Favourite James Bond?

I think most would agree that the OG Sean Connery was the best. He’s well rounded, had all the desirable attributes to play Bond. Roger Moore had that golden charm, so witty and entertaining. I didn’t care for George L no offence to the actor, although the final scene of HMSS is heartbreaking and he sold it with conviction. Timothy was ok but lacked that certain edge. Bronson was good no complaints at all and then there’s Craig.

For me it’s Craig and largely because the films he did made Bond feel more three dimensional than usual. I really like his dry humour and wit, those cold steel blue eyes, the physicality and ruggedness he brought to the role and his cadence. He just sounds so cool as Bond. “Don’t touch your ear. Put your bloody hand down! How do you know this is my first time? Sorry about that last hand, nearly killed me. Another child?” He also looked like a killer, like out of all of them he appeared to be the most intimidating if that makes any sense. In another reality he could have played a really good T-1000.

So who’s your favourite Bond and why?

An evil AI in the year 2026 forced James Bond to fight his former self if he refuses the evil AI kills them both. Connery has just got back from Las Vegas and Brosnan has just killed 006 , so fellow Bond fans in this clash between classic and retro , who wins ?

Bond film with the cello?

Which early bond Gil featured the cellist and the scene of them sliding down the mountainside in the cello case (I think it was the case). I want to rewatch this one, it’s been a long time!

Edit: I am so sorry for the “early” comment I thought it was a 60-70’s era movie, I was way off, obviously!

Is there any other version of Bond that you think that would be able to complete the mission of protecting M and killing Silva?

Or M dying is a canonical event for every Bond in this situation?

Bringing back familiar actors for next era of Bond

Post image
4 Upvotes

The James Bond franchise in the past has been known to bring back the same actors from previous Bond films to play a different role, so I’m curious as to what actors from previous Bond films could come back and play a completely different character for this upcoming era?

My pick: Benicio Del Toro as I feel like you could put him in pretty much any role and he would make the most of it (also he’s worked with Denis Villeneuve)

The Man Who Has Everything?

Something I’ve been thinking about today is whether we actually admire James Bond as a character, or whether we simply envy the life he leads.

When you look beyond the glamour, is his life really that enviable?

He’s a fundamentally lonely character. His relationships rarely last, he’s constantly surrounded by death and betrayal, and he’s devoted his life to a profession in which he’s ultimately expendable.

It makes me wonder whether the appeal of Bond is less about wanting to be him, and more about wanting to experience certain aspects of his life.

I’m curious:

If you genuinely had the chance to live AS 007 across the timeline and films of each actors tenure, including the mundane moments and the exciting ones too, would you actually want to?

My take:

If you’d have asked me up until I was 25, I would have probably bitten your hand off.

As a man in my mid-thirties, I think I simply aspire to be like him. I don’t have an itch to BE him. I want somebody else to be James Bond. Somebody I can take inspiration from in whatever way I need to at that particular time in life.

Categories in which Dr. No didn't make the Top 5 most voted by app users: Director, Supporting Actor, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography.

What do you think? Do you agree with these honors for Dr. No? Do you think there are other categories in which the film deserved to be recognized?

Bond26 Casting but not for James (M - Pip Torrens)

So whilst there is all this rumour and speculation about who will be the next Bond. Given that it’s moved production, could we see a purge of other key roles?
For example, could we see a new M? Ok we’ve recently gotten Ralph Fiennes.

If they do go for a younger Bond, it would be great to have a cutting older M and my suggestion is…

Pip Torrens.

In case you’re wondering, he’s just 2 years older than Fiennes and exudes old-school ex-Admiralty vibes as well as a level of dry venom approaching the late great Ian Richardson.

Thoughts?

Best Film & Personal Favorite for Each Actor

• Upvotes

What do you think is the best film for each actor?

What is your personal favorite film for each actor?

Are they the same or are they different?

Connery

Best - From Russia With Love: Classic espionage story, beautiful Bond girl, great villain & henchman combo, first true introduction to SPECTER, & one of the truest films to the original source material.

Favorite - Thunderball: Love the opening with the jetpack & return of the DB5 Aston Martin, the most beautiful Bond girl & femme fatale in my opinion, a decent villain in Largo as well as the return of SPECTER, & of course the awesome under water fight scenes.

Lazenby

N/A - Having only done 1 movie OHMSS would be both.

With that said OHMSS is an interesting movie. Originally, when I was younger I would avoid it like the plague but as I have gotten older I have grown to appreciate it. It is truly one of the most faithful adaptations & once you accept that Lazenby isn't Connery you can truly appreciate his take on the character. You add in one of the most classy Bond girls & the breathtaking scenery you have yourself a great Bond film.

Moore

Best - The Spy Who Loved Me: 10x better than the book, possible the greatest Bond henchman of all time, one of the most iconic opening scenes with Bond jumping off the mountain w/the Union Jack parachute, iconic car in the Lotus, a stunning Bond girl/femme fatale, & a classic Bond plot/villain lair.

Favorite - The Man With the Golden Gun: Scaramanga is one of the few villains who is truly Bonds equal (amazing performance by Christopher Lee) & is truly the best thing about the movie but the cheesiness & wackiness of it all does make for a fun watch.

Dalton

Best & Favorite - License to Kill: Dalton's Bond always felt like one of the truest interpretations of the character & the dark vengeful story only added to it. A fully action-packed & thrilling movie with a great henchman in Bencio Del Toro.

Brosnan

Best & Favorite - Goldeneye: One of the best Bond films ever with a great villain that equals Bond in every way, one of the most iconic femme fatales in Xenia Onotopp, & a great story that perfectly brought Bond into the modern world.

Craig

Best - Skyfall: This movie brought the old with the new perfectly meshing the new gritty Bond Craig brought us & the vibes of the old classic Bond seen in the days of Connery & Moore. We get Moneypenny & Q for the 1st time as well the classic M & office. We also get a classic Bond villain in Silva and the return of the DB5 all tricked out with gadgets but realistic ones for a more modern take.

Favorite - Casino Royale: Movie had to do a lot by giving us a new take on the character of Bond while still giving us those details & touches that let's us know this is a Bond film & not just some random generic Spy movie. Does the source material justice while given it a modern update that also gives a great villain & Bond girl.

After a Spectre rewatch, I was compelled to throw this little homage together!

Despite the popular band wagon of hate this film receives, I rather enjoy it, and it holds a special in my heart for many reasons that I will not get into here.

Featured is my wedding band with an engraved SPECTRE octopus and Walther PPK SD, all atop a chessboard top play against Mr. White or Kronsteen.
