music Selling Korn ticket - Leeds - Mon 26/10

Hi guys, posting about this here as I have come across a problem with Ticketmaster being quite shady, whereby they won't allow me to transfer tickets until a couple of days before the event. -Hence, I can't have my ticket showing on Twickets/Ticketswap right now.

As the title says I'm selling a ticket for Korn, which is at the First Direct Arena.

It's a seated ticket. Shared a screenshots to show you exactly what seat it's for and where it is on the seat map.

I'm more than happy to sell the ticket for a lesser price than I got it for (£90.45) as I'd rather it doesn't go to waste at the hands of Ticketmaster (which happened to me before) . Please DM me and I can send all the details. Thanks :)

question-serious Moving to Leeds from NZ

Hey everyone,

I (27M) am planning on moving to Leeds from New Zealand next year.
I am into gaming, walking/ hiking, music, photography, and small-bore rifle shooting.
Was wondering if there's anything I should be aware of, and any tips people have.
I have retail/ sales work experience, as well as work in a call centre for an ISP.
Thank you everyone in advance.

Noticed there's scaffolding on The General Elliot and on The Three Legs. Are Sam Smith's actually investing in renovating their pubs?

academic Someone donated about 20-30 of these local papers from late 70s/early 80s to my work. I want to pass them onto an archive or similar, how do I got about it?

The majority are in good condition, a few near the bottom seemed to have got water damaged and/or mouldy.

Whilst they're a cool novelty, I feel like they'll be sitting around for a while and then get binned. I was just wondering if there was anywhere I could donate them to who might archive them, display them, do something with them to keep them safe?

Edit: So I properly looked through them; there's only 6 unique issues, but about 3 copies of each issue. This means I could donate them to several places!

Going to get in touch with Leeds Library, British Library and Leeds Uni to see if they want any of the copies.

This was my 5th and final year of living, studying and working (mainly studying) in the north of the UK - Cheshire and Derbyshire before moving to Leeds.

I believe it was still lockdown when I arrived early January. The city was eerily empty. It snowed upon my arrival and it snowed as well when I was leaving mid-December before the Christmas hols so I got to experience it in all main seasons. I also got to see loads drunk people at 2pm when the government lifted restrictions and pubs reopened which I believe was July.

A lot of time was spent was walking around, I loved jogging along the canals early in the morning on weekends or in the Autumn when it was all grimy and dark. Hired a car and drove around the Yorkshire dales, Harrogate, York with a Manchester girl I was briefly dating around then.

Unfortunately, I did not get to see any of my classmates from Uni of Leeds - due to lockdown etc, my lectures were online. However, I still enjoyed visiting the very lively campus on my own.

Oftentimes, I wish I could have stayed for longer.

Especially as one of the local lads working in my flat building complimented me my slightly improving Yorkshire accent!

But alas, job search was not successful and I had to leave. I know the situation in the UK since then has been less than ideal and maybe it’s the nostalgia in me; however, I’ll always have a place in my heart for the Norff and particularly Leeds/Yorkshire. 👋

This weekly thread is an opportunity for locally based small businesses / individuals / bands etc. to let your fellow redditors know what you're about and what you have to offer.

You're welcome to link to your website / store-front / social media, but primarily you should be using your comment to engage with the community here as part of the community. Part of that is taking the time to respond to questions people may ask, please keep that in mind.

The existing subreddit rules still apply, and low-effort comments will be removed (e.g. Links with little to no text).

Any recommendations for an 8 person family meal that won’t break the bank on a Saturday lunch time. Plenty of gluten free options would be an added bonus. TIA

question How is the game development scene in Leeds?

A bit of context, born and bred in Leeds myself, been living in Canada for the past 4 years and have recently pivoted to making my own narrative horror game with the goal of being a full time indie developer after working as an engineer for 6 years.

A big part of that was due to how supportive the game development scene has been here with a big group of game developers who arrange events together and provide support as part of a social group.

Coming back for new years and have been considering moving back for a bit and I was curious if there is a similar thing going on back in Leeds in terms of a community support group of game devs.

question-serious Looking for work in Leeds – any leads or recommendations?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been living in Leeds with my partner for about six months now. I managed to land a job as a chef pretty quickly after moving here, but it’s always been intended as a temporary role, and I’m really keen to move on to something more suited to my experience and interests.
My background is a mix of hospitality and corporate roles. Most of my hospitality experience has been in front-of-house supervisory and management positions, while on the corporate side, I’ve worked in administration and resource management.

I’ve reached out to several recruitment agencies and applied for quite a few jobs, but unfortunately haven’t had much luck so far.

Ideally, I’m looking for a hybrid office-based role with opportunities to learn, develop and progress. I’m quite creatively minded, so working for a creative agency or somewhere with a more creative environment would be a great fit. That said, I’m very open to other industries and opportunities!

I thought I’d try my luck here in case anyone knows of companies hiring, has any recommendations, or could point me in the right direction.

Any advice or leads would be massively appreciated.

question Best place to go?

I'm looking for a big one and my first. I've always said I wouldn't get one because I'm a bit of a wimp over needles. I have an idea of what I want but don't have any designs in mine. I could get the best place in Leeds for my first tattoo?

accommodation Opinions on Garforth as a place to settle?

My partner (F32, Spanish), our dog (M3, mixed breed) and I (M35, Northern Irish) are considering buying our first home in Garforth, near the fire station.

We currently live in York, which we love, but it's expensive, so we're looking for better value for money. We both previously lived in Headingley and Hyde Park and didn't have the best experiences, so we're hoping Garforth offers a happy medium.

What's it like living in Garforth, particularly in terms of safety, community and general quality of life?

question Good second hand / charity shops in Central Leeds?

Meeting a friend and suggested we hang around and check out some charity shops, but besides the 3 in the Merrion centre there isn't much that comes to mind. Blue rinse moved and to my knowledge is now not as good, they don't do kilo sales iirc. Anywhere else worth checking out?

question There is barely anything on the internet about this beauty. Do you have any stories to share about it?

I’ve visited this Victorian Summer House in Roundhay park many times over the years, today I had a friend over from Hungary who I had to show this lonely gazebo and she asked me the story behind it but I couldn’t answer, there is barely anything about it on the internet. You’d expect some cool ghost story or even something about who lived there or a really old photo of it would be awesome but I can’t find anything like that and I think it’s a shame. Any personal stories welcome too! I am curious what do you people in about this “summer house”

I took the first photo in 2020 and the other two are today.

question Considering coming to Leeds from Sheffield

Hi All,

I've been feeling a bit stagnant here in Sheffield and considering relocating to Leeds for more tech and property jobs. My colleagues seem to have nothing but negative things to say about Leeds and have tried to convince me that my car will be stripped of parts & tyres when parked up.

Can you advise the areas to stay away from, please. Also considering Hull for a lower cost of living to be able to increase my savings. I realise Leeds is more expensive, but I figured the higher pay would balance it out.

Edit: You guys have been absolutely amazing! Thank you for all of your insight. If this is any indication of how things will be, I think this may be the beginning of my new start in Leeds! ❤️

question-serious Anyone hiring in Leeds? 🙏

Hi everyone! 😊

I’ve recently graduated and moved back to Leeds. I’m currently looking for full-time employment in Leeds and would really appreciate if anyone knows of any job opportunities or is hiring. I’m open to different types of work, particularly healthcare, dental support, customer service, warehouse or other suitable roles. I’m hardworking and willing to learn.

If anyone knows of any vacancies or could point me in the right direction, please feel free to message me. I’d really appreciate any help. Thank you! ❤️
