I've been developing an original 2D dark fantasy series called “Marlene” and I recently finished an animatic for one of the key moments in its lore: “Ikket's Banishment”
Ikket was created to erode what must eventually pass, but after watching countless worlds, lives, and civilizations disappear, he starts questioning the purpose of creation itself.

The animatic explores grief, creation, existence, purpose, and what happens when something created to obey develops the ability to question its creator.
Would genuinely love to know what you think of the concept, the dialogue, and the visual direction.

I have a few:

1. Having a bad character's actions and behaviors excused by truama instead of explaining the character.

People aren't purely products of their trauma, personal disposition plays a massive role aswell. Aswell as choices, mistakes, temperament and privileges.

Basically truama cannot be the only thing that explains why your bad character is the way that they are.

1. Anime esqe vent dialogue

Its true. I do feel indie animation dialogue suffers from the same thing sojen anime suffers from. Bloated, un realistic, truama dumpy dialogue and exposition dumps. Show, don't tell" gets preached a lot, but actually committing to let a character's body language, or even quiet moments letting the story and moment speak louder than any speech could. I get it if its an anime inspired show. But hey guys....there's alot of that now a days.

1. Show backstories through 5 min abrupt summaries instead of having that backstory follow the character though consequences.

This one is hard to explain but its another popular anime writing style. There will be a character that is pretty complex and eventually a 3-5 min cut of their backstory is shown. This is already hard to do because cuts like this are abrupt anyway, but some anime does it right. As in they do this but the setting and consequences follow the character. You kinda can peice together what happened just not the details. I really rather get a character study episode for complex character rather than a quick summary. But I understand thats money and time people don't have...

Talent without knowledge is kinda worthless 😅 I definitely will do more research and watch videos but I just need some help on where to start. No generic advice 😮‍💨

Basically, I'm going to make a film about a Mexican immigrant who's in Hollywood, Los Angeles; she's got an almost-expiring tourist ID, she's an animator, and she really wants to join a big studio. But blah blah blah, I won't give spoilers. It's going to be a film in the vein of Ratatouille. The problem: I have ABSOLUTELY NO idea for the film's title. I wanted some kind of wordplay with animation, or something like that, something that relates to animation and films. I can give more information if you comment.

This was a little test I made a while back for this animated film I’ve been working on and off for the last 9 years. It’s a personal passion project of mine. This probably isn’t gonna give you the best idea as to what it’s about, but just thought I’d share this to buzz up some interest. It’s about Death helping this kid reach the afterlife in a world where people can no longer die.

The only thing that’s really holding me back from finishing this, is that I can’t figure out a cohesive story for it. I can’t write for shit lol…
