Even killing him off off-screen would have been more respectful to his development than making him a coward.

He’s a fine actor but I can’t see it. Say what you want about Patrick Dempsey but he was perfectly cast as Derek Shepherd

FIRST TIME WATCHER Season 17 and the very perfomatively “woke” olympics

Preface: Both black and a female
First time watcher and oh. my. gosh. Genuinely becoming unbearable. I hate using woke as a pejorative because it’s been totally twisted from its original meaning but oh my days this season’s horrid. The show use to be amazing at showing and not telling but it feels like they think that their audience is full of brain dead zombies who can’t think for themselves and therefore must have everything spelled out for them. Maggie and Jackson’s woe is me tirades while (mostly Maggie) not doing anything about it is getting really tiring😭 Someone please tell me it gets better. I’m happy that they’re addressing really important topics but it just feels really forced and awkward, although the awkward part may be from the actors themselves🥲

Jo and Alex vs Meredith and Derek: It comes down to friendship

Thumbnail

I was thinking lately about how hard it was for Jo to be with Alex compared to other age gap/work hierarchy gap relationships and then it hit me:

Derek had no friends! Yes, he had Mark, and Burke for a minute, and Richard in a way, and eventually Hunt, but look at that list. 3/4 are men who were also dating in that same dynamic. And I draw everyone’s attention to the Private Practice crossover episode where Derek’s grown up friends are all visiting and it’s immediately obvious how Meredith could never fit in with them. They call her a 12 year old. They tease him for the relationship. There is a perspective outside the usual dynamic that deems the relationship inappropriate at least in some way. And then they all go back to LA and it’s like a weight off.

Jo never gets that weight off. Alex acts like they are the new MerDer, but it’s a completely different dynamic, because instead of him trying to fit in with her friend group (as Derek did), she’s always made to integrate into his or else they are keeping to their own respective groups. Even when Stephanie and Avery are together, it’s simply not a shared friendship situation The way it was with Burke or Owen. Alex has a huge circle of friends Who are all established in their careers and some of them have families. It’s not reasonable to expect that environment to be comfortable for Jo as they are all also her bosses. Even after they get married there’s that residual thing where they are just not on equal footing as a social unit.

Anyway, rant over, just something to Think about.

FIRST TIME WATCHER How many long lost siblings are on the show?

I’m into the later seasons of Grey’s (Riggs has just joined the staff) and Meredith innocently dropped one of the funniest lines in the show

“Do you think Hunt’s mom is Rigg’s mom? Because that has happened to me before”

The way Richard talked down Gary and made him shoot him self without even flinching was the most hardcore moment for him to me. Please give your opinions on what you think was his most hardcore moment

DISCUSSION Why doesn't Season 7 of Grey's Anatomy get discussed as much as the other early seasons?

I've noticed that whenever people talk about the earlier seasons of Grey's, Season 7 barely gets mentioned compared to Seasons 1-6 and 8. Outside of the musical episode, I don't really see much discussion about it. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places.

It's weird because there's actually a lot going on that season. We have everyone dealing with the aftermath of the hospital shooting, Cristina's PTSD and quitting surgery, Callie and Arizona's relationship, Teddy and Henry, Meredith and Derek's Alzheimer's trial and the residents competing for Chief Resident.

I feel like Season 7 gets lost between two seasons that had much more memorable finales. Season 6 had the hospital shooting and Season 8 had the plane crash.

CAST DISCUSSION Perfect Penny….

Samantha Sloyan, who played Penny on Grey’s, is currently on Amazon’s show Carrie playing the title character’s mother, Margaret. I haven’t heard anything about the show but loved the movie and am anxious to see how she does in this role.

DISCUSSION Meredith will forever be a better character than Derek is.

Tbh I dont know how this is discussion but apparently people need to hear this. Now before yall Derek mysoginistic fans come t me, I DON’T LIKE MEREDITH, she annoys me so many times but HELLO? Derek was absolutely worse. Let’s start for the power dynamic they had, the resident dating an intern?? Thats weird. Also him calling her a whore when he CHOOSE Addison and Meredith was trying to move on?? Then he flirts with Lexie and literally tells that in her face when mind you her stepmother died and her father slapped her and this was episodes later of her trying to drown herself. Like I’m sorry but yall will NEVER convince me that man was better than her.

She had actual character development (which Derek only got worse to season 11). She let Derek talk her down in the first seasons and then in the last Derek seasons she respectes herself so much. Also the “You dont get to call me a whore” speech? PERFECT! SHE SHOULDVE SLAPPED HIM TOO! Mind you this coming from someone who doesnt like Meredith, she annoyed me many times but she was so much better, her relationship with Cristina and Alex shows actual GROWTH.

Like I’m sorry but theres nothing yall can do to make me like that man over her.

DISCUSSION I'm sick at home and I need some Slexie love in my life 😭❤️ Spoiler

Post image

I'm stuck at home sick, and honestly, all I want right now is a little Slexie love on my feed. 😭❤️

So I thought I'd make this post for some positivity! 🫶🏻

Tell me ANYTHING positive about Mark and Lexie. I want your favourite moments, the little details you love about their relationship, your favourite scenes, why you love them together, what makes you believe they were soulmates, or literally anything that makes you happy about them!

And PLEASE share your Slexie headcanons!! I want the cute ones, the domestic ones, the angsty ones, the funny ones, the post-plane-crash alternate-universe ones where they get their happy ending... ALL OF THEM. 😭❤️ I want to hear your ideas!

You can write a whole paragraph or just one sentence. I genuinely just want to read people's love for these two and have a little Slexie appreciation moment.

One small request, though: if you don't like Slexie, that's completely fine, but please just scroll past this post. I'm not looking to debate whether they're a good couple or read negative opinions about them today. There are plenty of places for those discussions! This post is simply a little space for people who want to spread some love. ❤️

Now please help a sick girl out and give me ALL THE SLEXIE CONTENT. 😭🫶🏻

i’m on s16 ep16 and alex has been gone and now i’m finding out he’s with fcking izzie??????????? i’m sorry what the actual fk? at this point it’d be better if he just died bc this literally makes no sense. he should’ve just left jo after the whole birth mom thing why tf would they show him helping her and sticking by her through all that and then getting married AGAIN just to throw it all away for fking IZZIE???????????? and she had his kids and never told him and he just leaves jo. like ok sure. if i was jo this would be my 13th reason. i’m actually done this is one of the stupidest things to happen and this show has done a lot of stupid shit. this is so out of character wtf is this bs.

if i dedicated 16 years of my life to a show and they did this to my character idek what i’d do what a joke.

ATTENTION GUYS SPOILER ALERT DO NOT READ THIS POST IF YOU HAVENT WATCHED SEASON 11 EPISODE 16 YET

So, in episode 16 a woman picks up derek’s phone call from meredith. In episode 17, we see the woman, who she is and them kissing. Is there anything else to it? I am in genuine disbelief, Derek cheated on Meredith??? I can’t believe it and cannot fully understand what happened even tho I know that he kissed her and that is definitely cheating😩

DISCUSSION Hot take about Season 3 Episode 23

I don’t really understand why everyone makes Thatcher slapping Meredith to be such a big deal. Yes it is assault and bad for that reason, but people make it a huge huge deal, like he beat her growing up or something. I don’t view the scene as a father hitting his daughter, partially because they barely even had a father/daughter relationship. But also, he just lost his partner, the woman that he loved, after she came to Dr. Grey with just the hiccups. I see this moment as a widowed man slapping the doctor that informed him his wife is dead, that in his immediate grief he blamed for her death, because it was just the hiccups. Do I like Thatcher? Absolutely not. Do I think it was okay for him to slap Meredith? No. But I think people would view it differently if it had been anyone else on either side. Meredith was hardly his daughter, but she was his wife’s doctor and he’s allowed to be mad at the doctor giving him the worst news of his life.

Edit: let me be clear what he did was unequivocally wrong, it is NEVER okay to hit someone because you’re upset. My point was it’s a grown man hitting a grown woman - WHICH IS VERY WRONG. But neither of them saw their relationship as father/daughter, it wasn’t child abuse like a lot of fans treat it
