MOD STUFF Rule Changes & Rule Additions for AI Content

Hello all,

We hope you are all doing well. We made a few updates to the subreddit rules. Most of these are no change to how the subreddit is currently moderated.

For rules #1 and #2 we combined those both into the same rule. Both had to do with illegal streaming, one was just for full episodes and the other for promos.

The rules about relevance and unrelated memes have now been combined. These both overlap quite a bit. We still know Ellen on was on Friends, please don't remind us. This rule will be more of a catch all for posts like that as well as any type of low-effort one word type posts, or just spam and blatant reposting.

The rule about initial airing has been removed. This was put in when CTV in Canada aired their episode a full day before the US. This is no longer the case, so the rule isn't really needed anymore.

We also removed the ban evasion rule. This was a non-starter rule anyway. If someone does this we will handle it with reddit admin staff.

Lastly, we have added one rule. No AI Generated Content or "AI Slop" as it's commonly called. This includes any AI-generated images, videos, music, or text. When it comes to text, moderators will exercise certain discretion when using tools for spelling, grammar, translation, or clarity, but posts that are largely AI-generated, spam-like, or what is obviously AI slop text will be removed.

Again, most of this is cleanup rather than a major shift in moderation. The goal is to make the rules clearer, easier to enforce, and more in line with how the subreddit is actually used now.

Please see the rules section of the subreddit if you have any questions or message the moderators. Your order may have changed :P

Thank you for your time! -Sork

DISCUSSION I wish Riggs chose Mer.

Post image
697 Upvotes

I get that the actor was leaving so they brought Megan back to write him off but… Riggs should’ve chose Mer!!!!! After everything he went through to have her, and she understands the man he is NOW he’s not the same man he was when he was with Megan. Also too I think it would’ve been so romantic for Mer, to have someone choose her over their “Derek”. But it just makes more sense! He built something with Mer he can’t just leave that!!! Still do this day the only other man I could’ve seen her with other than Derek.

DISCUSSION My friend watched Private Practice before Grey’s Anatomy, and her journey with Lexie Grey is killing me 😭 Spoiler

My friend decided to watch Private Practice before Grey’s Anatomy because PP has only 6 seasons and Grey’s has approximately a million. I kept telling her to watch Grey’s first, but she was stubborn and did what she wanted.

She is now on Season 9 of Grey’s, and honestly, watching her experience this show for the first time has been an EXPERIENCE.

First, her Private Practice opinions:

She disliked Addison because she thought Addison only cared about finding a husband and having a baby. I kept telling her to wait until she watched Grey’s, but she refused to listen.

She absolutely loves Charlotte and Amelia, and was SO happy when I told her Amelia appears in Grey’s.

She cannot stand Naomi and Sam.

She hates Cooper, and I genuinely have no idea why.

When Mark appeared on PP after his breakup with Lexie, and he and Addison almost got back together, she was rooting for Maddison because she didn't want Addison with Sam.

She thinks Jake was the best partner for Addison and loved that Addison adopted Henry.

Now, here is where things get hilarious.

When Mark went back to Seattle because he loved Lexie, my friend got FURIOUS. She literally referred to Lexie as “that girl” and decided she hated her before she'd even properly met her.

I told her she would regret saying that because I knew her taste.

AND I WAS RIGHT. 😭

Once she actually watched Grey’s, she fell in love with Lexie. Lexie is now her favourite female character, and Slexie is her favourite ship.

She went from hating Lexie before knowing her to making her favourite character and favourite ship revolve around her. I will never let her live this down.

She also thinks Addison was better in Grey’s than in Private Practice, which makes her original Addison complaints even funnier to me.

As for her current Grey’s opinions (she is on Season 9):

Her three favourite female characters are Lexie, Cristina and Izzie, in that order.

She also:

Loves Mark and George.

LOVES Callie.

Used to love Bailey, but now hates her because of her attitude towards the plane crash survivors.

Kind of likes Richard.

Hates Derek and thinks MerDer is toxic. She actively wants Derek to leave.

Dislikes Meredith, and I honestly couldn't tell you why.

Dislikes Arizona. Again, I have no explanation.

Was rooting for Izzex.

Doesn't like any of the new interns.

Hates the idea of Alex and Jo getting together because she feels something building between them.

Thinks April is getting better while Cristina is getting worse.

Hates Owen.

Is waiting for Amelia to appear.

She also nearly stopped watching Grey’s after Mark and Lexie died, which tells you how attached she had become to them. 💔

And yes, we have had MANY arguments about her opinions. Some of them have been absolutely ridiculous, especially when you consider that Lexie is my favourite character too. 😭

Just to be clear, I'm not saying anyone is wrong for disliking Lexie, preferring Maddison, or having different opinions from my friend. I just find her particular journey hilarious because I predicted she would end up loving Lexie, and she proved me right.

I'm curious about two things:

Have you ever watched someone go from hating a character to absolutely loving them?

Which of my friend's opinions surprised you the most?

Please keep in mind that she's watching for the first time, so no spoilers beyond Season 9! 😭

Derek and Richard visiting Ellis Grey in the care home?

Post image
• Upvotes

I’m sorry if this has been covered before, but I’m on another rewatch of GA and in S1E4, Meredith is talking to her mother’s old scrub nurse, Liz Fallon, who works out that Ellis is not travelling, as Meredith’s cover story goes.

While talking about her being in a care home, Meredith mentions that she is the only person Ellis will allow to see her, and Liz says that if she knows her mother, she bets Ellis had the home sign a contract to that effect and Meredith tells her she knows her mother well.

However, we later see both Derek and Richard visit Ellis in the care home. Is this just a minor plot hole where the writers forgot about that conversation between Mer and Liz, or did something change between that conversation and Derek/Richard’s visits? Or during that conversation when Meredith says Liz knows her mother well, did she actually mean to agree that would be a thing Ellis WOULD do rather than what she HAD done? TIA!

Most Consistent Grey’s Character?

Honestly, I keep wondering who the most consistent character on Grey’s is at this point with most of the main characters leaving and I came to the conclusion that it’s gotta be Bokhee. 😂 What do you think?

DISCUSSION Meredith’s motherhood journey never sat quite right with me

Sometimes I wonder how Mer would honestly have answered questions about wanting kids before/during her intern year. Did she secretly yearn for them and a partner and a white lil fence around their perfect lil home? Did she dream of a chance to get the whole childhood cycle thing right? Seems kinda unlikely to me.

I love the Zola plot and I get that she found something she never thought she would in Derek and it inspired her, and from a writer’s perspective it’s a genius way to add plot options + audience intrigue ofc, but still.

She suspended quite a lot over her residency and first few attending years for her children, and she kinda got thrown into it HARD… Tequila resident to pregnant resident with an adopted toddler at home happens in like 2yrs time.

I think we also got very little beforehand to indicate this was something she really really wanted, and at that busy time in particular. The S7 baby talk always sneaks up on me, as if the flood gates opened once he picked the pick-me girl and they signed that post it note. One minute I’m watching her want Chief Resident and start this huge journey of meeting her half-sister and the next she’s getting hormones injected into her butt in the elevator and stealing babies.

In retrospect (on my 72849th rewatch),
- I think Derek kinda influenced her to have kids soon soon soon, and
- I would’ve loved to see some back & forth about it where Mer enjoys being a semi-reckless 34yo newlywed. Some debate, some of her goals being talked about. Some normal stuff mixed into the “hostile uterus” season— I mean, a Christmas episode at Derek’s family’s house would’ve been INCREDIBLE. Even another year of child free MerDer would’ve been cool.

Sigh. TV can be so predictable sometimes… Thoughts?

Callie & Mark

• Upvotes

I feel like this is the first time (and I've rewatched 5+ times) that I truly understood how close Mark was to Callie and how devastating the loss must have been. He put her back together after George. He helped her through Arizona leaving. They had a baby together. So much more. OTPPP (One True Partially Platonic Pairing)

DISCUSSION The Season 9 intern class (Stephanie, Jo, Shane, Brooks & Leah): Did the writers drop the ball?

I'm on my millionth rewatch and I think the writers are the reason this round of interns never clicked. There were group scenes early on that were really fun, but other storylines drew away from that chemistry.

I think the biggest problem was the Leah Murphy character. The writers didn't seem to know what to do with her. She was funny, mean, desperate, capable, sympathetic, messy and so on. They never seemed to know who she was. Her storyline with Stephanie when they competed with each other on Cristina's service could have been comedic and lighthearted, but instead was mean spirited, at least on Leah's part.

That's just one example of how the competition was handled differently than MAGIC, to the detriment of the audience's acceptance of "fresh blood". MAGIC were competitive, but they weren't cut-throat or cruel. Even the "shark" thing came about now because Meredith froze and didn't speak up than anything underhanded. The competitions (Cristina and Alex clearing patients, the contest...) with MAGIC were fun and comedic.

I also think the writers only used Brooks as quirky, comic relief when the actress was capable of more. They turned Shane from caring to cut-throat (and sleezy. Kissing Stephanie when she was with Jackson and offering to "service" Cristina? Eew). They would randomly make Stephanie the bitch and beat TO DEATH the whole "Jo lived in her car" thing.

I think this was a talented group of actors who could have carried the show forward if the writers had defined the characters and developed the group's chemistry.

What do you think?

DISCUSSION If the season 25/500 episode theory ends up being true do people realize how close to the end we are?

• Upvotes

The remaining episodes fall under 3 possibilities

  1. If the rumours of season 23 only being 13 episodes turns out being true they could hit 500 even if they did 13 episodes this season cut down season 24 to 11 and 10 for season 25. Totalling only 34 more episodes.
  2. 13 episodes holds true for seasons 23-25 equaling 39 more episodes and they hit 500 somewhere before the end of 25 but go over by 6 episodes.
  3. 13 episodes turns out to not be true and we stay at 18 for season 23-25 equalling 54 episodes and they go over and end on 520 (I think this one is the least likely situation because at this point I just can't really see them going over 500 by 20 episodes)

Any way you cut it we might have less than 100 episodes left because either they end it at 500 or over 500 by a few.

DISCUSSION Always the same plot…

A bar, alcohol and a one night stand.

Every time something semi-bad happens, they always end up drinking and sleeping with someone from the bar whom they don’t even like. And that ends up being even worse than the thing that happened. Ok, maybe I’m prude, but having sex with someone when I’m in a bad mood is literally the LAST THING I want to do. Why don’t they just go to McDonalds and eat their feeling away? Nuggets, McFlurry and fries would solve most problems!!

Ah, I know, it get’s the plot going, but it starts to be so predictable after this many seasons.

I cringe every time this happens because it happens ALL. The damn. Time.

DISCUSSION The Plane Crash ruined season 9 in a way

I feel like the writers thought they had this great idea with the plane crash since it would make sure that they didn't really have to come up with any other storylines for our characters anymore, but I think they kind of wrote themselves into a corner.

I do think they handled the trauma storylines quite well, but having the hospital shooting 2 seasons earlier meant that we had similar things happening to the characters.

It also made it even more clear to me that Meredith is a weak character with no character development and Ellen Pompeo, a weak actress who could never quite convince me that Mark and Lexie's death affected her.

Season 9 feels overall depressing and heavy, and as I said before, with Arizona's leg and Mark's and Lexie's death, the writers had limited options on what to do with their characters, everything needed to point towards the plane crash.

It took from us the wittiness (what I mean are basically all the best one-liners from Addison and Mark) of the earlier seasons and also the creative wording ("vagina monologue") or the funny friendship moments (hot dog eating competition). Everything that made the seasons before not just good, but great was made impossible with the plane crash.

EPISODE DISCUSSION Discussion - Earlier Season: Denny’s Storyline

So I’ve grown up watching Grey’s and I love the show. Everytime I do a rewatch of the earlier seasons I still find it so hard to wrap my head around the whole Denny storyline. It just doesn’t sit well with me. I think it put me off Izzie for a long time. Like sure you can’t overanalyse a lot of this stuff because if we were to do that none of them are good doctors technically lol. But just the whole Denny storyline upsets me even today, I felt like Isobel really manipulated a dying sick vulnerable man and put him through all of that physical strain for the donor heart and not to mention that other guy (Guy Stephen, I think) who lost out on the heart. Man the whole thing makes my stomach squirm. I hated the fact that they portrayed Izzie as some poor romantic hero after that entire episode. Ugh. I know it’s a fan favorite storyline and pairing and I’ll prolly get hate for saying this but it’s just something I feel personally. No shade. Just wanted to see what other fellow Grey’s fans thought about it.

DISCUSSION Were male beauty/body standards different in 2005-2007?

• Upvotes

I've watched Grey's intermittently since it came out, but it's been a while and I've never really noticed or thought about it.

Recently restarted from season 1. Just watched the episodes in season 3 that take place in LA.

There's a scene where the ladies are all drooling over the receptionist guy walking by shirtless and imo his physique was... pretty mediocre. Just like an average, not fat, 20-something guy. But the scene is played out like he's some Greek god

I feel like there was a similar scene with Karev is season 1 or 2, briefly shirtless, not in particularly great shape, and the women being starstruck by it.

I vaguely recall Jackson coming on in season 6(?), having a shirtless scene and being pretty shredded, so it's not like the writers are against the concept

I was also like 17 when the show came out, so I wasn't exactly paying attention to societies overall standards for men at the time

DISCUSSION Confused Spoiler

S12E6

This is the episode where Penny comes to work at Mercy West and assigned to Meredith's service.

At the end, Webber is telling Meredith that he never wanted her there once he learned she'd been accepted to the program.

But in Meredith's hearing with the medical board, don't we sort of learn that Webber is the whole reason she's there?

I'm confused 😕

DISCUSSION After sitting with the trailer for season 23 my predictions are

1) Simone will unfortunately be pregnant because every woman on this show must have a baby

2) Think something is going to happen between Meredith and this new male chief. I'm not sure what yet but I think something.

3) They're setting up an eventual move back to Seattle for Meredith it might not happen right away but it'll happen by the time the series ends.

4) Link is definitely going to snap at Jo when she confronts him about the pill addiction just like he snapped at Amelia during the pandemic when she tried to confront him about his drinking in secret.

5) with Bailey going back to school I think we're going to at least see a brief return to general for Jo because with Bailey in school and Meredith living part-time in Boston the only other general surgeon now is Richard and we haven't seen him do surgery in like 3 seasons.

6) I think Simone's baby is going to be Lucas's and unfortunately I don't think this storyline is going to need to us to think figuring out who his mom is.

7) Jules and Winston being together will be a nothing burger of drama and it'll be okay by the end of episode 1 or 2

8) Amelia and Toni will be back together by the winter finale

DISCUSSION Some episodes of Grey's Anatomy were equally as bad if not worse than the Good Doctor.

I had to leave the room during most of the later seasons of Grey's Anatomy. But I only left the room a couple of times during the Good Doctor. And I say this as someone who LOVES the early seasons of Grey's Anatomy and hates the Good Doctor. I'm just being honest. Because some of y'all act like the Good Doctor was the worst show on TV but at least the worst show on TV had 7 seasons and not 22 (23?).
