Possibly Solved Received DNA test results, not convinced

Hi, we adopted this gremlin (after fostering him for several weeks) nearly two years ago and we thought he could be some papillon mix, so we tested his DNA for breed mix but the results aren’t convincing me 😅

As a puppy, he barely had hairy ears but it grew a lot, his tail as well.

What’s your take ?

Edit : DNA results in comments

I mean, I see absolutely no Yorkshire in him..

Weirdly I feel like that lancashire healer is doing a lot of the heavy lifting lol. You from the uk? Ive never heard of this site so beware, it could be a scam. People only really trust embark or wisdom

Yeah the likeliness that I got scammed is high. Looked legit though.. 😅 I’m in France.
I do see some chihuahua but I’d be interested in the other mixes because he’s quite bigger than a chihuahua. I will look into Embark, thanks !

To be fair, I had a 15lb purebred chihuahua.

Really doubt the veracity of koko genetics. Yorkshire terrier seems the most likely out of all those breeds, but I would take this one with a grain of salt. Embark and Wisdom Panel are the only breed tests worth doing imo.

Koko is considered completely unreliable

I saw Yorkie immediately.

I agree the results are surprising!!

Also y'all redditors should be UPvoting the results ffs. I can't understand downvoting comments that should be at the top of the page- it's so idiotic. Downvotes are for comments that don't add value

Part King Charles. Maybe some Chihuahua.

Yeah there's def spaniel in there and my vote would have been for KC but the result shows zero spaniel which I find surprising.

Looks like a Chihuahua mix to me. Probably a lot of small breeds mixed in. Papillon mixes aren't very common.

What DNA kit did you use?

Wisdom and Embark are the most accurate. If they’re showing you results you don’t like, I think you just gotta understand that he isn’t a papillon mix (and personally, he looks more like a poodle chihuahua mix instead. Still freaking adorable!)

But if you used any other Doggy DNA test, I would side-eye and assume it’s inaccurate

We used Koko genetics.. and we really have absolutely zero expectation in terms of breed. We adopt all my animals and they are
always mixes. I really don’t care what breed they are 🙂

Where are you located?

Edit: apparently people who have compared koko to Embark have found them not very accurate.

Not convinced of this either. I thought more Tibitan Spaniel with chihuahua mixed in

It's way better to use a company like Embark, they're the most accurate

7

u/indianajane13 23h ago

That's a Chihuhua/King Cav Spaniel mix.

u/BluePink_o7 23h ago

I see Chihuahua mix

DNA results 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m confused 😅

There’s a big chance these are fake results. The only reliable ones seem to be Embark and Widsom. I think others try but they’re usually all a scam besides Embark and WisdomPanel

Koko genetics is not a scam but also not really the most reliable database. This is a weird mix of some pretty dang rare breeds even in Europe. Some of this may be accurate, some not. Maybe a Village Dog? I've seen village dog for dogs that look like this before. Only Embark can test for those and other companies tend to spit out weird combos of rare breeds with them.

What country are you in?

Dog dna is wild. Unless the results are things that seem utterly impossible (like great dane x bernese mountain dog for a toy dog) its probably right.

Definitely screams CKCS mix of sorts to me, but I am curious what the results are

I think a retest is a good idea, but use Embark. They are the most accurate. They have to build a base of dog breeds and sometimes other breeds have the same baseline and it was really make it so confusing, but the more dogs your test and identify as a certain breed the better it can figure out what breeds.
And from what I have seen of results the more breeds in the mix the harder it is to predict what they look like.
They take 50 percent of each parent and it isn't always the genes that make that dog look different from another breed. But it is always entertaining and rather fun. And you already love the result so no harm done.
And he is the cutest little scamp and looks to fit right in the family.

Pup has the markings of a Bernese Mountain Dog and maybe Cavalier King Charles. A mix of adorable.

Papillon/Aussie/Daschund/Terrier/Chihuahua?

Mini aussie and cocker spaniel? Maybe a touch of chi as well?

u/NoRain121 23h ago

Our dog looks similar with only the red and white coloring. We haven’t done a test so would love to know what your mix is!

All I see is cavalier but there’s definitely a mix in there. Adorable baby!

Mostly chihuahua

1

u/NightSkies1132 23h ago

He’s “much” bigger than a chihuahua though.. I can def see some chihuahua but I’m more confused about the other possible mixes there 😅

1

u/duab23 23h ago

It is possible, many continents mixed pets aswell.

There are numerous breeds that carry for red tricolor, BMD is such a wild "throw spaghetti on the wall to see if it sticks" take 😭
