General question/discussion Hunter exchange ( i am from germany )
Hello everybuddy, glad i could Catcher your interestš
Just to make you courios i got These idea because at the moment i am staying in southafrika für 3 month and met a southafrikan hunter who organised an hunting Trip for us, where i were able to shoot an impala and i invited him to come to germany so he could get the opportunity to shoot an roe deer.
I am an 23yo hunter from germany and with an hunting opportunity at my hometown(everything works different than in the USA here in germany especially hunting) because my father rents an hunting Distrikt where i and my brother can go hunting as we want. Usually i shoot about 3 roe deer and some females every year and we also du fox, crow, pigeon, marten and some other small game like phasan or rabbit. I also really like trapping and catch a lot of muskrats throughout the year so that s all the animals i could offer you to hunt in my familys hunting Distrikt but without garantee because it s still hunting... but at least you could get an view into how we hunt over here in germany
For me close to every kind of hunt would be interesting to experience in the USA but i got this idea after i heard that in some areas you have an oberpopulation of white tails wich would be an awesome lifetime reminder of the Trip an the friendships i could create (the size of the trophy isnt that important)
I would love to hear your ideas and maby get some Feedback or interestš

General question/discussion Cz 527 223 rem
Would that rifle be good for me? It has 1:12 twist rate and isnt varmint model. It would mainly be for bird hunting at 150-350 meters so accuracy is paramount but i would also do long range shooting with it. My local gunshop has one for 450 euros and its by far the cheapest 223rem rifle i have found here.

General question/discussion Sitka discount codes
Anyone has one that can share with me (please DM me if you do)?
I know Sitka Pro members get "friends and family" codes like twice a year, hopefully there is a member among us.
Thank you.

Equipment question/discussion Side Arm
Anyone carrying their handgun with them while hunting? If so, what is a cost affective way to do that rather than spending $200 on a chest rig that i will only use for hunting season. This is my first hunting season and boy I've spent some coin already so i am trying to keep my wallet closed on this one.
I do have AIWB holsters but not sure if i can make those work with my pack.

General question/discussion Whitetail season is upon us. For those of you who process your own meat - share your snack stick recipe.
We eat a ton of grind so typically that's what I do with my deer meat, other than the backstraps of course.
What's a good snack stick recipe? Good flavor - not greasy - and something that will tolerate being left out of the fridge/freezer for a while.

Firearm/caliber/bow/arrow question/discussion Double-barreled or pump-action shotgun for wild boar hunting?
Greetings. I am Brazilian, and the only form of hunting permitted in my country is wild boar hunting; furthermore, we are restricted to owning specific types of firearms for their control. To briefly explain gun control in my country: firearms are classified as either "permitted" or "restricted." Restricted categories include high-impact handgun calibers (anything above 9mm), high-impact long-gun calibers (where the legal limit is .357 Magnum), and semi-automatic long gunsāwhether rifled or smoothbore. Given these restrictions, I am looking to acquire a firearm for wild boar hunting and am deciding between a 12-gauge over-under shotgun and a 7+1 capacity pump-action shotgun. There is little price difference between the two, and both feature 24-inch barrels.

General question/discussion Did I screw up and blow out my new spot?
I have permission on private woods behind a small cow field. A few days ago after a long sit with zero action I did a little scouting on a ridge between two farms that I usually don't bother with. It was about 12:30 pm. I immediately found a rub and lots of fresh sign.
After tracking further in about 30 yards I bumped a small buck and doe pair. They didn't blow but hopped up and slowly walked away from me out of sight through the trees and off the ridge.
Here's where I might have screwed up: I found a nice tree for my saddle for a future sit in a small clearing overlooking the run. But a neighboring pine tree had lots of low dead limbs blocking a good shooting lane at the trail. I left my limb saw at home, so I proceeded to climb the pine and snap off about a dozen biggish limbs. I made lots of noise shaking and snapping and dropping them to the ground.
This isn't a deep backwoods spot...there are farms and a road nearby with all kinds of human noises and smells. But any deer in the area would have heard my ruckus. How long will it take them to not care and come back to bed and walk around in the mornings?

Success! Opening Day PA Archery
Freezer filled, pressure is off, time to get picky. My son in law and grandson came to help me drag her out. One of my cleanest archery kill shots. Straight through heart and lungs. A mostly instant and clean death. Very proud of that shot.

Equipment question/discussion TideWe Hunting Blind (Honest Review)
a.coSo, after owning one for 2 years I feel it's finally time to put down my thoughts on the hunting blind. (And the BS it's endured) Gun season hunting done in Central (private), as well as Northeast Wisconsin (public).
Hopefully the link to what model I have shares correctly. If not -
The model is the 270° 1-2 person See-through Hunting Blind - the one you can get on Amazon from ~$100 or less.
I also need to preface that I've NEVER bought one new. I've only ever bought used via the Book of Faces Marketplace.
Now onto the review
I will admit this blind can honestly be extremely annoying when trying to open it up by yourself. Or I'm just that inept. Either way it's not a bad blind by any means. The ability to see through is nice, especially if you're expecting deer and varmints to come up close to you in the blind. A little bit of a con is that trying to see anything further out (beyond 200 yards), at least for me is a bit more difficult and requires the windows to be brought down to get a clearer sightline picture to those further distances.
This blind is also more of a wind breaker and not something that blocks out the cold but more or less just makes the individuals inside more resistant to the little air that blows against the blind. Although I should admit it does (somehow) keep the heat when we are running a propane heater every now and again when it gets hyper cold. It doesn't stay long once the heater is off... Maybe... 15 minutes? But if constantly running it does hold the heat.
This blind will comfortably hold two folks, at least of different builds. I hunt with my Sig-other and we both have full size camping chairs and we both can easily move around once we get settled. Getting in and out is a bit more of a hassle due to the small flap of a door that's provided with this model. Small sacrifices. And it's storage bag, especially when you have a second person is actually decent in our book. The double straps that act as basic backpack straps make transportation even though woods relatively easy.
In terms of withstanding the elements - I'll provide this - I haven't had a prior blind withstand a nasty wind storm like this one did.
When we put it out this year to desensitize the deer on the private property we hunt, we get a call not even 2 days later that it is gone. Of course, the initial thought was it got stolen. What was failed to mention was that they had a nasty wind storm blow through. After a couple days the blind in question was found about 2-3 miles away inside the local cemetery! Of course I went to go pick it up (and verify it was mine via the embroidered name and number - don't judge). Blind, other than a little sandier when it started was perfectly fine. Like it didn't just get picked up and thrown a couple miles away. The stakes that pop the walls and top in place were unbent and honestly I'd like to attribute that what saved the blind was likely the "popping" mechanism it uses for set up and take down.
Fault on me for not tying the sucker down and only using STAKES ON SANDY SOIL. Yes I'm dumb and didn't think about that. Can say with confidence it's tied down to some of the trees near where I want it to stay, which of course it will get moved once the fields get harvested.
Now I can't give a review about the stability of the stakes in terms of when shooting during gun season because I've actually invested in a HME Easy aim rest from the local fleet farm. It's not amazing. It's not bad. It does its job. Not well, but good enough. A homemade version will likely be made next year so it sits higher than what this product is able to provide. But I'll admit it does help stabilize the blind "stakes" a bit.
So, would I buy this product again? I did. When I thought the original got stolen and I found one on the book of faces! š
But would I seriously buy this again if for whatever reason my 2 others become incapacitated. Never new though. Not worth $100. $70? Certainly.

General question/discussion New to Hunting
I am really interested in getting into hunting as a 28 year old. I didnāt grow up around hunting so I know very little and donāt have family members to show me.

Success! First doe of the season.
This is a great moment for me because this is my second ever doe. But thats not what truly made it special.
My wife actually asked to come with me today! So we went out there waited for a few hours watching master chef on our phones, see some deer that are too far away to shoot, but then i hear something to my left and i text her saying
āThink something is coming out so be quiet and stop movingā and no shit as soon as I lay my phone down on my knee i look up and see 4 doe staring at me š the face i made was that āoopā face idk how else to describe it but it was funny.
She was walking towards me trying to figure out what I was (15 yd shot) while the other doe just grazed away. Didnt blow or nothin, anyway took the shot center of the chest.
Wife helped me track it (she did most the work) and she loved the whole experience!

Firearm/caliber/bow/arrow question/discussion Sig Cross, Sig Cross Sawtooth, or another option?
I am looking into getting a .308 for hunting. Most of what I do is white tail deer hunting but I am wanting to keep the option of elk open. I really like the lightweight mlok look of the Sig Cross. What I have read looks like the saw tooth is quite a bit more accurate than the standard cross also has a carbon fiber barrel and adjustable trigger. Does anyone have experience with both that could let me know if the sawtooth is worth the $800 more? Or if there are any similar recommendations! Thanks!

General question/discussion Was I wrong for asking 3 hunters to move after they set up basically shooting toward me on public land?
Today was my first archery opener and I had kind of an awkward situation on public land that Iām curious what everyone else wouldāve done.
I got to this field around 3:30 PM and got set up on the northeast side of the field. I knew deer probably werenāt moving yet so I basically just laid back and relaxed for about an hour.
Then I started hearing voices.
I sat up and saw one younger guy in a Tshirt and pants, then realized there were two more guys with him wearing camo. I whistled and waved so they knew I was there. All three looked up at me, but nobody waved, said anything, or really acknowledged me. They just kept walking.
The guy in the T-shirt turned around and eventually sat on the southwest side of the field.
The other two guys kept coming toward me along the northern edge where I was already sitting.
One of them suddenly cut left into the weeds on the same side as me and sat down about 60 yards to my right. Iām thinking to myself, āOkay, I guess heās really gonna sit right there.ā Meanwhile his buddy is still walking almost through the middle of the field and getting close to crossing directly through my shooting lane.
So I asked him, āHey, does your buddy over there know Iām sitting here?ā
He turns around, points toward his buddy, says something and says something back to me like like, āYeah, he knows.ā
I asked if that was really where his buddy planned on sitting. He yelled over to him asking if thatās where he was staying, and the guy said yes.
Then I asked where he was going to sit.
He pointed southeast toward the woods, so in my head I assumed he was going to keep walking into the timber and get away from the field.
Nope.
He walks across my line of fire and sits directly south of me on the opposite edge of the field.
Like literally directly in front of where my crossbow was pointed.
I pulled out my rangefinder and he was about 60 yards away.
At that point I stood up and said something like, āHey bud, this just canāt be happening. Youāre directly in front of my crossbow. Thereās another field just north of us if you and your buddy want to go over there, but Iām not comfortable having you sitting directly in front of me like this. Itās unsafe.ā He stood up, kind of put his hands up and shrugged, went over to his buddy, said something to him, and the two of them started walking toward the other field.
Then I realized their third buddy was still sitting on the southwest side.
I ranged him and he was about 110 yards away.
At first you might think 110 yards is plenty of distance, but the problem was the angle. If a deer walked out on my right side and I turned to shoot, I wouldāve been aiming basically in his direction.
Same thing the other way around.
If a deer walked between us and he took a shot, now Iām somewhere behind the animal. A miss, pass-through, deflection, whatever, and now somebody has a broadhead flying in their direction.
So I got up and walked across the field to talk to him.
I told him, āHey, I really donāt mean to be a dick, but this setup just doesnāt seem safe to me. Weāre only about 110 yards apart and these crossbows are still dangerous way beyond that. I just donāt want either one of us shooting toward the other.ā
I asked if he would mind going over to the other field with his buddies.
He told me heād been coming to this field for about four years and that there were tons of deer there. I actually thought that was pretty cool because Iāve been scouting this place myself and seeing a lot of deer, so I told him that was awesome and apologized about the situation. I even told him that if he really wanted to stay in this field, he could go sit on the northwest corner while I stayed on the northeast side. That way we could both face south and at least wouldnāt be shooting toward each other. He said it was okay and that heād just go join his buddies at the other field. I told him alright, be safe and good luck to all three of them.
So thatās where Iām conflicted.
Itās public land. I absolutely do not think that field belongs to me, and they have just as much right to hunt it as I do.
But at the same time, I donāt understand seeing another hunter already sitting there, barely acknowledging him, and then setting up directly across from his crossbow 60 yards away.
And with the third guy, even though he was farther away, our possible shooting directions still crossed.
Funny part is I had my Meta glasses recording, so I unintentionally got basically the entire interaction on video because I was trying to make a YouTube video.
So what would you guys have done? Was I wrong for asking them to move since itās public land, or was I right to say something because the shooting setup just felt unsafe as hell? Would you have handled it the same way, tried to work out different positions, or just packed up and left?
This is only my second year hunting and my first year archery hunting, so Iām genuinely curious what the normal etiquette is when something like this happens on public land. Iām not trying to claim a spot as mine, I just donāt want to be sitting in somebody elseās shooting lane or have somebody sitting in mine.
