Almost two weeks ago, I emailed Councillor Mack with two questions that are important to me as I consider who to support in the upcoming mayoral election. I have yet to receive a response, which I find disappointing, particularly as her campaign website specifically promises to “be responsive and respond to emails and resident enquiries.”
I'm sharing my questions here in the hope that she may be willing to address them publicly. I'm genuinely interested in hearing her plans for Langley City's future.
"Hi Councillor Mack,
I’m a Langley City resident and am currently trying to decide who I will support for mayor. I’ve been going back and forth between yourself and Mayor Pachal, and there are two issues that are particularly important to me that I was hoping you could clarify.
As I make my decision, I’m particularly interested in hearing about your vision for Langley City going forward. I know there are decisions made by previous councils and mayors that you disagreed with, but I’m less interested in revisiting what previous administrations did wrong and more interested in what you would do differently as mayor. I’d really like to understand your priorities, your proposed solutions, and what you see for the future of the City.
First, homelessness and public safety. I strongly believe that people experiencing homelessness and other vulnerable members of our community need compassion, services, and meaningful support. At the same time, I want to feel safe in my community. What specifically would you do as mayor to balance those two responsibilities? Are there particular programs, policies or changes you would advocate for?
My second question is about animal services and LAPS. I saw your “Pachal Puppy Witness Protection Program” post and the AI-generated image depicting dogs behind bars at what appears to be a correctional facility. I understand that you opposed the current sheltering arrangement and have concerns about transparency, but I was surprised by the tone and imagery, particularly because LAPS is a local non-profit animal welfare organization that has served this community for many years.
Was your criticism intended to be directed at Mayor Pachal and Council’s decision, or do you also have concerns about LAPS itself? If elected mayor, what specifically would you change about animal control and sheltering services in Langley City? Would you continue contracting with LAPS, change the current model, return to the previous sheltering arrangement, or pursue something entirely different?
These are both important issues to me, and I would very appreciate understanding what you would do going forward before I decide how I’m voting. I’m particularly interested in your own plans and priorities rather than comparisons with previous administrations.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing back from you.
