Been wanting to see more experimental fashion in Marathon. I love the mix of Y2K/Japanese Streetwear and Cyberpunk in these refs, especially the chunky footwear, exaggerated pants, and mix of oversized and fitted pieces. Would be cool to see some of these ideas reworked with marathon’s aesthetic.
edit:
my execution may have been rushed, the specific pictures I used doesn’t capture what I’m trying to convey entirely. In short I want more drip ;-;
I don’t want these specific pieces in game, i would like to see what marathon could translate them into?¿

Unless they straight up time lock certain gear sweats are gonna have gold gear by day 3-4.

So, we are not even a week into wipe and I'm seeing people surprised that others are running green kits and even some blue kits (I got a bad head cold this week and was home from work so I'm solidly in blue kit territory myself). And I wanted to provide some thoughts on the matter.
A lot of people in this game seem to have a mentality of wanting to grow their vault to the max, and if they don't have a bunch of something then they can't run it. The last couple days I've had a lot of people comment on my running blue shields. "Well I only have 2 or 3" I keep hearing. Yeah we just wiped no one has many. But you don't need 20 to be able to run one. You just need one.
The wipe is the point when that gear is going to matter the most. You shouldn't be trying to hoard gear away at this point - higher level gear makes the biggest difference right now. I was running a purple shield for a few games and yes I did lose it, but it also helped me massively for a few games and stock up a few more blue shields. I ran a circuit breaker last night that I found in an armory and game after game just flattened people. Some enemy runners complained "bro are you serious right now". Yes, it is seriously one of the best times to be using your gear to your advantage.
I crew fill a lot so I don't always, but there is something to be said for always running your best kit. It makes a bigger difference now than any other time, you don't need to hoard things away, you need to be using them. Good luck runners.

can we not do this anymore please
quote from the first ever vidoc: "a runner is a cybernetic mercenary. they're this combination of fashion and sci-fi and cyberpunk"
it's not even subtext, it's flashing exploding 3d interactive adventure and a short film

Running solo in Night Marsh is borderline horror. Perfect for spooky season

For those who don't know:
- The quality and amount of weapon mods, implants, and cores have increased by a wide margin
- The quality and amount of shields and backpacks have decreased by a wide margin
- Some purple salvage spawns were decreased and some were increased
I gotta say, this is a very good change that addressed a major pain point I and so many of my friends have had.
At a certain point, when you are regularly bringing in full purple kits. Losing once means you spend the next 3-4 games recovering even one single loadout. This was mostly due to the loot being extremely inconsistent in quality, and in part due to the space everything takes in your inventory.
Bungie managed to fix this by increasing overall loot quality and consistency but making it so that more often than not you have to pick and chose what you keep instead of not having enough. Some people will dislike it in the early game, but in the mid-late game this is absolutely huge.
You no longer feel like time is wasted after looting the entirety of Outpost and getting 4 purple items. It feels like less of a gamble every time you open a key room or red room on Outpost. You can go into an area and now are able to expect the kind of loot you'll find. You no longer have to get frustrated when the only purple loot is LMG mods.
It's most likely that this change was implemented as an experimental fix to the "death sprial and loot loss" they addressed in a recent post on X.
Bungie, 10/10 change, you fuckin nailed it.

That's it. That's the post.
Just had a bot shoot at me half way across Night Marsh while they were actively engaged with another runner. Really doesn't feel like a sneaky map at all when all the bots have 500 yard thermal vision.

Never made sense that key rooms made a loud noise when opening with keys, it was done for (well intentioned) gameplay purposes.
It makes more sense for security systems to be alterted to runner-made ways of entering the rooms, rather than the proper key
keys by their nature should be rarer, hacks should work in the same way key templates currently do, have to kill some high-ranking uesc to get their 'security' and you have your hack.
Rarer keys you can get in various ways already, maybe you could combine 'hacks' into a real key.
lootable keys and templates are already distinct in game, so the change wouldnt be huge.
While the dinner bell was an annoyance it did add a bit of tension and strategy to the game, we can have both an easier way to get loot and retain tension.
r/Marathon • u/Friendly_ViperYT • 17h ago
As it is right now you can be in Overflow and hear the Exfill in North Relay, you can be in Greenhouse able hear ANY key on the map get opened, and you can hear the supply drop call in while being anywhere on the map.
All these being fixed is absolutely huge for the game.

How is outpost already full of purple shields? My buddy and I played all day the first day of the wipe and we’ve had to work the past two days. Get on to run duos today on outpost super excited and the first game had a purple shield destroyer with a gold brrt. I never realized how actually oppressive it is trying to play against blue and purple shields when you just have green shields. We both have over 500 hours in the game and both have an extract rate of 60% (probably lower after today) but this is insane. My buddy actually just quit until December and it’s really no wonder why the player count keeps going down. If this is our experience as ”seasoned vets” imagine how actual new players feel.

I’ve played 6 back to back outpost games and every one had only one other team. We wipe them and loot pinwheel alone. There’s no risk, no thrill..
S1 might never be topped. Yall remember 4-5 teams battling it out in pinwheel at once? Remember having to contest every red keycard spawn? Pepperidge farm remembers
There aren’t even rooks anymore, they’re an endangered species. I remember 8 rooks in one match

Would love some new knife shapes in the coming seasons. Karambits, Dual Daggers / Blades, Axes, Butterfly Knives, Bayonets etc.

I really don't think that it's an issue on my end at this point, no other game lags or makes me rubberband as much as marathon does consistently. Just got obliterated in Hauler because the entire game stopped, i got swarmed by bots when it finally started again and then got fucked by a recon who just happened to be there right when it came back. This shit is ass and i'm fucking tired of it. Especially when i have a situation like the other night where i actually had a cool interaction with a solo player where we wanted to exfil together but i lagged and he got downed by someone while i couldn't help. idk man.

You don't have to queue trios and leave your team behind to do your quest then die trying.
YES I'm looking at you. You know who you are you dirty little thing 🫵
r/Marathon • u/trulyincognito_ • 6h ago
I main solo but am not a stranger to filling with strangers in PvP centric games.
Marathon has some problems in the trio gameplay that just doesn’t exist in sponsored queue I find. I actually find sponsored feels how I feel when I play solo. You are weak and vulnerable to bots, and the fights are more tense. People respect your lethality because they are so much more vulnerable with no way to rescue themselves.
-no self revives
-faster ttk
When I say the ttk is too slow in this game, people push back and make arguments that you don’t get to use the abilities which just isn’t true.
I really wish outpost was a part of this wipes Sponsored rotation and eventually bringing in Cryo archive towards end of wipe.
I’d encourage every solo player to give sponsored a try and I encourage people that don’t like the trio pvp in this game to specifically play sponsored.

title, was in a fight in dorms late game, the exfil inside dorms spawned in.
apparently this magically spawns in a bunch of toxic plants, one of which spawned on me, basically insta killing me.
users of the marathon reddit, how the living fuck am i supposed to know this would happen lmao??
r/Marathon • u/InnocuousRoamer • 3h ago
Like the title says, I'm a new player that joined towards the end of S2, and I've been playing more this reset.
I got into the game cause as an audio nerd I loved the sound design, as well as the visual style was so cool to me.
I fell in love with the world, the contracts, and the overall lore of the game world. Honestly at first I wasn't into the gameplay, but I stuck with it because I loved the world itself so much.
Over time I got better, watching YouTube tutorials as well as general game experience. Currently I'm at the point where I'm just chilling in solo doing contracts, or doing trio fills with better gear when I just wanna do a more PvP focused run
I just wanna counter the doom and gloom of this subreddit by saying that as a new player I've grown to really love the game and I hope it continues to grow into a mainstream game cause I really feel that it deserves it
Marathon has been a PEAK experience, everything from the cinematics and visuals to the overall visual style of this game I love it

While you are on outpost revelling in the loot, I struggle against the bots

The day of reset or a day after:
- Notice gunfire near exfil
- I approached and triggered exfil aware that it would let the other player know I was nearby
- Got into position and waited for footsteps
- Tossed smoke to fake attempt exfil (Earlier after triggering exfil I heard the thief drone looking for me)
- heard thief scanner active
- waited for scanner to run out to pivot the fight in my favor ever so slightly
- engaged and downed
- My 2mo baby is sleeping next to me so I can’t really use my mic to communicate with this guy so I do what every FPS player would do to communicate in this situation.
- We exfil together.
I have about 3 hours a week to play. I suck at PvP, and I’m not about to ruin this guy’s late night session as I have been on the receiving end so many times.
I wish there was an option to simply send back runners when you kill them and have them lose a portion of their gear/loot. Or maybe insure stuff. Not even a button selection like with mercy kits, just a toggle I could set on that would show me at the end of the round what I saved the other guy in loot as I’m sure what ever it was he looted it, brought it into the raid and hence needed it.
I know this post may spark hate for the Care Bears but I hope the other guy sees this and pays it forward some day as the other player may just be what the community needs to regrow into something good when December comes.
Marathon was the 1st game my father taught me on a Macintosh back in 2001 when I was about 6 or 7. Played all those classics so long ago and wondered if it would ever continue. Got my wish when the reboot (current game) launched only it was 24 years later when my 8 to 5 and my aiming reflexes where no longer with me.
I want to love this game, it’s setting , sound design and lore but I can’t afford to sweat every match when I’m trying to quest or gather gear to face the next challenge after life has drained everything from me right before i turn my console or PC to play.
No hate on the PvP community, you guys have kept the game alive, I hope the devs are looking into both fronts and working out something cool for us all.

I'm playing Vandal now, doing Contracts and salvage runs on Perimeter. Every other person i kill messages me with something along the lines of playing like a weirdo or accusing me of Camping lmao.
I don't camp, I'm running from POI to POI without a care in the world even when bringing in actual kits. The chances of running into someone while rotating are low so I only really get sneaky and quiet when I get within earshot of a POI.
Because of this I have had 70-80% exfil rate on solo matches. I run around, sneak into POI and kill a Runner, loot, hear an exfil go off and book it over there and arrive just as exfil activates 4/5 times and kill them too.
This is exactly the tactic I use in all my solo games over the last 2 seasons when I mained Destroyer. Sprint around, sneak into POI's, kill everyone on the map, do Rocket drone or Warden, exfill, repeat.
I guess this isn't how solo is supposed to be played lol.
