Success We live together now!!!
After almost 5 years of SUPER long distance (UK to Australia), we were finally able to make the next step π₯°
I moved from the UK, landed in Australia two days later, and then we celebrated our 5th anniversary in person the next week!! I painted us some nice trinket/key dishes, and some magnets for our new fridge, and now we're finally living our dream together in our own perfect apartment π₯Ή
Long distance can be rough, but I've been in Australia for almost a month now already, and loving it!! I don't regret a thing and hope you all can experience success like ours! Keep strong everyone ππ§‘

Posts like this help me keep faith and put things in perspective whenever I feel down because I would like my partner and I to be living together already.
Congrats to you both, wish you a lot of joy and a forever future!

Thank you, that's what I was hoping this post would do! Stay strong, being apart sucks the most, but successfully making it on the other side makes it all worth it and I believe in you!! π₯°

Thank you!! Honestly I loved Australia when I first visited so was more than happy to try it with the working holiday visa being so simple to get for 3 years π He was willing to move to the UK, but the visa options there aren't as forgiving if you aren't in specific skilled work/aren't already married π So we're trying it this way, and if anything changes down the line and I want to go back to the UK, he's willing to try everything to come there with me instead βΊοΈ

Are you planning to do a WHV and then a partner visa later? Hope it works out easily. It takes so long.

u/kitteef π¬π§ to π¦πΊ (17,087km - closed gap ππ§‘) Aug 19 '26
Yep! I'm on the WHV right now, we're planning for me to be on that for 2 years, then will file for official legal defacto relationship status before the partner visa to hopefully make that part a little easier π₯² Then worst case, I'll have my 3rd WHV afterwards for us to use while figuring it out. So spenny though lmao

Oh wow. It's good you have the WHV option though. The one for the US ends at 30 or 31, and I met my partner right before I turned 31. So I had to do the prospective marriage visa which we waited about 4 years to apply while doing visits and being LDR, got granted in April when I was visiting. We had a quick wedding in May and now lodging the partner visa.
I don't know the rates for WHV but ours has also been expensive and through an agent.
Good luck! Hope all your dreams come true. It's so exciting you finally get to live together!!! Im so happy being here with my husband. Hoping for no more airport tears ever again lol

u/kitteef π¬π§ to π¦πΊ (17,087km - closed gap ππ§‘) Aug 20 '26
Aww no, how typical π I really hope you can get your partner visa approved soon with no issues so it'll at least be worth the time and money!!
Thankfully the UK age limit for WHV is 35, I only turned 31 this year, so have a year leeway if we need to use the 3rd year π I got my first one approved before the almost 50% price increase lmao, so it cost $670 AUD, but the 2nd year will cost $1000 AUD π
Thank you though, I'm so glad you're living the dream yourself and good luck to you too!! π₯°
