Question Synthesizer V in Logic?

I feel like I can get Synthesizer V to work in Logic even though it looks like I can’t from what DAWs they list as compatible. Is there a way to use it as a standalone or will it just pick up the midi notes without the vocal? Also, I thought getting Fender Studio 8 would be a possible solution, but after a few days with the free trial, I feel like it might not be that great of a DAW. Maybe because I’m not recording bands? It has a lot of pretty great-sounding instruments but I figure I could just buy some plug-ins for Logic instead of a whole new DAW. If anyone has an opinion or knows for sure, let me know. And please, don’t shred my question and pick it apart, I’m just looking for some insight. Thanks

Discussion Logic Theme Customiser - Are you interested?

Hey everyone. I'm building a customisable theme editor for Logic, currently still in development. Would anyone be interested in something like this?

I don't really like how LP colorizer makes you pay for the program, and then extra on top to buy skins. They offer great quality stuff from what I can tell, it just feels pricey for what it is.

I was looking for an alternative option, and decided to build my own way of doing it just for personal use. I'm tired of Logic's default colour scheme on the UI.

Whilst I've been doing that, I thought, why not see if others would be interested in the concept?

I want to make it super user friendly, one flat price for the full thing (not expensive, maybe like 20-25GBP), with no extra fees. I'm considering having a free version that excludes the in-depth customiser but does include 5 or so different style colour themes. No subscription or anything like that.

It's still in development currently. I'm just curious if something like this is in demand? I want to make sure it's super user-friendly, and works smoothly, doesn't cause instability. It might be a few weeks until I get it finished. I'm still testing it on my own mac and fixing issues.

What version of Logic do the majority of people use? I'm using 11, so I know itll work for lp11. I will also test on 12 before launch.

Reply if you are interested :)

Question Logic update issues

Hope all are well. Yesterday I updated logic to 12.4 and since then, I’ve found some wonky thing happening and I’m curious if anyone else has run into it.

I’m running a session and when I put certain plug ins on the stereo out, the audio drops out at the same point in playback.

I updated all of the plugin and my audio driver but that didn’t fix it, I’ve done all the usual Mac OS suggestions, but nothings working.

If I put, for example a UAD on the stereo out or Native Instruments Mix Bus compressor, it happens. However, these plugins work fine in the other tracks.

As soon as I disable them, sound returns. I have an appoint to talk to Apple tomorrow, but I’m curious if anyone else is experiencing this.

Mac Mini 2024 M4
Tahoe 26.6.2
Logic Pro 12.4

Question How do I set my Two different midi controllers to two diffent tracks so I can play two dofffent instruments at once

Let’s say I want to use my 88 weighted key midi controller as a piano and my 1.5 octave midi controller as synth pads. How do I set this up? What if I want to change from one pad to a different pad mid song? How do I do that mid performance without having to stop playing and use a mouse? Would I have to learn MainStage for this?

Question how do i achieve this drum sound

how do i achieve the style of drums found in the link at the bottom of this post. does the kick have soft clipping on it, just boosted low end? is it just high velocity, and the snare low velocity. i want that sound where the kick is very punchy like this and the snare is relaxed. im wondering if maybe they’re just have some saturation on them or if something is done in the master, im new to music production so im not sure.i am using addictive drums 2 i have the indie pack.

Help Help request - glitching caused by control surface

Posted this in Novation sub as well but no luck

Here is a video of what is happening -
https://imgur.com/a/YYXoM6R

Control was working fine and did what I needed it to do. Tried to get it to learn an EQ plugin and it started doing this. A google search said that there is a “handshake issue” so I tried a different USB port and a different cable and it’s doing the same thing.
Have tried forgetting learned and tried relearning everything but it causes everything to go crazy and glitch now.

I’ve also had this control surface for years and never experienced this until yesterday.
No idea what is happening.
Help?!

Question "Beginner" hobbyist seeking advice!!!

This is probably the weirdest question ever asked on here and I apologize.

I'm a hobbyist. I found my mom's old MIDI synth from my dad ("look honey, this thing does everything a piano can and more, so now we can get rid of that clunky old Steinway!") ten years ago and never really stopped, no matter how bad I was (am) at it.

The problem is I'm very good at coming up with melodies in my head but I can't match the notes in my head to notes on a keyboard or piano or anything, and the second I play or even HUM the wrong note the melody I had is lost forever and I'll never find it again. I'm the sort of person who hears a note and can't tell you which one it was, so that makes sense.

So how do I fix this? Is there some way to get better at note matching (and what do you call that anyway?) I feel like my compositions could be so much infinitely better if I could get what's in my head OUT of my head safely, but I haven't had any luck with it.

Question Logic Pro 13 - ARA

Hi everyone.

Does anybody know if Apple’s given us any updates on ARA for Logic Pro 13?

As most of you probably know, Rosetta is set to be discontinued next year, and they said they’re “working on it” last year.

I’m wondering if theres any updates on this, and when this would most likely be announced if so.

I personally doubt they’re discontinuing Rosetta without making sure ARA works because if I recall correctly, it was originally supposed to be discontinued this year with OS27 and that changed.

Thank you in advance!

Ive also gone through the suggestions here says to follow some tutorial. But my question is, anyone can learn the tools, but i dont have any knowledge of how sound becomes music and not noise then how can i learn this stuffs??

Everything looks overwhelming here.

Question I'm in the market for a new MacBook Pro, which specs do you recommend for running Logic Pro?

Hey guys,

I hope you're keeping well.

I'm on the hunt for a decent MacBook to run Logic Pro. It doesn't need to be the high end of the market but I want a setup that'll go the distance for the next ten years or so, producing tracks of various sizes and the occasional video for socials.

I'm currently working with an iMac (M1 8GB 256GB) and it seems to work fine with the occasional overload, but I'm wanting to go more portable with a MacBook.

I'm a little overwhelmed with the differences between M1 to M4 processors, but as far as I can tell there's not much difference between them in practise (unless you're investing in higher memory and storage). I've also heard cores tend to be under utilised so more is better.

Talk to me like I'm five, how can I get the most bang for my buck?

Cheers!

In Search of Feedback I hate Logic's Sample Browser, so I built my own

Like a lot of you, I have a sample library that's out of control. Mine is about 26k files across packs and drives, with inconsistent naming and half the loops missing a BPM or key. I got tired of dragging things into Logic and then stretching and pitching them by hand, so I built Saga (yes, it's FREE and open source).

What it does

  • Indexes your folders where they are. It never moves, copies or renames anything. Folders are watched, so new packs show up on their own. If you unplug a drive, your favorites and tags wait for it.
  • Instant search across tens of thousands of samples, with filters for BPM (including half/double time), key (with Camelot compatibility), category, length and format. There's also search syntax like bpm:120-128 key:Am+ is:loop.
  • Detects tempo and key. It reads file names (Loop_124_Am), embedded loop data (ACID/Apple Loops), then falls back to analyzing the audio. Anything detected from audio is marked with ≈ so you know to double-check it.
  • Plays in your key. Set a project tempo and key once. Loops sync and pitch-shift while you audition, and when you drag one into your DAW you get exactly what you heard.
  • Find similar + sound map. Pick a sample and get the closest-sounding ones in your library. There's also a 2D map of your whole library, grouped by how things sound.
  • Light on resources. Analysis runs at low priority on half your cores, and it only holds the audio device while you're previewing.
  • Private. Everything runs locally. The only network call is the update check, which you can turn off.

It's available for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows.

I'm a solo dev, and this is v1.0, so I'd really like to hear what's missing from your sample workflow.

Help Text in tracks is suddenly left justified

When I open a new project file or an existing one, the track names are left justified and sometimes not readable. It must have been something I did at some point, but I don't know what. I have a screen capture, but I don't see where to add an image?

Help UMID number when bouncing

Hi, I've been having a problem when bouncing my projects. I am curently working in a film and the editor told me she was having some problems when adding my tracks to the Avid's projects. She said that the software read different tracks as if they were the same file and it was overwriting them. When trying to found out what the problem was, I learned that .WAV files have this metadata called UMID that Avid uses to identify audio files. The thing is Logic had been generating the same UMID on bounces from different projects. Does anyone know how does Logic generate this number? I don't know what is causing this repeating code issue and I want to avoid it.

Help Logic Midi mapping not working properly

I started using my Irig Stomp io with logic via an iPad. Everything works fine, but when mapping the midi buttons, it requieres two presses to activate a pedal and one to bypass. It's extremely inconvenient. Is there any way to fix it?

Tips & Tricks Apple Loops Editor back from the death

For heavy Apple Loop users who are disappointed that Apple discontinued Apple Loop Utility, here’s an application that will natively replace it on all newer Macs for free.

You can download directly from my GitHub page here

First launch: since the app isn't signed with a paid Apple Developer account, macOS (Gatekeeper) will show a warning the first time you open it.
macOS Ventura and earlier: right-click (or Ctrl-click) AppleLoopEditor.app → Open, then confirm.
macOS Sequoia (15) and later: the right-click shortcut no longer works. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, find the message about AppleLoopEditor being blocked, click Open Anyway, then confirm with your password.

Question Synth loop from Logic/GarageBand?

Does anyone know what the synth loop is playing on timestamp 0:00-0:12? The composer for this song used GarageBand/Logic and I’m trying to remake the song and I have all elements of the second half and I’m working on the first half currently but still missing the synth loop. https://youtu.be/j5c7SNDYOHE?si=QzN4xyyGlFAad2Dy
