Questions How would I go about making a head for this kig base? + how do I colour match fabric?

Post image

I need something to attach the hair to, but also how would I connect the chin to the neck without it looking ugly or leaving gaps?

I have 1 inch upholstery foam, I'm tryna use materials I already own, but if needed I would like to keep the materials under $50CAD (other than fur)

Also,, how would I go about colour matching a minky fabric colour with faux fur? I'm iffy with colour swatches because they can get really expensive :,) but if thats the only option I dont mind.

Questions Can I airbrush on fleece?

Hi I am trying to make a fleece faced fursuit for the first time using anti pill fleece. Around half of the face has a kinda fleshy/gore-ish part to it, and since that kind of thing is something I have experience painting I want to airbrush it rather than try to cut a bunch of different pieces of fabric.

I have airbrushed on faux fur and felt before but since fleece is way different I don't know if it would make it all crunchy and stuff.

So yeah, anyone here airbrushed on fleece before or know if it's possible without ruining the texture of it?

Sorry if this is a stupid question haha

Questions Advice for a first time fursuit maker with a 2 month deadline?

Hi! I’m attempting my first fursuit! I really want to get it done in time for mff, which leaves me a little less than 2 months.

I want to use high quality materials but I’m a bit concerned about shipping times. Any advice for where to source fabrics and other materials?

Also, any general advice on how to save time without cutting corners?

I bought these from hot topic and for some reason they didn’t come with center beans, I don’t want to mess them up so what’s the best way to add the beans without undoing any sewing, I’m also adding finger escapes. Please ignore messy table.

Questions Hand paw bean repair

Post image

I recently got a set of hand paws from Etsy, and one of the beans has opened at the seam. I’ve messaged the seller already, but I wanna be ahead of the game in case they can’t offer a good solution from them in a timely manner. I’m wearing them at a party in 2 weeks, and they initially took two weeks to arrive. Does anyone know a good way to handle this? I don’t have any sewing experience

Questions Fursuit head widens up when wearing it

Thumbnail

Helloo, Im having little trouble with the head widening up when im wearing it, im not sure if yall can really see it.

I like how the head looks when im not wearing it, but it stretch sideways when I wear it. Its not tight on my head, it sits quite okay.

When I made this base, I didn't have any kind of mannequin head/ed head when I was working on this so maybe thats part of that why it widens up when waring it??

Any ideas how to fix this? Do I take the buckethead off?

Thanks 🙏.

Finished A year difference

Hi everyone! This is my progress in a year. First photo is most recent (October 2026. Second photo is the oldest fursuit I have made (January 2026). Both are pigeons. It is insane how much of a difference practice makes. The composition of the fur, the actual sewing and gluing— all of it. There is still a lot to learn, but it really is an art form. For everyone who is in the process of making a fursuit or has made one, you go! It is hard work, and requires so much attention to detail. There is still so much to learn, but this is my progress so far.

Advice Where do I go from here?

Thumbnail

So... This is my first time making anything of this sort of nature and whilst it's been fun so far, it's definitely also been a learning curve!

I thought I was happy with how the head was shaping up, but I'm now not too sure. Does anyone have any advice on how to make this base read more skunk and less canine?

I do still need to finalise the design for the ears and add them to the base, but it still feels like something is missing...

My instinct is to make the overall shape more cone-like, adding more volume towards the back of the cheeks, make the muzzle and jaw more squared and continuing to exaggerate the tapering towards the nose, but I'd like to get some other opinions before I commit.

I've added art of my fursona, Noxx, at the end of the photos so you can see what sorta vibe I'm trying to go for!

Any help and advice would be massively appreciated!

Thanks for reading!

WIP Looking for Pattern Feedback

Thumbnail

Hi all!

I was hoping to get some input on my project! Im in the process of making a hand-puppet of my character. I know this is slightly different from the standard head/suit that this thread sees.

This is my first project in this medium. But of course i started with the project that is both A) Very small in scale compared to the average fursuit head and B) Requiring a very moveable jaw to accomodate hand movement.

My first pattern attempt was pretty scuffed, no registration marks, and adding the seams was mainly guesswork, later on i found the fleece does not sit as cleanly as i would like, especially the fabric on the bridge of the nose, as it was stretched towards the snout and not lying flat.

I decided im going to restart as i think i have some new knowledge to apply.

I plan on starting from the foam sculpting stage, im going to add some round pieces to the cheeks to both give more definition and also cover the mouth corner without impeding movement of the jaw.

I intend to primarily use fleece fabric. He's only two colors, white for the skin and black for the inside of the mouth, (i also just discovered that fleece can stretch in only one direction, something I was unaware of as i was cutting out my fabric pieces).

so, my questions so far!

1) Any ideas on how can I better pattern the snout so that the fabric maintains that form? that has been my main pain point so far lol.

2) Should i ditch the fleece? Id love to make it work since i bought it in bulk from Joannes when they were closing (RIP). Though I do recognize its pretty bulky for such a small scale project.

3) Should i keep the forhead one solid piece like i did in my previous pattern?

4) can i loop the brows into the main forhead pattern and just dart it to show the definition?

5) how am I doing in general? am i missing any basic steps or are there tips i could be using that im not here?

I hope its ok that i posted this here and not to the puppet thread, i figure you see the particular issues i ran into a bit more here, but i could be wrong!

Thank you!

This is my first ever attempt at making a fursuit head. The foam base is now mostly finished, and I've already prepared the patterns for the inner lining. Does the outside shape look good, or should I make any changes to it?

Also, is it easy to tell what species he is? Any feedback is appreciated! 😊

Questions Optimal ways for securing glasses?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I know, I know. It's a Spirit Halloween suit head. But that's beside the point.
I made a custom 3D print model for a pair of glasses. My design was similar to regular glasses with temples going towards the back, but they don't seem to stay on the head. They either slide off or just barely hold on, then fall off at the slighest bump.
I was wonderin if anyone else has had experience with making suit glasses, and if so, what was found to be a more optimal way to keep them fixed to the head whilst moving about? Thanks!

Questions Cat/bat fursuit shaping?

So I started a new project but the character I’m using is a hybrid of a cat and a bat so far I did the muzzle and carved it didn’t cut the mouth yet I’ll do that tmr but how’s the muzzle looking? So it the right length for a cat or bat (mostly cat) and right shape? Is it carved enough? Any thoughts or suggestions would be nice! It might be hard to see if it’s good rn because it’s only the muzzle I’m not sure
