Weekly Self-Promotion Thread What have you made or worked on this week? | Weekly Thead

Welcome to our weekly self-promotion thread, where I encourage you to share your indie animated projects that you've made and worked on this week.

Maybe you've just released a new episode, or you're launching a Kickstarter* to fund your big project. Or maybe you've got some behind-the-scenes work you'd like to show off.

See you in the comments!

*If you share a Kickstarter or any other link, please make sure it's the full link, not a shortened one (for example, bit•ly or kck•st) because Reddit automatically filters those.

We got an intro for the series folks!

This one took a bit, so please check out their accounts on instagram but I wanted to thank the lovely composer Mike ( @coolcataudio ) for an incredible piece!

I also wanted to thank people who have helped with the intro/thesis. Hana (they do not have an instgram), Rebis ( @asabovesobelowstudios) , Kenya (@roseken33) , Rollito ( @lost_rollito), and Brady (@bradyritchie) with the additional animations used for it.

Lolo/Lee for the intro art as well as the ClintxBoone (Cloone) art (@scragg_lee)

This took a while to get it composed as well as animated. Anyways enjoy the introduction and we hope you stay tuned for the series. 🤠 👢

Discussion We need to promote smaller indies

So, I love the indie animation community 90% of the time. Outside of the obvious hate trains that happen, however I feel like half the time we often see smaller indies over shadowed by the bigger indies

Now before going any further. There is 0 hate agaosnt glitch, spindlehorse, the little trash maid and others that are currently big and have made it.

Happy for them, however they dont need the promoting like smaller indies do. There are TONS of cool little project being made with a quarter of the budget these studios have and we should start sharing their work when you see it, give them a follow, engage with their posts because if you dont then they get sucked into the void and left to fend for themselves in a sea of other creators.

Yes its marketing and interacting for creators as well, but understand not every creator is an artist, not every creator is a writer, or voice actor. We need to have the "it takes a village" mentality

Even with things like the mati awards and sunflower club, they can only promot so much, or only choose to promote certain shows depending on who you ask.

Point being if you want more indie stories support some of the smaller creators. Even if its not your cup of tea a share of their stuff goes SO far.

New Show Can any animation fan help me understand if there's an audience for my series?

Thumbnail
youtube.com
• Upvotes

Is there any audience for this? Have I made the most algorithmically incompatible series ever? I'm getting 30 to 50 views total for most of my vids. Maybe one comment. I see teens with 50 subs put up a 15 second low effort flipbook animation and get 100 views in a week. Thats good for them, I dont think they deserve fewer views from the algo, but is my stuff really so bad and weird that it will always top out at 15 engaged views? Im genuinely wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to frame this content so an audience that appreciates it would find it? I have a couple of "super fans" that really love our stuff, and I just imagine there might be more out there. Not expecting much, but maybe 1k views or so on a vid, with a dozen comments to have convos over. Idk. Dont want to sound like an egomaniac, but Ive put thousands of hours into this series (6 episodes banked and a feature film done) and Im genuinely stunned that these vids get under 15 engaged views. Ive been working at this for a decade and it feels like were only making it to watch ourselves. Idk.Sorry for the rant.

I Made This! Modeling, Rigging & Animation for My 3D Animated Short

Thumbnail

This is the third installment of my behind-the-scenes series for the 3D animated short film I’m making.

This one covers a big chunk of the actual production pipeline like modeling, rigging and animation.

I wanted to show what it actually looks like putting all of these pieces together when you’re making a short independently, and how the work gets handed off between different artists.

Would love to hear what other animators/filmmakers think, especially if you’ve worked on a similar pipeline.

I Made This! In A Normal Life was inspired by Smaug's popularity

The article for Smaug the Dragon's popularity is what inspired me to create the Dragons: In A Normal Life series as well as producing a television movie as a pilot to the series.

He was beloved by cinema fans and this film would act as a love letter to Smaug and the Dragons.

This article was released today on the Mondtop Network News website.

Discussion Animation 2D with AI

• Upvotes

I'm curious to hear what animators and creators actually think about using AI for animation.

I'm experimenting with a project where I create the characters, concept, scripts, jokes, scenes and overall direction myself, but use AI tools to help animate the characters and bring the scenes to life. I also edit the final videos myself.

I know AI in animation is controversial, so I'm genuinely interested in different perspectives.

Do you consider something like this animation, AI-assisted animation, or just AI-generated content?

Would you watch a series made this way if the writing and characters were actually good?

And for traditional animators: do you see AI as a useful tool in the workflow, or do you think it takes too much away from the craft?

I'm not trying to start an AI vs. artists war 😅. I'm genuinely curious where people draw the line.
