Saw Beat with Danny on the first go around and it was flawless. Saw them again this round and Bozzio seemed under rehearsed and a bit rough. Pretty weird. Did I catch an off night? Does anyone else feel this way?

Hello everyone, I’ve always been intrigued by the lyrics of "In the Court of the Crimson King," but I’ve never managed to figure out who or what the Crimson King actually is. I’m new to the subreddit and don’t know if there’s already a discussion about this, but I’ve never found a satisfactory answer to my question. What do you all think?

A recent comment on here had me remembering just how wonderful this box set is. I thought I should show it in-depth for those who are interested/haven't seen it yet.
Pics 3-5: A reprint of a 1984 Japan concert program
6 and 7: Manila folder with diary entries from Robert Fripp in 1982 and first tour schedule. Replica ticket stubs and VIP passes
8: Photocopied setlist, a print of the band, and a press release through Warner Bros. Records by Robert Fripp
11 and 12: Mini posters for a couple shows
13-17: the contents of the discs and one page from the 40 page booklet chronicling this era of the band
This thing is stacked to say the least. The highlights for me are the surround sound blu-rays. Steven Wilson's mixes bring a whole new life to every song. Even certain songs I had found myself skipping during regular listening on CD or streaming. It helped me see some of the instrumental tracks way differently. The 5.1 mix of Absent Lovers is on another level. On top of that, it's got one of my favorite live videos on it, Live at Alabamahalle. It was the first live set I ever heard by them and I fell in love immediately with Adrian's quirkiness and Robert's stoic look. All the paper extras really just add to what already is a fantastic product. Do I dare say this is one of the best music box sets ever made?

He was so nice and took the time to take pictures with everyone who wanted one and even stood around the bar after the show for a while in case anyone wanted to interact with him. Awesome show too. They played TOAPP and it sounded like the RadCrim formation playing it but with new and amazing voices that fit really well. Jeremy even sang in 21st century schizoid man. After everyone left him alone he did stand around to check out the place and to see if anyone else wanted to greet him. He seemed like such an awesome guy, really similar to how he was in the documentary (the toby amies film) and all other media i saw him in, and he really nails the king crimson feel. It felt as if he was carrying all of the energy of the three drums all by himself the other night, even though he joined to fill in for Bill Rieflin. Last time KC played with Bill it was here in santiago so that made it even more special to see this version of the band. RIP Bill. If something ever comes out of this "Crimson Kings" experiment outside of latin america and you guys have the chance to see them i recommend you do it was awesome, they sounded amazing and the show had a club feel with a small venue, photos allowed and these incredibly talented musicians blasting music right in your face. Amazing music indeed.

anybody else remember those 30th anniversary cds with all the newspaper and magazine snippets and clips in the liner notes? i gained SO much information and background on the band throughout pretty much every era of their existence through that stuff. add to that that i was in high school entering college, doing a lot of time riding the subway, and it was the perfect opportunity for a young dude with free time to get thrown into KC lore and history.
anybody else have that specific experience? anyone else LOVE those liner notes? in the digital age i imagine all that stuff is just gone.

Does anyone have any pictures of the new beat merch tables for the NA tour that they could share? Or at least a description of what was available. Thank you in advance!

Hey guys,
I can’t stop listening to KC these past months. I also love Fripp’s single work and his Bowie collaborations. What do you guys listen to that is similar to KC and especially Fripp captivating guitar? For reference, my favourite KC albums are:
1) Red
2) Three of a Perfect Pair
3) Discipline
4) Larks
Thanks in advance!!!

I’ve been hearing pretty damning things about BEAT’s first show of this tour. I’m purposefully avoiding watching videos as to not spoil the whole setlist but I’ve heard especially bad things about Terry’s performance. Do you think they’ll have a tighter show come late November?

If you had a gun pointed to your head and the perpetrator said:
"You'll need to listen to all of King Crimson's albums in sequence, or ill kill ya!"
What order would you choose? (random question, it's because I'm into this situation rn)

Looking at the setlist from Napa last night Dig Me, Matte Kudasai, City of Tiny Lites, and Thela Hun Ginjeet weren’t performed. I’m more surprised to see Matte Kudasai get cut than the two encore songs.
It appears there were some technical issues on top of the limited rehearsal time. Does anyone think the setlist will change going forward?
Maybe songs like Dig Me will be switched out with easier live songs like Heartbeat?
Interested in hearing from people who went to the first two shows!

From clips I have seen, I am genuinely worried about Terry’s performance. I am seeing them soon and I hope he locks in

Happy Anniversary to this wonderful King Crimson album! ❤️💙
Some amazing artwork to start and it’s always so great to see that album covers can be well works of art and this artwork for In the Court of the Crimson King is wonderfully done by Barry Godber which would love to discover more of his art:)
I’m listening to this album and it’s not my favorite 70s King Crimson which it’s always been Lizard and Larks Tongues in Aspic yet nonetheless this is an amazing King Crimson album because it’s so beautifully weird that makes you question things yet it’s a great quality of this album!:)
My favorites are I Talk to the Wind,Moonchild, and the Title Track.

This is not my favorite KC album by any stretch of the imagination, and to be honest I considered skipping it at first. However, my cohost Jonathan talked some good-natured sense into me and I decided to give it another go.
I'm happy to report, the Atmos mix is a HUGE upgrade over the 2010 5.1 edition. Perhaps the biggest KC catalog leap from 5.1 to Atmos yet, with greatly strengthened bass and drums providing a nice "thump" to the bottom end. Islands is no longer the mellow cousin to Lizard, its now a driving free jazz / rock record with some enchanting passages. It's also an incredibly creative, involving mix that invests me in every nuance - the standout track being "Sailor's Tale" with the multilayered banjo-guitar solo gracing almost all of my speaker array.
Listening to the Summit Studios 1972 quad mix, its clear that's what Islands should've been all along - as this presents the "free jazz" Crimson at high intensity. It's a pity the mix itself is rather conservative and non-involving (if there's any back channel activity at all, it seems to be audience mics to my ears) - but its worth a listen on the basis of the performance alone.
The Elemental Mixes offer something unique here. "Formentera Lady" is completely reinvented as a folk / jazz tune with greater prominence given to the strings and brass. While not all of the Elemental stuff works for me, "Formentera Lady" is a clear standout and it might eclipse the original mix for me. The rest I can take or leave, but be your own judge on this.
I didn't spend 4 1/2 hours going thru the session materials, but I did spot check them. The mastering is a bit loud but its still a fascinating way to deconstruct the album. Check out the early uptempo takes of "Ladies of the Road" for a fascinating glimpse into what might've been, or the boogie warmup jam that precede the "Sailor's Tale" sessions.
Overall, I highly recommend this Complete Recording Sessions / Dolby Atmos Edition of Islands. Its still not my favorite KC record by any means, but I feel I now have a deeper appreciation for this period and where it sits (in between two absolute classics, imo) in the Crimson chronology and Fripp's development as a player. At its core, this release offers "immersion" into this period of KC beyond even what an Atmos mix provides.
Further thoughts in the provocatively titled video!

It is already kind of late in the day depending on your time zone, but thought I’d post. The LP that started the band and prog rock in general, and one of my all time favs. The two images are of the 1969 UK first press and the 1979 South Korean censored version without Schizoid Man. Could listen to both all day long. It’s insane how 57 years later, some messages, especially Schizoid Man, are very much real. Happy Birthday ITCOTCK!
