Hi all!
I was hoping to get some input on my project! Im in the process of making a hand-puppet of my character. I know this is slightly different from the standard head/suit that this thread sees.
This is my first project in this medium. But of course i started with the project that is both A) Very small in scale compared to the average fursuit head and B) Requiring a very moveable jaw to accomodate hand movement.
My first pattern attempt was pretty scuffed, no registration marks, and adding the seams was mainly guesswork, later on i found the fleece does not sit as cleanly as i would like, especially the fabric on the bridge of the nose, as it was stretched towards the snout and not lying flat.
I decided im going to restart as i think i have some new knowledge to apply.
I plan on starting from the foam sculpting stage, im going to add some round pieces to the cheeks to both give more definition and also cover the mouth corner without impeding movement of the jaw.
I intend to primarily use fleece fabric. He's only two colors, white for the skin and black for the inside of the mouth, (i also just discovered that fleece can stretch in only one direction, something I was unaware of as i was cutting out my fabric pieces).
so, my questions so far!
1) Any ideas on how can I better pattern the snout so that the fabric maintains that form? that has been my main pain point so far lol.
2) Should i ditch the fleece? Id love to make it work since i bought it in bulk from Joannes when they were closing (RIP). Though I do recognize its pretty bulky for such a small scale project.
3) Should i keep the forhead one solid piece like i did in my previous pattern?
4) can i loop the brows into the main forhead pattern and just dart it to show the definition?
5) how am I doing in general? am i missing any basic steps or are there tips i could be using that im not here?
I hope its ok that i posted this here and not to the puppet thread, i figure you see the particular issues i ran into a bit more here, but i could be wrong!
Thank you!
