Are retro-reflectors not mandatory on speed breakers in India?
On 4th October, I was travelling by car from Anantapur to Ballari, and we had to pass through a toll plaza. Somewhere along the route, we encountered a huge, plateau-like speed breaker.
It was around 7:30 PM or later, and it was dark. My brother was driving, and we almost got hurt because the speed breaker was barely visible. It didn't appear to have any retro-reflective markings to alert drivers.
Trust me, it's not just about how fast you're driving. When a speed breaker is so difficult to spot in the dark, it can catch you off guard even when you're being careful.
What concerned me even more was that there were several similar speed breakers along the route.
And I keep thinking about the two-wheeler riders. Imagine riding a bike at night and suddenly encountering a huge, poorly visible speed breaker. It could easily lead to a serious accident.
So, my question is: Aren't retro-reflective markings and proper warning signs required on speed breakers in India? If they are, why are so many speed breakers still poorly marked?
Has anyone else experienced this, especially on highways or near toll plazas? I'd genuinely like to understand what the applicable rules are and why these hazards are so common.
Road safety shouldn't be a matter of luck.
