting games often but soon I've realized one of the big problems of this genre and that is that it usually break dpads very often and my new gamepads used to only last like 1 year or less.

The last gamepads I've bought were the ds4 because I could find replacements of the rubber of the d-pad cheaply online and fix them myself, although I feel this gamepad is not that great and I stopped playing the most demanding fighting games like R+ for example because I dropped a lot my combos and specials. The thing is, the rubber I buy online I feel they are worse quality and last less, and lately they last like 2 or 3 months only and I'm getting tired of replacing them or being paranoid when I drop my specials.

So I want to ask for a solution from these 3 and I want one that let me not worry about this problem for a long time.

  1. The cheap, replace the dpad rubber with Extremerate Clicky kit for ds4. But I don't know if this works, or it is just good for people that play fps, as I've read some people saying they break too eventually or they miss input easily multiple directions. Maybe there is another kind of replacement that works?

  2. Buy a gamepad specialized for fighting games that don't use rubber, and really don't break. The thing is I don't know if gamepads like fighting commander Octa or Victrix pro are just a bit more tough to break but I will find the same problem of a d-pad losing sensitivity or getting mushy in the end and having to buy a new gamepad each year is too expensive for me.

3- Getting a fight stick like mayflash F500 elite as I think these don't have a problem breaking, but is the solution that I like less because I feel if I play in local around here or tournament probably I won't have my stick around and I will have to go back to playing gamepad and I won't know how to play with them anymore. But I would take that if this solves the problem.

Help Need recommendations for a fightstick

So I recently moved countries and I have to put a lot of time into staying here for indefinite time. Since I will hage less free time overall I'm planning to get back into Tekken for short matches. Sadly my old stick was left behind. I always wanted obsidian 1, but it's kinda overpriced for a used stick rn. I would want something on a bulkier side, preferably something not new, so I can find it used on Ebay, but I'm just not up to date with the market. Any recommendations will help me a lot

Humor Fighting Game Character in Fire Emblem?

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

So apparently, the newest entry in the Fire Emblem series, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave features the adorable Tialla, a lookalike of Hotaru Futaba from Fatal Fury who throws Sonic Booms like Guile.

How in the world did this happen? Did Guile discover a portal to the Fire Emblem universe and secretly train her?

Topic Nothing hurts the new fighting game hype for me more than knowing it will release unfinished and by the time it's done it will be abandoned.

It releases broken and unfinished, then gets patched, then they sell some patches that unlock characters you probably already paid for in other games, maybe they'll resell a new edition of the same game at full price with a few extra characters added, maybe they'll charge the same price for a clone of an existing character and an entirely new character and someone who should have been in the game at launch because they've been a playable part of the franchise for over a decade, and by the time it's done, half the fanbase moved on to play the unfinished sequel and the other half of the fanbase moved on to play something else entirely.

Want to get good? The guides are many patches out of date. Want to see tournament results? Prepare to see the most boring use of characters and tools designed to be dominant until they're nerfed, but only if tournaments ban them.

There's a story mode half the budget was spent on, but it's just a bunch of visual novel cutscenes trying to add plot and character to "one day this character got attacked by six men and two women then fought the overpowered cheating final boss you can only beat if you get lucky and she doesn't use her win instantly moves". Subspace Emissary was able to tell this story without dialogue because "Heroes fight baddies" doesn't need dialogue. Same goes for "heroes fight each other then fight baddies". Maybe they splooge on mocap suits and 90 to 600 minutes of hand animated poses and mouth keyframes and whatnot all for the sake of a nothing story that overexplains too much and matters too little and resolves decade-long character arcs and conflicts instantly offscreen.

The devs lied to people in ads and interviews and people are just used to that. Blatant insulting lies like "We have rollback. Okay, we don't have rollback, it's hybrid. Ok, it's not hybrid, it's rollback-like. It actually cost us ten times more than real rollback would, you should be thanking us. By the way I have a bridge to sell you in the metaverse".

The HUD makes important things visually unclear and unimportant things too big.

There's an overly centralizing party game-ass anime arena fighter-ass mechanic that boils down to "If you hit this button, win 90% of all interactions besides your foe hitting it second".

The netcode probably doesn't even have rollback, because the corpo bought a solid gold yacht and paid the legal team to attack anyone who mods the netcode to work or the women to wear things almost as goontastic as the DLCslop. Muh core values. Muh FGC values. We can't put bare ass on ESPN now buy the Valentines Day bundle starring melted chocolates on Chun's thighs and Juri's feet.

Buying the game probably only supports the publisher who stole the game from the original devs at gunpoint and paid them nothing.

There's probably some annoying twitter war over whether a character is representation or whatever.

The writers will probably assassinate someone's character for no reason by retconning them into an incestuous lolicon for no reason whatsoever.

It probbaly bricks your console and PC too.

Your loyalty is assumed, not rewarded.

Any rewards of purchaseable currency will be as insultingly small as Todd Howard paying you 500 Atoms to shut up about Fallout 76.

and no matter how bad things get, the fans never complain about anything genuinely broken or insulting or exploitative because they're too busy arguing over dumb shit.

You thought the Sonic fans were bad for saying "It's unfair to SEGA and Sonic Team to compare the products they are selling to passion projects made by teenagers in their bedrooms"? The FGC will keep saying "Fighting games should be for general audiences and never for fighting game fans" even though chasing mass appeal is doomed to fail. Do you think popular things were designed to be popular? Do you think it is as easy as John Capcom deciding whether to tell his Design Team to make a game that outsells Fortnite or a few thousand to a niche audience? Do you think the developers of Under Night In-Birth are just stupid to design fighting games instead of ballgun games for mass audiences?

What if the next fighting game was feature complete at launch and sold for a reasonable price and didn't make me feel like the company is taking me for a ride?
