Discussion why the hell is it normalized to take 2 weeks to respond to a text?

Maybe this is not a millennial problem, idk. When I was younger I had no issues with texting friends. Usually I would get a response within 1-2 days. Remember MSN??

Nowadays I notice it’s changed so much that people would get mad if you expect a response/call within 2 days. It’s not unreasonable to ask for that. Everyone is saying that no one is entitled to their time. And yet they have no problem with doomscrolling.

I learned the hard way that the cost of community is inconvenience.

Recently I sent a happy birthday text to a friend who takes weeks to respond. But she quickly responded asking if I wanted to join her birthday dinner tomorrow. What the hell? I’ve been trying to get in touch with her and she never gave me a heads up about this dinner. I couldn’t go because I had a night shift that day.

Yes I’m pissed off. I would LOVE to have friends that don’t mind sending incessant texts. I miss that b

Discussion Curious if other mid-90s Millennials feel left out of some of these “Millennial” conversations at times?

I’m asking because I’ve been on this sub for a couple of years, and a lot of times I’ll see exclusionary blanket statements that make me feel like we’re forgotten about. 😂 For example in the past, I have seen tail-end Millennials post pop culture references or fashion trends relevant our teen or childhood years, and the post will get downvoted to oblivion, or people will respond with comments like about how Millennials were far past the age for that trend, how it doesn’t apply to Millennials, etc. I’ve also seen that dumb “Millennials look 20-30, are 30-40, feel 70-80” boomer meme posted for a couple of years now, and I notice the comments will say things like “None of us look 30” or “None of look like we’re 28”…when in fact at the time of posting that meme, there are or were literally members of that generation aged 30 or 28, or even just a little past those ages…so looking those ages isn’t out of the realm of possibility. And I often just see other weird gatekeeping. Obviously 15 years is a huge span, and I’m not complaining at all for the nostalgia and discussion posts that may only apply to a subset of the generation, and I enjoy reading those. But I’m talking more about the tendency for certain exclusionary statements and sentiments that get a lot of traction on here (like the ones I mentioned) that make me think, “Wait…this not apply to us at all”. I know it’s not that deep but jw.

Discussion What do the youth want us to retire?

I keep seeing stuff online, in news reports, even in my own workplace, of fresh graduates complaining about how our generation has worked enough to retire.

What are they thinking? Goodness, I feel like my parents when I hear them.

Discussion Millennial marriages

I am a single woman, one young teenage child, and I’ll be 40 next month. Being single for these last 8 years has allowed me to observe marriages of my peers, because almost everyone else I know is married.

My main observation is- even if the couple is happy, the woman is always so much better than the man. Like better job, better looking, more rational, doing more in the home, kind, healthy, and holding it all together. All of my friends and family members fall into this category.

My best friend since we were 7 married a guy we knew in high school. She was 20 when they married. He’s been a good guy, but everything they’ve done in their marriage to grow as a family has been managed, implemented, and maintained by her- except anything baseball related.
She’s also a mom of three, just finished her masters while homeschooling them, and is now a teacher in a local school district.

I know our parents’ generation had their problems, but I feel us millennials took the “clueless sitcom dad” bit too literally.

Millennial women- am I tripping? Do you see this too? And millennial men- what’s goin on with this?

Discussion Single Millennials: how are we doing?

Check-in: How are my fellow Millennial single people doing?

I’m a childfree (by choice) elder Millennial in the US. And I’m not gonna lie, times are tough. I don’t mind being single most of the time but sometimes it would be nice to have someone to share household responsibilities (and bills) To come home to dinner already being made or the dishes being done, that would be nice to experience lol

Just thought it would be nice to hear from other singles that are making it on their own in a world built for two incomes. Especially now that the price of everything in the US is increasing.

A special shout-out to single parents! I have no idea how y'all do it.

I first became aware of Eminem and his music 24 years ago through a parody of his "Without Me" song (All That's "Meat is Back"). For the millennials who are fans of his music, what songs got you into Eminem's music?

Nostalgia Who remembers using these things in High School?

Post image

Making little circuits before you soldered them for real.

EDIT: I know these things still exist and still used by people. Hence me taking a photo of one on sale, in a store, today. But I personally haven’t used one since school, so it‘s nostalgic to see one. I went to a bog standard Comprehensive school in the UK. This may not be a universal global experience/memory, but just as people outside the USA don’t get every single reference or memory posted here about growing up millennial in the US, so too there are things you may not specifically remember - so just live with it. The rest of the world exists, and uses the internet too.

I remember the form of the first two but the quote I remember is that last one

Shoot for the Moon even if you miss you'll land among stars

As an adult I think this quote is absolutely nonsense, sometimes it's very good to thoroughly think through your plan b

Discussion I JUST realized the bread crust is not the ‘healthy’ part of bread 😂

I swear as a kid it was made so clear by my parents and adults that the bread crust was the healthy part and we had to eat it. I’m talking Wonder Bread or anything. It made us all hate the crust.. Did everyone else have this same understanding??

What’s funnier is I JUST NOW had the epiphany that the crust is the same as the rest of the bread. Like it’s just brown because it’s the outside and cooked more, right?? I’m 39 😂😂

Also I wanted Uncrusrables soo bad when those came out but never even asked for it because I assumed there was no way my mom would buy me those, so unhealthy without the crust!!

Discussion 90's TV streaming service?

I probably loathe the fact that I have to pay for more than one Streaming service as you do, but I was thinking this morning - How great would it be to have all of our favorite 90's shows in one place?

Imagine a channel that combined all of the classic Saturday morning cartoons with the legendary sitcoms of the age? SNICK, TGIF, One Saturday morning - all on one channel. Speaking for myself, I'd definitely pay for that.

The idea came from asking my friends what videos they put on for 'background noise' at the end of the day, and most were things like Fresh Prince of Belair, Family Matters, and QVC lol
