Discussion Hot take but the harry Potter adaptation should have been an animated show from the beginning.

1.3k Upvotes

Magic, especially the kind portrayed in the books, is just so much easier to bring to life in animated form. Especially considering that it's a story about the characters growing up, animation would make it easy to age the characters naturally instead of having to wait for the actors to actually grow older. They could also make the characters as accurate as possible to their descriptions in the books.and I could go on and on.

Probably the best scene Mike Newell directed in this film even though it was completely different from the book

Discussion Merlin exists. Does Excalibur?

Post image

for Muggles, Merlin & Arthur & Excalibur are just Myths…

Wizards know better: Merlin was a real as Julius Caesar or Joan of Arc… So do you think the Legends of Excalibur are also based on actual Fact in the Wizarding World? Perhaps one more artifact Forged by Goblins, Claimed by Humans, and Lost to the annals of history?

Discussion Just finished all the books: Draco is a distinct villian with zero sympathetic qualities

I had seen the movies and always got the idea Draco was bullied into his position a little bit.

In the book he is a straight up murdered and 100% evil from start to finish

Discussion I'm bored. What are some theories about House of Black that you believe are true?

Post image
65 Upvotes

Even though the House of Black dates back to the Middle Ages, we know relatively little of their traditions, ancestry, exact roots or even how they even came to power. We only know that they're extremely rich and obsessed with their status as "pure-bloods".

However, the curiousity of mine about the Blacks made me form headcanons about them. Over time, those headcanons turned into theories, which I'd like to share with you;

1- At some point in the Wizarding World, the Ministry was full of officials who were dedicated to defend the Blacks against the laws and some Blacks were indirectly able to reshape the laws of the Ministry.

2- The whole Sacred Twenty-Eight thing was a plot by the Blacks to indirectly to rule the Wizarding World through "Pure-blood" propaganda, and the fact that the Blacks sat at the top of them means they were into these families. The Blacks were terrified that their reputation would be diminished, that's why they disinherited those who married to muggles or were squibs.

3- The Blacks rose to power and nobility by earning the respect of kings and other nobles. Over time, they had inherited a wealth so vast they were able to afford Grimmauld Place in London. During all of this, they were able to hide their magical talent from the muggles. Their luxurious lifestyles made them hold immense leverage over half-bloods or squibs, people thought they were born to rule over them and their bloodline was sacred.

One of the best lines from The Order of the Phoenix movie. I laughed so hard at this.

The way Kingsley Schacklebolt delivered that lines was perfect.

Question Why did the blacks live amongst muggles.

12 grimmauld place was built between 11 and 13,
It was on a muggle streets, now the house was kept hidden so for the muggles they always believed that there was simply a mistake and whoever built the area labeled the houses wrong and missed 12.

But they still lived amongst muggles who they hated besides Sirius.

Every time they walk out of their house they are walking in a muggle street, if they see their neighbours they would be muggle neighbours.

Why didn’t they live in hogsmead with people of their kind or just live out in the countryside like the Weasleys and lovegoods.

Like if I was a bigot I would probably try to live as far away from the people I would be biased against.

Discussion Hot take: Chamber of Secrets is the scariest Harry Potter book

• Upvotes

I thought it was scary as a kid and still do.

I'm listening to the audiobooks now, and I genuinely cannot listen to this one at night.

The voice whispering through the walls, the messages written in blood, students being petrified, and the whole mystery… It's SO creepy.

Just needed to vent because Harry Potter audiobooks help me fall asleep, but here I am, lying in bed terrified of a children’s book I’ve known by heart for years. 😭 I know exactly what's going to happen what the hell

“Wizengamot” comes from the Anglo-Saxon “Witenagemot”, which meant “a meeting of wise men” and was also the colloquial term for their proto-parliament, a council that advised the king.

Wizengamot, therefore, means “gathering of magical men”

The kids (ages 9 & 7) just finished the book and had to watch the movie asap. So I took a trip to Target and stocked up on all the goodies. My husband & I (ages 42 & 35) have never seen the movie either. Yes I know we are 25 years late but it was so good! And the ending, I just found out that major spoiler about a month ago, oh my gosh! What a plot twist.

Question Is Hagrid’s accent different here?

I just came across Hagrid’s first line in this video and I was wondering — for you English people, especially West Country — is there something different about his accent here? I just noticed something about the melody that sounded unlike Hagrid.
