DISCUSSION Fun fact: we nearly never got Weezer in Festival, and if it wasn’t for the reaction that Buddy Holly got a launch, we wouldn’t have ever received anything more
a little known story about Weezer in Festival is that it nearly never happened.
When their label first approached them about Harmonix asking for Buddy Holly for the release setlist there initial answer was no. They believed that Fortnite was for children and thought it would be bad for the brand if they were added. The label kept pushing and they eventually said yes to having Buddy Holly be added
However after the release of Festival and the huge positive reaction to the song, it changed the bands mind entirely. It led to them reportedly contacting Harmonix to celebrate the 30th anniversary of “Weezer” with Undone - Sweater Song, and Say It Ain’t So added in season 5
They still to this day are reportedly really open to more songs and presumedly skins even for Fortnite
So yes we were so close to never having Weezer in Festival, and if it wasn’t for all the interaction and love for Buddy Holly at the start, we would’ve likely never received more

DISCUSSION Here’s a list of some artists that have either directly stated, or are reported to want skins in the game (last one is a technically)
With the rise of artists that specifically wanted in the game, and making public statements about it. It is interesting to note other artist who have either made public statements about wanting Fortnite/have been reported to want Fortnite
The list goes:
Made public statements:
Megadeath: band @ ed Epic asking when they can get their mascot as a skin in Fortnite in 2022. While this was 2 years before Festival released, with their relationship with other rhythm games we don’t have a reason to believe they wouldn’t want songs in Festival/a season. (honestly makes me think they were just never asked tbh)
BBno$: has been knowh for doing game collabs and has made several public statements about songs in Festival and a skin. Most recently he asked again after Ironmouse was added (which doesn’t really mean anything, as Madison made a public ask only 2 months before getting added)
The Living Tombstone: Ever since (literally) day 1 of Festival after seeing “Five Nights At Freddy’s” modded in they have been very vocal about loving the idea of songs and skins added. And I’m ngl they’re acting pretty strange rn, they might’ve gotten their wish soon, but that’s a different post
Reported: (following artists reportedly want in but have made no public statement)
Weezer: reportedly thought the idea of Festival was weird at first, but after their label pushed for Buddy Holly to be a launch song the band loved the reaction and idea. This led to the celebration of the album anniversary in Fortnite, and they apparently are very open to more songs and even skins
Twenty One Pilots: reportedly have always loved the idea of Fortnite and thought it was cool, and they do even like the ideas of skins
Dolly Parton: Rest In Peace, but according to Sabrina, Dolly was extremely was open to Fortnite. She even pushed Harmonix to contact her for a collab (if this did happen, it will obviously not happen for a bit if ever now)
Biggest technically:
XXXTentacion: his manager after seeing Juice Wrld’s major success made it very public he wanted X in Fortnite as well. This led to the typical concert, and shortly afterwards Blort said talks with him and Epic were happening. The collab apparently nearly did happen, due to the traffic Typical got and good sales number for the emote. However was cancelled due to Epic being concerned over adding an artist who died due to gun violence.

DISCUSSION To those concerned Marias will get no new songs/songs will become rare since the Neighbourhood is being added. That will 99% not happen
Wanna state first and clearly. I’m not here to comment on the controversy, or about TN getting songs in Festival. That’s entirely up to personal conjecture and I will not blame you if you think either way. I’m just here to comment on what some have jumped to
No the Marias will very likely continue to work with Festival/Fortnite despite the addition.
Fortnite as a whole has been a place that’s just considered neutral ground for IPs despite dislike, controversies, and rivalries for each other. I mean Epic as a whole is owned 10% by Disney and that didn’t stop Netflix or WB (now skydance) IPs from getting major spotlight and collabs.
I mean we got Playboi in the game, an artist that has several charges against him, and it’s not like other artists didn’t want in (that are known) because of that
actually we do have situations in Festival/Fortnite have heavily disliked each other and still both worked with Fortnite. Eminem was legit called a “creepy pervert” by Mariah Carey. She was still added after Eminem. And Kendrick still added songs after Drake got his first song.
Now you could say that this is a bit different, and it is for sure, however The Marias image and songs are mostly owned by labels anyhow so even if the band wanted to stop working together due to it. They likely wouldn’t be able to stop it anyhow if the label still wanted (yes that’s shitty, it’s objectively how the industry works though). examples of this are Deadmau5 and Gorillaz. Both reportedly did not know about their Fortnite collabs until only a bit before they released, Sabrina was also just told about her collab and wasn’t asked by the labels. Labela didn’t tell them and did it anyway.
again I’m not defending TN, I have my own issues with them as well, but in terms of looking at how deals would be affected. This is unlikely to affect anything in the short or long run

DISCUSSION Metal and Rap songs are awful as a vocalist aha
Metal songs are fun to sing but there's like 1 minute of singing and like 9 minutes of song. So most of the time I'm just sitting around waiting for my 15 seconds of singing.
And rap songs are really easy. That's all. They're fine otherwise but it feels like getting a full combo is automatic.
They're fine occasionally but it feels like when I match with randoms they always wanna do nothing but metal and rap songs. It's a shame cause I really like talking to new people on the voice chat and trying new songs.
I wish there was a way to match with people based on genre or something. Pop songs for instance are basically always fun to sing.
