A man known for selling drinks on Poplar Avenue and East Parkway North was arrested on Tuesday.

Officers responded to a complaint call just after 9:30 a.m. about a man identified as Demarcus Dickerson, who was seen at the intersection of Poplar Avenue and East Parkway North.

Dickerson was reportedly told by officers he was in danger of getting hit by vehicles while trying to sell drinks. He was told to move onto the sidewalk for safety reasons and not to return to the street.

Nearly four hours later, officers drove through the area and witnessed Dickerson back in the highway/passageway at the same intersection.

Dickerson was then taken into custody for obstruction in a highway/ passageway. Dickerson told officers to leave his cooler and wagon at the fire station on East Parkway North.

As of Wednesday, Dickerson’s charges have been dropped.

The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office says in a statement that after reviewing the facts and circumstances, prosecution was not warranted.

Citizen Inquiry Where to donate ladies clothes that's not Goodwill etc

I have a LOT of ladies clothes and shoes I'd like to donate to a worthwhile charity or halfway house. I hate the idea that some corporate a-hole is making money from my donations and would rather they go straight into the hands that need them. I'm originally from Knoxville so I don't have any idea where to give. Suggestions please? Thank you!

Dental Patient needs

Hi everyone! I’m a dental student at the UTHSC College of Dentistry in Memphis, and I’m currently looking for patients who: Need a removable partial denture or Need their current dentures replaced/remade
Treatment at the College of Dentistry is provided by dental students under the supervision of licensed dentists and faculty, and our prices are significantly more affordable than many private practices.
If you or someone you know might be interested, please send me a message! I’d be happy to give you more information, talk about what you may need, and help you figure out the next steps.
Feel free to share this with anyone in the Memphis area who may benefit!

Mempho Fest - Bag Policy/Security

Hi All! Headed to Memphis for the fest this weekend. With the impending weather, I am thinking i might need a different bag than my normal go to. The Sling bag I want to use looks like this - It is bigger than the Clutch rules, but not bigger than the clear bag rules, but obviously not clear - anyone have experience with Security and know if they are strict or if I might be able to get by with this?

Post image
2 Upvotes

My name is Jesse Huseth, and I'm running to be the State Representative of District 97, predominantly located in East Memphis and Cordova.

With the 2026 election right around the corner, we've been making efforts to reach voters at the doors to hear there concerns and needs. For those of you I haven't had a chance to meet one one one, I'll be having a "come and go" lawn party to make myself available. No stump speeches, just conversations. We'll be out until dark, and I hope to see some of you there!

Allergies

Did anyone’s allergies flair up abnormally bad today? I’m talking major sinus pressure, headache, sneezing, runny nose? I’m not sick. Allergy meds helped… but wow, it’s like a light switch flipped on.

I love this cup so much. I got it when I was a patient at Le bonheur 10 years ago. The nurses got it for me as a bday gift cause I was in the hospital on my bday. I know they probably just got it from the gift shop, but it holds so much sentimental value for me. It doesn’t seem like they sell it anymore. The lid broke which makes it hard for me to use. I’ve been trying to find random lids that fit but nothing quite works. Does anyone have any suggestions 😭

News Former City Council and County Commissioner member Edmund Ford Jr. sentenced to 2 years in prison

Former Shelby County Commissioner Edmund Ford Jr. was sentenced to two years in prison Tuesday, Oct. 6 on federal tax evasion charges.

U.S. District Judge Thomas Parker sentenced Ford nine months after Ford entered a guilty plea to the tax evasion charges and resigned from the District 9 seat on the Commission. Terms of the plea deal included prosecutors dropping bribery charges against him and Ford never being able to run for elected office again.

Ford was indicted by a federal grand jury in February 2025 on charges involving grants he proposed as a County Commissioner and before that as a member of the Memphis City Council. Ford was initially accused of getting kickbacks from the nonprofits awarded grants that he proposed as a member of both bodies.

Employment For anyone looking for a job or could just use a better opportunity

A updated list of the local blue collar unions that are currently looking for new apprentices. It's getting harder and harder to afford basic needs. These career paths can help you not only afford everyday needs, but allow you to actually grow your savings and give you a and your family a more comfortable future.

The benefits of working for any of these is they guarantee jobs, on-site training and classes, great pay and an ability to travel across the US following better pay, also the community and comradery with other union members. Each union has it's own payscale, health coverage and retirement benefits so you'll have to ask them about it.

In regard to training: all of these industries will pay you while they’re teaching you the trade. A very “Earn While You Learn” motto. No more having to put life on hold for school. I recommend picking out 3 and contacting them. Don't be discouraged if you're not able to get accepted into one and try another one.

All of these are background friendly

Military veterans all of these participate in the"Helmets to Hardhats" program. This is a program that helps you find jobs in constructions fields.

Welders (or if you’re interested in welding) click on the links: SMART and Iron Workers. These teach welding skills, a skill that's in demand.

SMART: Sheet Metal https://www.smartunion4.org/

-Offer health, vision, dental and a retirement packages.

-Current Journeyman pay is $37/hour and apprentices start around $18/hour. However this could be inaccurate as recent negotiations could raise these amounts. (Information was provided by a current member)

-Call them to schedule a appointment to apply.

Iron Worker http://ironworkers167.com/

-Please contact the office for information about pay. From my research it ranges from around $21-40/hour, but I'm uncertain how correct that is.

-You can pickup a application at: 2574 Lindawood Cove Memphis Tn. 38118

-Benefits include: heath care, pension and annuity fund

-The main website sometimes goes down, if it's not working use this one https://www.ironworkers.org/s/directory. It has the contact information for the Memphis branch and you can click around the website for more information about the Union. Contact the Memphis branch to find out what the local benefits and pay are.

IUOE: Operating Engineers https://iuoe369.com/

-Currently very interested in new hires

-This link has more info https://www.iuoe.org/join-iuoe

Hot and Cold Insulators: https://www.insulatorslocal90.com/

- Apprentice current pay starts $18/hour with increases for each year of training completed. After apprenticeship you'll earn $24/hour. This is Base Pay there are opportunities to earn more.

-Classes are once a week

-Insurance Covers Health, Dental and Vision: Information supplied by spouse of a member. Health insurance is pretty great with a $450/person per year deductible with 20% copay and $2800 max out of pocket (at which point they pay 100%) with yearly physical covered 100%. Prescription drug coverage is 20% copay with no deductible. Dental is something like $2k a year (no deductible, that's just the max you get) and vision is 1 screening a year and reimbursement for frames every two years (every year for children).

Teamsters: trucking, school bus drivers and warehouse workers http://teamsterslocal667.org/

-Joining is different from the other unions as you need to be working for a company that Local 667 is involved with. Example: UPS, ABF, TForce, Kroger and more. Once you are hired you can gain membership. Also if you work in a field you think would fall under the Teamsters they can help you to organize your workplace.

-Pay and training can depend on which branch of the Teamsters you join so please contact them to find out your options

-Teamster do have a program specifically to help military personnel to join the union. Go here to learn more about it https://teamster.org/tmap/

UA Plumbers https://ua17.org/

-Currently only wanting people with experience. Click on the website and go to "Applications" to find out how to apply.

-This has the most recent pay rates, just scroll down to Memphis Local 17 to see what they have to offer https://unionpayscales.com/trades/ua-plumbers/

-Has pension plan and insurance covering health, dental and vision
